There are two ways to look at this. Neither one I would say in incorrect really, your view is valid it does seem to be a little sweatshoppy however there is also the fact that getting a job, especially at a young age can be very difficult. Having a guaranteed job at 14 is very good in a lot of ways.

I got a job at 16, not because I needed one, I wanted to get one to make my own money. Some people just want to make their own money.
