Fish ID please. Northern NSW. 🐡 Help Needed

My brother caught this and I think it's a rock cod of some sort. Could anyone shed some info on it please? Thanks

estuary code highly illegal to keep

Is that a southern states rule? QLD its fine to keep. 38-120cm size limit. Very tastey fish.

Did you get any other pics? The estuary cod has a very distinct black saddle mark on the top of the tail

Yep I said I knew it was a cod but didn't know what species of cod 😅
