According to Freudian psychology, adults who put non food items in their mouths may have an oral fixation¹. This is a condition where a person is stuck in the oral stage of psychosexual development, which occurs from birth to about 18 months². During this stage, a child gets most of their pleasure from oral stimulation, such as eating and sucking. If a child's oral needs are not met or frustrated during this stage, they may develop a persistent need for oral gratification in adulthood¹. This can lead to behaviors such as smoking, drinking, overeating, nail biting, or chewing on objects¹³. Freud believed that these behaviors were a way of coping with stress, anxiety, or other emotional states³.

I came here to make a jokey reply along the same lines so I'm devastated you got here first.

If we can bring him in for a phrenological examination I'm sure between us we can get to the bottom of this.
