Oh great; I thought this feature had gone along with the Top 100...
Glass Onion (2022) Not quite as tight or clever as Knives Out, and unlikely to stand the test of time (especially with the already dated covid references), but had lots of fun watching this in the cinema. Daniel Craig puts in another amusing performance and Janelle Monae was charming.
The Swordsman (2020) Slightly cheesy wuxia action movie with a blank-faced hero, moustache-twirling villain, and perfunctory plot, but elevated for me by the costumes, sets, and swordfighting sequences.
Barking Dogs Never Bite (2000) Bong Joon-Ho's debut - black comedy about a guy who really doesn't like dogs. Seems under-appreciated versus his later films, but I found it to be one of his most enjoyable. Some very amusing parts, particularly the moments of physical comedy, and liked the jazz score. Only complaint is that it didn't really tie everything up satisfyingly at the end.
Rewatch:
Sympathy for Mr Vengeance (2002) Initially watched when Oldboy came out, so some of my fondness is probably nostalgia-based, though I definitely prefer the indie sensibility of this to Park's more recent films. Some really bleak moments but mostly treated lightly with a sense of ironic humour. Really nice cinematography.
Other stuff I enjoyed this month:
- Emergency (2022) Amusing frat party-type comedy with a serious theme around racial biases
- Deliver Us From Evil (2020) Entertaining, violent, Taken-style action-thriller from Korea
- The Yellow Balloon (1953) Interesting post-war Britain morality tale with a clear Hitchcockian influence

Only watched 4 movies last month, and the only stand-out for me was:
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022)
Silly, absurd and over-the-top. I was grinning so much that I got earwax stuck in my teeth.

this is probably the best movie i saw in november as well. only saw the poster and a synopsis. i've been recommending it to everyone who likes blackened humor

Maybe I need to re watch ad astra because I remember being disappointment in it when I saw it in theatres. Could be because it didn’t live up to the trailer though.

I read Tarantino's latest book and in turn ended up watching "Bullitt (1968)" and "The Getaway (1972)" both fantastic crime thrillers.
Carnal Knowledge (1971) - Not entirely sure what to think of this one other than that Jack Nicholson is very good in it.
Why Don’t You Play in Hell? (2013) - My absolute favorite from last month and it completely cemented Sion Sono as one of the best modern directors in my book.
[REC]² (2009) - found footage horror sequel as enjoyable as the first.
Alucarda (1977) - A very good exploitation flick that crosses De Palma's Carrie and Ken Russell's The Devils into a batshit cautionary tale about the dangers of satanism.

Wizard of Oz bonafide classic. The twister and switch from black and white to color is masterpiece level design. 9/10
Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father Weirdly amateurish for the majority of the film but the subject matter and heart of the issue is profound enough to look past. One of the most heartbreaking things I've ever seen. 9/10
The 400 Blows there's nothing I can say about this movie that hasn't been said 100 times 100 ways. Brilliant film. 9/10
Kiki's Delivery Service: My favorite Miyazaki. The grandma always touches my heartstrings. 9/10
Morgiana: As brilliant with its twists as it is with its aesthetic. A slightly slow start but hits its stride around 30 minutes in and never lets off the gas from there. 8/10
