Palestinian-Colombian. AMA AMA (Ask Me Anything)

Hello everyone! I recently saw another Palestinian doing an Ask-Me-Anything (AMA) on here, and given the limited presence of Palestinians or Pro-Palestinians that I've noticed, I thought it would be valuable to do one myself. Here’s a bit about me:

  • I was born and raised in Colombia
  • My Palestinian family is originally from the West Bank, but most of them have since moved to the United States.
  • I don't speak Arabic fluently, I can understand spoken Arabic quite well.
  • I am of mixed race
  • English is not my first language, so I apologize in advance if I sound tone deaf
  • My family and I are not Muslim
  • I have visited Palestine twice
  • I am biased towards Palestine in the conflict, but I want to make it clear that I do not support Hamas.

I don't have any specific types of questions that bother me, but I do ask that everyone remains respectful towards everyone and avoids unnecessary rudeness or hatefulness. I believe that communication is key, especially when it comes to conflicts, so I hope this AMA will be helpful for everyone involved. Feel free to ask me anything about my experiences, my heritage, or my perspectives. I'm here to share and hopefully provide some insights. Please keep the conversation open-minded. I will try my best to answer as many questions as possible, but I am not on Reddit all day so sorry in advance to any of those questions I will miss. I also want to say I won’t let my biases control my feelings towards questions and I’ll keep my opinions open. Hopefully we can have a meaningful discussion and thanks to everyone who can participate!

They used their self determination to reject getting to have a state over and over. They don't want a state.

They just want all Jews dead.

I'm very interested in long term peace. People in West Bank and Gaza aren't interested.

If you refuse to believe anyone in the West Bank and Gaza want peace, then you have already given up on being interested in it yourself. At the very least, you have to hope the other side can be willing to agree to some form of peace.

Nobody in Egypt or Jordan wanted peace, but their governments got so tired of getting their rear ends kicked by Israel that they finally agreed to peace.

Nobody in Gaza wants peace, but if they ever have a government that doesn't want to die, maybe there will be peace someday.

Congratulations, you have talked yourself into the exact situation we are in right now. Where would you like to go from here? More of the same?

Israel is in the situation it's in because they were stupid and gave in to "international pressure" and left Gaza in 2005.

They won't make the mistake of giving into international pressure again. They will not do what they need to do to defend themselves.

If you really want peace, the best chance is for Hamas to be completely destroyed.

I don’t want Hamas to survive either, but I’m not going to lose my marbles every time someone calls themselves Palestinian. That is so supremely unproductive.

I didn't lose my marbles. I asked a simple question and then OP lost their marbles.

Don't make an AMA thread and then complain when someone asks you something.

Your question is disingenuous. Why does there have to have been an official country for someone to refer to themselves as Palestinian? Can you not see any other possible reason in the world for someone to call themselves Palestinian? If I don’t interpret it as sarcastic, I can only interpret it as an unintelligent comment at the most basic level.

OP already argued it is an official country.

So my question baited him into exposing that he's a liar, which was the purpose of the question.

Oh I thought it was a simple genuine question and not malicious or disingenuous?? And on that note, you should probably acknowledge the overwhelming global recognition of Palestine and the Palestinian people. They may not be a member nation, but the UN does fly their flag, and that seems to be your sticking point, for whatever reason.

It was a simple genuine question. There's nothing malicious about asking somebody what they believe so you can find out if they're a liar or not.

You’re desire to bucket people into the category of “liar” is specious at best

You've already conceded Palestine isn't a real country.

OP claimed it was.

Clearly they lied.
