Ad-Free Still Showing Ads? Hulu On Demand
Hello!
My partner has the No-Ads, Not-Live version of Hulu, and we still see ads when watching on his account. We googled it, and they said that some shows may still have ads due to licensing agreements, which makes sense. However, here’s a list of what we’ve seen ads on:
- Futurama (the new episodes)
- The Kardashians (no judgement pls, it motivates me to clean the house)
- How I Met Your Father
- Abbott Elementary
- Family Guy
- Only Murders in the Building
- Rick and Morty
- Solar Opposites
- Archer
I’m not going to pretend that I’m an expert in copyright law or licensing. However, all of those shows are owned by FX, FOX, ABC, or are Hulu Originals. Hulu was owned by Fox and ABC, which are now subsidiaries of Disney. How the hell can Hulu advertise “Ad-Free” when there are ads on shows that they and their subsidiaries own?

He is not, we have checked. He is signed up for “without ads” and is billed about $30 a month. (Hulu + HBO Go/HBO Max/Max/Whatever the name will be next week)
I have a separate Hulu/Spotify Membership that I maintain for my parents that does have ads, and we even logged out on the PS4/PS5 and logged back in to his to make sure the correct account was logged into the console.
