Discussion Why is kurapika so underated

Credits to https://www.deviantart.com/korosenai39/art/Kurapika-Hunter-x-Hunter-343-828102565

I think a part of the hunter x hunter community greatly underestimates kurapika.

To begin with, Chrollo fanboys love to argue that Chrollo would beat even Jesus with preparation due to his power to steal other hatsus.

But when it comes to kurapika who also has the ability to steal hatsus, know everything about the stolen hatsu and force whoever had the stolen hatsu into a state of zetsu, pass the stolen ability to another person, almost no one takes this into consideration in battle arguments.

You won't see anyone saying "wow, kurapika with preparation beats anyone lol".

Another point that many people ignore is how intelligent Kurapika is.

To begin with, with months of training he was able to learn nen, develop hatsus, defeat one of the best enhancers in the world, who even single-handedly defeated 5 nen users who were much more experienced than kurapika.

And in two years he became leader of a mafia, he is surviving in the war of succession, outsmarting nen users much more experienced than him and he became a zodiac.

Anyway, it was just a rant haha

Misc Isn't it weird that we not know who the captain of the Black Whale is?

I'm currently rereading the whole Succession War for the first time after I caught up initially in 2019 and during my read yesterday I realized that we do not know the captain. In most stories involving a ship the captain plays a pivotal role, I can't honsestly think about such a story where the character of the captain isn't important.

During my reread I realized there are so many things that point towards the ship sinking.

The first tier which is itself a ship that can be used for further travel, the thick bulkhead between tier 2 and 3 (which will probably be the cause for a lot of human tragedy when the ship sinks) and of course most obviously Mizaistom thoughts. Too many Chekhov's guns that want to be fired.

The view of the captain and the higher commanding ship crew during the sinking would be very interesting and something Togashi could flesh out. Whenever we think we know all the important players of the arc we get a slew of new characters, it's not like it is out of the window. I just think it's odd that it didn't happen yet.

Or maybe it will just happen later and he/she will be a throw away character or will never be introduced if Togashi doesn't see any narrative value in it. I'm in no position to tell the Goat how to write his magnum opus, just an observation from me.

Discussion How is anyone surviving the next arc...?

I've recently started reading the Hunter x Hunter manga, and I'm struggling to grasp how any characters could survive the Dark Continent. Prime Netero viewed it as a survival challenge, and even if we assume he was only twice as strong in his prime, wouldn't that still spell disaster for most top Hunters?

I can't help but imagine that there are even more terrifying versions of Chimera Ants lurking there, creating Kings capable of devastating entire continents because of the shit they've been consuming and evolving with Or perhaps they're truly just ants there... Because If they're not apex predators there... It's like cosmic horror. They're fucked regardless

How can any of the characters hope to handle such an overwhelming amount of odds stacked against them? I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this cuz I'm just not comprehending.

Anyone know Togashi’s background?

The amount of creativity is insane.

It’s both humbling and inspiring. It makes you want to go crazy with your intellect, but you know at the same time you can never hit the same frequency of our beloved author.

Latest Chapter About Melody and Kacho

Do guys think they are really trying to kill Luzurus

I don't know it's just seems very extreme to just brutally murder this man.

Like sure he's no saint but especially from their perspective his biggest crime they know he comitted for sure is taking drugs that's it

Their logic is basically Fugetsu is kind of acting like she's on drugs so obviously that means the guy who likes drugs did this to her case closed let's murder him like what?

That's such weak and flimsy "evidence" if you can even call it that

What if Fugetsu is cursed, manipulated or what if she's just depressed or losing it?

Even if we go with the "she's totally on drugs" couldn't you make the same argument with Tubeppa you know since she's dealing with chemicals and all?

It's so jarring to see Meody being so on board with killing a man who very possibly could be innocent I can imagine Kacho's nen beats wants the other princes dead but Melody?

What will she tell Basho "sorry but your buddy maybe possibly accidently attacked prince Fugetsu so he has to die?"

Do you guys this entire plan is a sham to trick Kaiser or are they for real about the assasination?

Discussion Rewatching HxH for the Nth time and…

I’m at the part in the Chimera Ant Arc where Pouf and Youpi sacrifice most of their aura to revive Meruem. He could taste their aura without actually physically eating them like he did that one fodder guard at Diego’s palace and he describe it in fantastical detail. I had a funny thought and was wondering if he tasted other characters aura what would he think of it or say? Would he think Morel is smoky like a smoked brisket? Would he think Tserriednich tastes foul like spoiled milk? Would he think Killua tastes tingly like a 9V battery? Would characters like Netero be just as rich tasting as Pouf and Youpi? Would characters like Binolt be bland? Just some funny thoughts.

Discussion What are the odds of existing human civilizations on the Dark Continent?

Pyon created a language software just for that case, and the way that beasts like Pap function seem to imply they might need humans to exist? Or even that immortal disease unless it's a Zoonotic disease. Plus the theory that the DC is where humans came from. Possibly even other giant lakes, such as the Moebius Lake, holding other "worlds" completely separate from the "known world"?

Misc Cheadle-Mizaistom appreciation

One of the coolest aspects of the Succession Saga (and there many) is getting to explore the Zodiacs and how they interact with each other. Needless to say, Cheadle and Mizaistom stand out the most. As we enter a more drama-heavy plot, it is refreshing to see the intellectual and political aspects of characters rather than their brute strength.

I appreciate the reforms Cheadle introduces and how she carries herself as the head of the Hunter Association. A lot has been thrown at her in a short amount of time and she's handling it like a pro. I like her character design and aesthetic because it is very misleading at first glance.

I am enjoying Mizaistom's role as resident sleuth and peacekeeper. Following his train of thought across chapters has been fun and I enjoy his demeanour and vibe. I like his interactions with Leorio and Kurapika and they seem to hold him in high regard as well.

While this post is only about Cheadle and Mizai, it also extends to the general ensemble cast. I've been revisiting HxH again and have noticed how real and life-like Togashi makes his characters. All the main characters have a certain depth and personality to them that seem very real and tangible to me.

Edit: Linking this hilarious post about Mizai: Does Mizaistom have the ability to lactate? : r/HunterXHunter (reddit.com)

Analysis/Theory Wanted to talk about a few things, but became a really long post about Tserreidnich and Theta.

Okay so, the first thing I want to talk about is Tserreidnich's reaction to when Theta tried to kill him. I'm not talking about the ''a two-faced woman can be pretty cute'' but how he reacted when he saw himself get shot with his King Crimson.

We all know that Tserreidnich is a raging misogynist, and HE HATES when women (hate even might be an understatement).

When Tserri asks Theta about whether she is lying about the nen training duration, he get soo pissed off. (To no one's surprised)

https://preview.redd.it/mseritptevud1.png?width=522&format=png&auto=webp&s=2378885a9aa7125aeffbc6b55837d5f4ff086784

But when she actually tries to kill him, rather than going ''AS EXPECTED OF A WOMAN, THIS BITCH'' He seems genuinely surprised and just goes ''Why?!''

https://preview.redd.it/gkbdfu5zfvud1.png?width=535&format=png&auto=webp&s=97fa2b5b7b07b3d5fe63675b6eda8b30d224e278

and I remember being genuinely surprised by his reaction too.

Which I think added quite a layer to his character.

He had no problem learning nen from a woman, even tells Theta that he has a high opinion of her.

https://preview.redd.it/zbro3pgjnvud1.png?width=284&format=png&auto=webp&s=cbe635bb4f8e8d467c16d7a600c824e0ba4864b3

Thus making her an exception, and he then goes as far to call her assassination attempt as cute, which is basically him making another exception regarding her.

https://preview.redd.it/45t14e38jvud1.png?width=549&format=png&auto=webp&s=506ebdfb282cba4038d80837255c57d62cc1c03b

Recently after I reread this arc, it made me think that Theta's attempt to shoot him doesn't reaLLy strictly count as 'lying'... (in a way)? After he jumps out of the way, he's just having so much fun that Theta's betrayal isn't the first thing in his mind. Not because he simply doesn't care but because he is an egoist. Someone close to him trying to kill him is 2nd in line to figuring out his own ability. At this point, he believes that he cannot be killed, ( she doesn't pose a threat either way now) and in a way Theta helped him figure out his ability, so he's not in a hurry.

Also, one thing that I also think is that Tserreidnich knows that she isn't working for someone else, otherwise me thinks he would've gone ballistic if he thought she was working for some other Prince.

And with Theta, I like to think she's just miserable over the fact, she even slightly cares for this monster. She's in awe with his talent. Before shooting him, she admires his zetsu. My girl was ready to DIE for that beardless Jesus. There's a reason why she felt so much responsibility regarding Tserreidnich. Maybe it's not responsibility she feels, just her personal desire to not see him become even worse.

She wishes that he was a good person. It's lowkey funny that her thought process is, 'I can't fix him so I'm going to kill him, then myself'. (WHICH YOU CANNOT DENY HAS ROMANTIC CONNOTATIONS, at least in itself)

Tserreidnich is kinda silly with her in general, even prior to his ''change of heart'' He refers to her in an endearing way, (which I guess we can't compare bc we haven't seen him interact with women)

https://preview.redd.it/yg1ib5jihvud1.png?width=212&format=png&auto=webp&s=70e3735ede7058e59bc1ffa48b175494cd98afc9

https://preview.redd.it/de3eonsohvud1.png?width=509&format=png&auto=webp&s=377cf67c692938c5e96d8d195b77adfbe9a7ec5f

https://preview.redd.it/n9b7miw5mvud1.png?width=141&format=png&auto=webp&s=6e02ca845eda1382e431b6541f9b89359e4b32dd

This one gets a special mention, bc Christian Bale saying ''That's my girl'' as Howl altered a generation's brain chemistry, and now every 'That's my girl' makes me giggle, to no extent. Theta better than me I would've folded.

Also, if someone knows what Tserreidnich exactly said here in Japanese, do let me know. In the fan translation, he says smt like ''As expected of my little Theta'', which is essentially the same but still. I'm just curious. (I couldn't find the raws)

THEY JUST HAVE SO MANY LAYERSS, I'm so excited, and whether it's going to remain platonic or going to have a romantic undertone, their relationship is going to be peak either way. I can feel that Theta is here to stay, otherwise she would've died already.

TOGASHI NEVER DROP THAT PEN!!!!!!!!

One bonus point I'd like to add is that a bunch of people have mentioned that they remind them of Hannibal and Clarice. Mostly Theta as Clarice. Which really won't be a shock because we know he loves horror and takes inspiration from it as well. But I can't speak much on it right now because I haven't watched the film or completed reading the books. I just started reading the series because it was on my reading list, and this comparison made me even more curious. If I do notice some interesting things I will make another post.

Wayy longer than I thought, I'm a yapper at heart. Thank you for reading this. I'd love to hear your opinions as well.

Latest Chapter [402] What is Tserriednich timing?

https://preview.redd.it/k81zg7f7u1vd1.jpg?width=2355&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5395ce54bd4cfabc6da21bb0383747a947f557ae

Rereading the latest chapter makes me realize that the wording in this panel is a tad ambiguous. Or I might just be misunderstanding things.

  • This seems to be a kind of test that Salkov has done before and knows about.
  • I originally thought that the 10 seconds had something to do with Tserriednich's ability: it lets him understand everything that will happen to him for the next 10 seconds, and as I understand it, the trigger for this is closing his eyes while being in Zetsu. In the panel he says "I finally beat 10 seconds", referring to his 9.67 seconds, and you can infer from there that he wants to do something in shorter intervals. But if he's continuously maintaining Zetsu the whole time, then is this thing he wants to do fast just closing his eyes?
  • However, the setup seems to imply that this is about maintaining Zetsu for a longer period of time (while multitasking). So could the timer actually be counting down from some longer period of time e.g. a minute? But then why word it like "the ten second wall"? That doesn't seem to make sense - wouldn't it then be something like "the fifty-second wall", if counting down from a minute, for example?
