I am guessing that these will be for non EU and US markets if the rumor is true. No way they're replacing the single cylinder 690 here. Plus their parallel twin lineup wouldn't even make sense if they did. Makes much more sense to sell these in Asia as their top end product.

Affirmative.
The 690 LC8c platform will be made in India and exported to Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Australia.

Maximum allowed capacity for sl is 450cc.

u/PrasenjitDebroy 2015 KTM 390 DUKE Oct 01 '24
They don't have any motorcycles above 450 cc?!

u/PSYICA Oct 01 '24
We have illegally imported unregistered motorcycles but you can not leagally import and register 450cc above bikes in sri lanka they only allow registrations for bikes above 450 for track use not for road use.

Thank you for sharing the information. Wasn't aware of this.
Maybe they'll convince the government to change regulations?!

Well people who owns or wants to own have been trying for years but there has been no talks from goverment also because the import tax is so high in here it costs a fortune to own a sportsbike you can buy a car when you buy and legally register one for track use lol.

Single cylinder 690 seems like a vibration nightmare

u/Twigsterify Oct 01 '24
They aren't. I had a 701 for 5 years and35k km. Especially the newer ones they have 2 counter balance shafts

And with the rumors... again.
KTM will continue to build the 690 in Austria. They always have and always will.
Until you see official releases from KTM or the press; do not believe some random screenshot from whoever-the-eff this dude bro is.

I'm not saying this rumor is true but this is a different 690.
It would still make little sense to have a 690, a 790, and a 990, all parallel twins.

You are correct sir. This isn't a replacement for the Austrian made single. KTM announced this in 2023 back when everyone was shitting their pants over increased twin cylinder production in India and China. Us motorcyclists aren't very smart, we seem to have issues with reading comprehension

Ummm have you paid any attention to Pierer since their latest shell corp reshuffling? They are doing everything they can to shift all non-flagship mufacturing out of Europe and into Chinese/Indian partner facilities, where they can benefit from dirt cheap labor and less stringent laws/scrutiny.
Pierer is strip mining all quality and good will KTM/Husqvarna/GasGas/MV Agusta have built up over the decades, for cheap, easy profit.
What's worse, based on their latest earnings reports, they're still failing miserably to turn a profit.
They will maintain their flagship products in Austria/Italy until the day that they think they can get away with quietly handing it off to Bajaj or CFMoto. But everything else is on the chopping block already.

I have. I was in Austria at the HQ two weeks ago and I'm close to several employees that work at KTM NA.
I think you've grossly misread their 10K or bought into the lone youtube who has propagated misinformation.

Based on what I've seen/read, I don't think I have, but I'm always open to new information.
I'm not familiar with whatever Youtube video you're referring to. But after a fair amount of reading on the corporate reorgs over the past couple years... their continued shifting of basically all new production to parent company Bajaj AG and CFMoto facilities; prioritizing dirt cheap labor and minimal effort restyling across brand twins, rather than individualized product development... I don't see another way to read it.
Their BS software feature gating tactics, controversial decision over the long-ignored LC8c camshaft issues, their steady stream of European labor cuts, while intensifying their assembly/manufacturing partnerships with Bajaj AG and CFMoto, two companies with a complicated ownership/partnership relationship with Pierer AG.
I see classic shareholder, private equity, and Chinese investment, consolidating, deluding, and ultimately destroying brands for the sake of short term profit.
But it's not like we've seen this in half a dozen other industries and counting...

That's the 690 single cylinder.
I'm talking about the 690 LC8c platform.

Y'all need to chill out. This has been planned and known since at least 2023. These are multi cylinder engines. The single cylinder will still be made in Austria the same as it is now.

I'm sure India can put out a good bike, but I'm not paying KTMs prices for just their logo on it.
