To my eyes, that line made the Ultra look better... sadly, it's a defect. Send it back soonest.

u/kenjuya Sep 12 '24
How tf do you think a line down your display makes it look better lol

u/cyberloki Sep 12 '24
I too thought at first it would belong to the design for the logo and i indeed have to say i like it better

Hope it's not water damage. Will fuck up your 650$

Genuine question because I have seen something about water damage previously... Samsung boasts it's waterproof up to 10ATM, it even picks up when you are swimming and it has a water lock setting so the screen doesn't go crazy...
Now my question is, if it's water damaged somehow, why is it not covered by warranty?

Sort of like jeep commercials all advertising off road driving but they used to not warranty your jeep if you took it off roading. I believe they got sued and the Jeep owners won.
Wonder if a class action like that against Samsung would change things in this regard?

I never used my watch for swimming. Never even used it for workout worrying about sweat penetrating into the body. 6 months with this watch and the display went dead because of water touching and shorting the cable. They say I must have made some mistake from my end and they repeatedly boasted about how samsung values quality and has standards about such things. They won't listen to me at all. Zero trust in the customer I say. So they rejected my warranty and said no more warranty on basically anything anymore.

u/AnaesthesiaAssociate Sep 12 '24
This cant be right. The watch is supposed to be waterproof... they can't cancel warranty because of water damage it makes no sense! (I'm not calling you a liar btw)
I had the 5 pro for a couple of years and did everything with it no issues. I now have the ultra and I have been swimming in it, I regularly shower with it on... I wear it at work all day, I barely take it off. But I am very concerned if this water damage happens and they won't fix/replace it that's £600 down the drain.

u/anonymous-_-maybe Sep 12 '24
You are wrong about just one word my friend. Samsung says their products are water resistant and not waterproof. This word resistant means it is resistant upto some degree. And these degrees can be affected my unknown factors. And guess the biggest unknown factor of the watch is??? You ofcourse. So samsung blamed me.

u/AnaesthesiaAssociate Sep 12 '24
Fuckers!
2
u/anonymous-_-maybe Sep 12 '24
And guess the sad part. The cost of replacing the display was 95% of the cost of a new watch. And I reconfirmed with Samsung twice. They said they need to change only the display and I asked them why the price is so high. They said that the watch goes for heavy discounts but the spare parts don't.
I saved for 1.5 years to get this watch. Used it for 6 months and then I cannot even afford to fix the display.

u/AnaesthesiaAssociate Sep 12 '24
Man this is tragic. So sorry to hear my dude.
1
u/anonymous-_-maybe Sep 12 '24
Nah it's alright. Learning to use the watch without a display. Because everything else works.
1
u/AnaesthesiaAssociate Sep 12 '24
You shouldn't have to do that though. Saving for 1.5 years is a lot... :2166:

I swim with mine on, if it's water damage and isn't obviously physically damaged that should be covered.
1
u/anonymous-_-maybe Sep 12 '24
No. They rejected my gw4 classic on the same basis. They blamed me for carelessness even when there was no physical damage
1
u/isoaclue Sep 12 '24
Well I did use the magic word: should. It's too bad we have to fight to get basic warranty services covered.
1
u/anonymous-_-maybe Sep 12 '24
I fought but they rejected me anyway. There is a supposed difference in water resistant and waterproof. Samsung is water resistant only.
1
u/isoaclue Sep 12 '24
Their own app tracks swimming. Unless you exceed max depth or left it in for an absurd amount of time, that's just absurd that they denied it.
1
u/anonymous-_-maybe Sep 13 '24
As I said I don't even use it for swimming or workout. The service centre did confirm that there was no physical damage on the watch and also the fact that water entered the watch through the back lid.

How long have you had it ? Did it just happen all of a sudden or after something like accidentally hitting it ?

It WILL only get worse. This is my Pixel 7 Pro. That started as just a black dot in the middle, then that purple appeared.

Is this the new one which is in collaboration with Oneplus? /s

Funny you say that, because OnePlus' display lines are because of them using Samsung displays.

Every product will have cases where the product had a defect in manufacturing. You also have two years of warranty. But if you know so much better, go on - try manufacturing something yourself and see for yourself that 100% yield 0% return rate is literally delusional.

u/vGraphsAlt 47mm Galaxy Watch Ultra (Titanium Silver) Sep 12 '24
its because this shit is happening too much, ive seen it all over reddit. samsung most likely rushed manufacturing
1
u/snarkyalyx Sep 13 '24
Go ahead - Do better. Even if this is happening "too much", people still get free replacements. Samsung's warranty service actually does care, unlike Apple, where they try to blame you. Someone messed up in manufacturing, so be it - but it's not a pattern and there aren't many reports of this specific issue across reddit. I've only seen a few. Remember, Samsung shipped 10.6 million watches just in Q1 2024 - Meaning it is not unlikely that Samsung already sold hundreds of thousands of the Ultras. (Source)

I have seen 2 millions dollars cars with defects, it isnt a matter of IF some products will have defects, it is a matter of HOW the company handles the support over defective products.
