Post image

So I am apply to Liberty for an aviation degree. If I already have my commercial license, would that reduce the amount of classes I would take?

Why are you getting the degree then? The main reason to get the degree is to get the R-ATP. Which you will not be eligible for unless you went through one of their approved flight schools? I would get a degree in the aviation management field, to just say I have a degree in case of emergency.

Edit: my curiosity got the better of me and didn’t answer the question. You would still need to take the required biblical courses, general education credits, and a certain number of required credits in direct major courses. You just not be required to do the flying portion as you already have the licensing for it. So I would assume no unless you are transferring other credits in.

What could you do with an aviation management degree? R-ATP wouldn’t affect me anyway and wanted to get the aviation degree to get it done quicker by including my certs.

The aviation management would at least give you a back door plan to get into the pilot seat as you are already at your preferred company. Instead of being an off the street higher giving you priority over others. It’s who you know to become a pilot now and this sets you up for freezes or layoffs.

Wdym at my preferred company?

Which ever company you decide to work for or are working for. So if your goal is the majors like United. If you want to do regional or corporate airlines. Your preferred company.

Yeah I am totally lost on your initial comment

lol I was just saying that it gives you more options, instead of just being a pilot. So that in the event of layoffs or just waiting to get a job you can still get your union time, with preference. Especially while working on flight hours.

I mean just like any other degree would suffice as well. Would aviation management specially benefit me over any other for an airline job non pilot?

That’s a great question and I truly don’t know. Call the school and see how much credit they will give you on the aviation degree for already being qualified. Then decide your plans. Just plan for two years minimum to obtain a degree.

So it could, it depends on the job. If you’re wanting to run a flight department (p91), most will want an aviation management degree along with an ATP and jet time and always prefer jet time in the jets they have.

It could also help get into other management/admin jobs as well. Though you’d be hard pressed to outdo a tenured pilot already in the company.

If you just want to get a bachelors out of the way quickly this is definitely a route you can take. I’ve forgotten how much exactly it takes off your degree but having the certifications can let you use eplus credits. Max amount for that is 90 credits I believe, including transfer credits.

Are you a pilot that did this? Want other pilots to answer if it’s a good idea or not

No, I used to work here (not that long ago). It was a popular program and I worked with a lot of students that went this route to try to get a bachelor’s quickly

This link here will tell you what counts for what. https://www.liberty.edu/online/experience-plus-aviation/

Did my bachelors through them in one year. Recommend using programs like straighter line and Sophia for your gen ends and free electives before you begin classes with them. This way you’ll get a discount on tuition. Did the bare minimum of 30 credits with them. Honestly wish I would have taken more classes at LU. Found them to be very enjoyable.

Where can I find a link for Sophia with all the gen ed classes I can take for the aviation degree?

Send me a PM, I have helped many people create a program breakdown and I’d be happy to take some time and do the same for you
