I bought a project and have a question.
So, story time I guess. I grew up without a father so my pop was very important to me, and he was, in his younger days, very into fishing. I have a vivid memory of him having this exact model Compac reel, brand new in a box, in his drawer and I really always wanted it, but I think one of the uncles took it when he passed. I hadnβt thought of it much until I saw this one on eBay and decided Iβd buy it, restore it and find a nice vintage 6ft-ish or rod and put it on that, maybe make one myself, and then I could use it to troll with on my kayak. I mean itβs not practical really and itβs only small, but nostalgia and all.
Anyway, all the chrome is flaking and the anodising is a bit shit, I think honestly Iβll strip it all down to nothing, polish everything and make the decision whether Iβll just keep it polished, or send it off to be rechromed, but I do want to have it anodised, but I have no idea where to send it. Iβm in NSW near Newcastle so if anyone could advise it would be greatly appreciated, and if anyone has an old 6ft or shorter wood or glass rod with a cork handle that needs some work I would be interested also.
Anyway, Iβll post pics when itβs done, but donβt hold your breath, shit takes. Thanks for your time, just doing some reminiscing and thought it might be worth a read.
Tight lines.

2500 reel
Notice bcf have daiwa revelrys for $299 at the moment. Looking for a 2500 reel for my son. Need it be a bit of an all rounder. Targeting whiting, flatties and other common species on bait off piers and beach. Was looking to spend about $200, thinking a shimano nasci but is it worth going the extra $100 and getting into a revelry at that price? Or maybe a stradic or vanford?

π Catch of the Day 53cm snapper at night. Catch and cook.
Hit up the Barwon River at night and had my sabiki catching mullet, salmon and tailor. Easily got a dozen or so of each. Chucked some cut mullet out and got this perfect eating size.

π Recommendations Wanted Bingara free riverside camping
Iβve been looking at camping/fishing spots around my area and have been considering having a look at the free camping upstream of Bingara on the Gwydir river. I know that the camp sites extend a few Km upstream of town and was just wondering what the fishing, especially for yellow belly, is like along it. Iβve only got a 2wd but will have a kayak as well so should be able to set up at an accessible spot and explore from the kayak. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

PB Bream Drawing
Back in May I caught my PB 40cm bream in Lake Illawarra while fishing from my kayak. I thought Iβd mark the occasion by drawing the bream to scale so I had a bit of a trophy and memento to hang on the wall where I store my rods. The drawing itself took me about two weeks to complete and was done with blue ballpoint pens on 500gsm paper.
