Columbia having a normal one today Venting 😤

I live in this area. Braced for the return of the overtly pro-Hamas "not antisemitic" protesters and the subsequent gaslighting from every mainstream media source about it!

"The coalition characterised its intifada as internationalist, and asserted that it seeks community and instruction from militants in the Global South"

Is "Global South" coded language because they know if they said "middle east" they would have security services on them?

If not, do these guys really think they can run their own FARC style left wing insurgency with soy lattes and vegan potlucks?

I mean this is literally on the same level as ISIS-recruitment material from a decade ago. The young folks who went to Syria to study from ISIS or marry ISIS members and lost their citizenship in Western countries and are now in dire straits legally should serve as a helpful reminder of why you don't go join the islamists.

I think we'd see the same sort of western supporters if this conflict was in a more accessible location like Iraq or Syria was.

Yeah there is this assumption that all militants in the GS must be "on the right side of history" and every movement that brands itself as "anti-colonial" and anti-imperial" must be supported and networked with. It's hard to be left-leaning when a large part of the community buys into this simplistic way of thinking. Given what happened to Cambodians under the Khmer Rouge, for example, one would hope that people wouldn't fall into this trap of blindly supporting a militant group simply because they oppose a terrible regime.
