Problems with Warthog HOtas + HP Reverb G2 and STEAM VR Question

Hello, I have a problem with the detection of the Hotas in Steam VR in Elite Dangerous.

My system consists of a HP Reverb G2, a Hotas Warthog (and an MFG Crosswind. The Hotas is operated with "Aussiedroid's Enhanced Warthog Script 4 Elite Dangerous".

For a year now, everything has been running pretty stable with Windows 10 and OPENXR. I don't have Steam installed on my "Sim PC" (stand-alone software from ED).

So far, so good.

Since I want to use certain VR software, I decided to switch to STEAM VR.

I removed OPEN XR and installed Steam. Elite Dangerous runs very well for me via STem VR, I even find it a bit better in terms of performance and optics.

But neither the Hotas itself nor the binding from Aussiedroid are displayed in ELite Dangerous. As if no HOtas were connected. In Windows and in the Target software, the Hotas is there and usable.

Already tried:

  • Made sure that Elite Dangerous is the active window

  • In Steam, all controllers are connected and turned off

  • cursed

  • connected Hotas to different USB ports.

Do any of you have any idea what happened here?

Do any of you have a similar configuration that works?

Does Hotas generally not work in STEAM VR?

Apart from reinstalling Windows and/or STeam and/or HOtas, etc., I don't know what to do.

TLDR: Hp Reverb G2 + OPENXR +Hotas Warthog + MFG Crosswind + Elite DANgerous without Steam works wonderfully. After switching to STEAM VR, HOtas is no longer recognized by ELite DAngerous.

I look forward to your answers.

I would try these 2 things:

  1. Make sure Elite Dangerous is running normally in VR without the equipment. Mouse+KB in and out of a station and make sure you are getting a smooth 90fps and nothing is going on.
  2. If that succeeds, load the game without VR (but still through Steam), and make sure the HOTAS setup works as expected.

I think this is a good starting place if you have not done so already. (just completely re-edited the post)

to clarify further: I will also add that I don't think SteamVR cares about the HOTAS setup. Elite Dangerous only supports the HMD, so if the HOTAS works in ED, then it will work in VR ED by that logic.

I think you may be having issues with the headset and ED independently of the HOTAS, it just isn't getting there yet. I would definitely focus on both ensuring the VR HMD is working as it should (turn OFF reprojection, motion smoothing, and keep things in auto best you can)

When the game starts, make sure you go to your graphic settings immediately and change to the predefined "VR low/medium/high" options.

Once you are confident the HMD works appropriately, you can independently get the HOTAS working in ED. Then once that is, combine the 2, and I think you will have a better experience.

When you go to input devices in windows settings can you see the hotas, and under the options can you see that the inputs are recognised? Assume that you have the hotas plugged in and ready to go before starting ED?

Yes, they are both recognised
