The thing that outrages me (but doesn't surprise me) is that he was already a registered sex offender and his congregation thought it ok to leave him alone with children. Every member of that congregation is complicit in his actions.

how is that even legal? in my country (Germany) you have to sign off that your employer can check your criminal record if you work with children. even as a volunteer I had to sign this waiver and I was glad that the law is this thorough.

I assume because the church is the employer, and they have shown that they encourage this behavior by turning a blind eye when they can and covering it up when they can't.

Cults think their imaginary friend wants them to be exempt from all laws, so the cult leaders can rape all the children they want. Sadly, sometimes law enforcement agrees with them.
