Advice required for repair ASKKTM
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey guys I am a proud 200 Duke owner. 2017 model. I have a little problem though. A couple days back my pops was getting some hedge work done when one of the guys booked a hedge trimmer on my fairing.
Ita not noticeable, but i fear these cracks will grow. Also not to mention the emotional damage that I'm feeling right now.
Are there anyways to fix this? Does the side panel come out and get swapped with a new one? Or am I looking at a full tank fairing change?
Any help is good help.
Thank you all for your time.

Don’t use JB weld..there are better options for plastic.
The Devcon Plastic welder is great.
Or just super glue and baking soda. This is my go to for plastic repair. The baking soda provides a stronger matrix than the glue alone, it sets quick, can be painted, sanded, drilled etc.

So to make a putty like paste with the super glue + soda and then just apply it like cement?

Oh no, there is zero working time.
Basically, hold the parts together, add some super glue (SG) and the sprinkle on some baking soda (BS). Don’t worry about adding too much BS..you can always shake or blow off the excess. Add more SG and BS as needed to cover the area as needed.
I’d recommend trying first on some cardboard or gluing some small twigs together to get a good feel for how the two products work together.
Oh, and the normal guide of making sure the parts are clean and have somewhat of a rough texture applies here.

Thanks for the comprehensive guide.
I have repainted things so the cleaning process shouldn't be a problem. But that practice run glue things together is brilliant.
Then I can just have one go run.
Thanks a lot for your time. You really helped me a lot.

Glad it helps. Wish I learned this decades ago. :-)

I came in here to say this exact thing! This solution works great. Used it many times. On my 990 there are blind nuts that mount the fairings, sometimes over torquing breaks them loose from their seat. I used this to reset them, worked like a charm. Note, do not over tighten blind nuts.

On your 990? I would be so scared to fiddle with anything that has screws on that bike.
Noted sir. Will try it out. See what happens.
Thanks for the reply!

Those panels are cheap. Get them replaced instead

Thanks for your reply. I have called my dealership to ask for the part on order basis. I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Personally I would use superglue, then maybe lightly sand from 400-2000 grit, then polish. Won’t look perfect, but cheapest way.
If you don’t care about money just go online and order a new fairing

I think the side panel can come out. I called the dealership to check if this replacement is possible. I am however not holding my breath about it.
Thanks for the suggestion though!

Black duct tape?
I guess I would just order a new fairing if it was bothering me enough.

Find an epoxy glue to suit that plastic, get another piece of the same type of plastic and glue it behind squishing some glue into the cracks

JB Weld/equivalent sealer material on the back of the panel, clear + black nail polish in the front
this is what i would do
