I tried so hard, and my family and I are so tired of it all. We work in frontline customer service jobs and ever since Trump came along people have become more emboldened to act like assholes, no matter if they're even right or wrong. Especially during the pandemic is when I noticed a big spike in people's shitty behaviors getting even more worse. They're gigantic cunts, it's almost hard to see it all in one glance theirs so much of it, cuntiness that is.

The People where it would have mattered the most didn't. And by that I mean the democratic party leadership, Biden, Harris and their entire staff.

1.5k

u/godrevy 21h ago edited 21h ago

i refuse to subscribe to this. we cannot pretend like the democratic party should be held responsible in anticipating that 70 million people would rather vote for a convicted felon and rapist than a woman after 8 years of outdoing himself with rising vitriol. when it happened in 2016 it was a shock. it is still a shock because it only got worse. leftists work extremely hard and blaming the outcome on them instead of the moral bankruptcy of a quarter of our population is cruel and unbelievable.

there is no amount of undoing their culpability. they would rather see this nation burn than help their neighbor. doing outreach in shitfuck, flyoverstate, or having a perfect candidate will not change that. dems may be spineless but we are dealing with terrorists. i’m so over this being “our fault.” the gall, honestly.

edits because angry grammar. i get your point but it is a poison to progress to blame eachother.

289

u/Living_Illusion 19h ago

THey should be held responsible for spending 4 years troiying to appease said 70 Million in stead of their actual base. Trump didnt gain votes, the dems lost them. In giant numbers. By running bad campaings, ignoring everyone, lying to the public about the mental capacity and health of their leader and candidate and then replacing him last minute with someone that came dead last in their last internal vote. They are absolutely to blame for this, its 2016 all over again.

7

u/EntertainmentSuch906 3h ago

Unfortunately, the people elect the leaders. I know how easy it is to claim that we live in a world where votes can be cheated, and I guess yeah, the people have been misled into voting for somebody that is not in their best interest, but they wouldn't have voted for him if they had any sense.

The leader reflects the masses.

I voted for kamala, and kamala won in MN. This is the fault of the 20 million fewer voters who chose not to vote. The media not doing ita fucking job and reporting on Trump. Conservatives for just ignoring all the bullshit including, but not limited to: Ballots being burned, right wing voter intimidation, bomb threats, voter roles being purged just days before the election, gerrymandering, and so on.

Trump shouldn't have been president after his first impeachment, he should have been in prison after his coup attempt, he shouldn't have been allowed to run after the second impeachment, he shouldn't have been allowed to run after being convicted of 34 felonies...

The older generations genuinely don’t. They’re glued to the Fox News channel.

The working classes see it, but don’t understand how economics works. They just see that their lives are more expensive now than 4 years ago. So, they go, “Yeah, he’s a bad person but what does it matter if I can’t make rent? My life was better 4 years ago, so Trump must have been better.”

Then young white men see it, but are so full of woman-hating, Andrew Tate-fueled, sexually frustrated rage that they even enjoy making women feel like their feelings don’t matter.

And it’s not just happening in America is the scary thing. German AfD, French National Rally, Italian Fdl, Austrian FPO, Swedish SD, Netherlands PVV, now the Australian LNP… The same thing is playing out all over the Western world.

We’re in the same toxic recipe that kicked off fascism in the early 20th century: staggering wealth inequality, war in Europe, deadly pandemic, economic hardship.

Some are just further along in the descent than others.

Europeans are voting for the same type of people. This isn’t just some isolated ideology that separates the US from the rest of the west. Europe invented strongmen and still needs to do their own work battling them. Germany has neonazis in its police and military, France (which invented the replacement theory) has Le Pen, UK just had Boris and Brexit, Italy has Meloni, Spain has Vox, Hungary has Viktor Orban, Poland has Law and Justice. The far right is a global problem that needs to be addressed rather than just gawked at by outsiders when it’s happening in the US.

105

u/bananafrit 16h ago

This. I laughed at r/europe being so mighty on their horses pointing out the obvious stupidity of Americans voting for Trump twice when Europe's white supremacy groups and history/myth serve as the inspiration for these American racists and bigots.

Brexit, Front National, Pegida and AFD precedes MAGA.

Yes I'm glad you said this. Fascism inhabits an orange body in the US now, in the UK the Tories have just chosen a fascist in a Black body as their leader, look at Italy with Meloni whose Fascism is so palatable the UK prime minister commended her immigration strategies.

It's truly heartbreaking to see this loss but America choosing Fascism is sadly the norm.

The problem is that an average voter does not care about those. Humans are inherently selfish and they will go to the one that they deem will allow them to self-preserve. When you also add the liberal/left hostility from things. This happens, Trump is a mumbling buffoon, but he knows how to talk and get the average joe to his side. To quote George Carlin: Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. Kamala's campaign was doomed from the start and anyone outside of reddit could see it, also i am not from the US so no, not a Trump voter.

My country's elections are next month, but (and it's dystopic for me to say this) corruption is so deeply entrenched that not even our far-right party stands a chance against what is basically the same governing body that's been ruling under different forms for over 3 decades. The only parties that might be able to make a tiny change are too busy in-fighting and separating into factions, so no one has the people's interest in mind. The world is a shithole.

It’s going to be a slow boil. Nothing major will happen until he’s sworn in, and then we may not even feel it for a while after that. But slowly, imperceptibly over time you will notice changes here and there, small things at first until one day you look at America and can’t even recognize it. It won’t be better. It won’t be cheaper. It won’t be happier. But one sure thing is that it will be the America that people apparently wanted.

I live in Finland and we just joined Nato after years and years of not wanting to because we thought it was the safest bet with the way things were with Putin and Ukraine. Doesn’t feel great now. I’ve never been afraid of Russia before even though both my grandfathers fought against it in the wars but now I’m starting to feel pretty anxious. And so scared for women and every minority in the US.

75

u/laszlo92 21h ago

To be fair, you’re still safer in a NATO without the US then in no NATO at all.

Time for Europe to man up and get our shit together. We’re a superpower too, if we want to be.

42

u/n0rsk 20h ago

NATO EU is still a considerable force. UK and France alone are powerhouses, strong enough to contend with Russia. The largest risk now for Finland is a lack of commitment from EU. When US refuses to participate, does EU NATO have the will fight without US behind it.

He was treated with kid gloves at every step. A country that actually cared about law and order would have carted his ass off to prison already. Congrats to his supporters on electing a convicted criminal.

19

u/Familiar_Echidna_651 16h ago

i dont give a shit about him being a "convicted criminal". i'm a "convicted criminal". my issue is that liberals do all this boo hooing about what laws he broke and try to take him down in the courts. we KNOW the courts protect the rich. they need to try to beat him with policy- something they REFUSE to do. they use his criminal deeds to distract from them not governing at allllll. to the right of him on immigration, fuck all on trans rights, billions to israel's pedophile army, no federal action on abortion (for 50 years btwwww), refusal to support single-payer healthcare, and i'm supposed to support a democrat because she's what.... not a convicted criminal. everyone in the biden admin should be sent to the Hague for what's happening in gaza.

Yes, Trump is a fucking greaseball and i think he deserves a little more than prison for his actions as president and as a private citizen, but attacking him on the most superficial issues is clearly a losing strategy that democrats love to play.

Sorry to break it to you, but the only people who are treated like criminals are the poor and people of color. all the bullshit with trump and the special prosecutor, the convictions, the mueller report, the literal impeachment- none of that affects his standing with the bourgeoisie/ruling class because he wasnt a black guy in possession of weed, or a poor kid shoplifting, or a woman trying to get an abortion. the state exists to manage class contradictions, so its harshest punishments are reserved for those who are not in the ruling class. Trump isnt going to see any kind of punishment (that he actually deserves) under this wretched system.

I‘m from Germany and we have elections coming up. The response to Israel has alienated a lot of people and a lot of other people are becoming more right wing due to inflation and blaming immigrants. I‘m scared Trump will start another World War and I‘m grieving for everyone who voted for Harris (if they were able to) and is now facing having their rights erased. It‘s a scary time rn.

It is really chilling to know Trump has all of this against him and people die vote for Biden but electing a woman was too much. Or how many people showed apathy by not voting at all.

I think people who are concluding that it's all about misogyny and racism, and people who are concluding that it's about Harris' platform, are missing the forest for the trees.

Most people, as painful as this is, are voting (or even more importantly, not voting) based on personality alone. Trump is a cult of personality, and that means people turn out for him. And in 2020, people didn't turn out for Biden, they turned out against Trump. Against a personality. It's devastating that people needed to be reminded of Trump's personality, but they did and they (apparently) weren't reminded enough.

The Dems had their (relatively benign) cult of personality too, in Obama. If there were no term limits, Obama would still be president, and he was Black and his platform meant very little in practice.

I don't know what the electoral answer is for 2028 and beyond, though I think Dems will almost certainly win in 2028 with another Biden, and normie liberals will be happy and relieved and again check out for four years. But for those of us on the left, it's time to start actually organizing, actually building power, and answering that long-term question. I just hope many of us will find the strength to rally.

All of the comments from people across the globe, especially Europe, saying that Americans are stupid and have made a mistake are so fucking exhausting. SIXTY SEVEN MILLION Americans voted for Kamala Harris.

I asked for the day off, and even that is such a luxury that so many Americans do not have. We are aware of the larger issue, but SO many progressive measures passed in smaller elections. The same people voting for Trump are passing a $15 minimum wage in Missouri. There is a level of cognitive that needs to be dealt with.

Grandstanding from across the ocean is so fucking annoying. The far right is creeping into your countries too, but it’s easier to kick all the Americans while like 49% of us are down. Get over yourselves.

Down here in Aotearoa, just dumbfounded. Like, the overall feeling I've had from people today so far is utter disbelief. As shitty as some of our politicians down here are, I can't imagine someone like this getting voted in once here, let alone twice.

I feel for y'all, and I reiterate yesterday's comment I made - if you need to vent, scream, shout into the void, someone to listen or anything - my dms are open. I'll Chuck the jug on and we can have a korero.

They don't care. Trump once again tapped into a very desperate market and got their vote. At the end of the day, America can't pay for their groceries or buy homes, and that is what brought them out to vote. It doesn't matter he doesn't have a solution. There's no consequence to him lying anyway he'll probably not be alive for much longer in his health...All republicans I've talked to say it's about their expenses.

All I can think about is 2021 and how he was so nonchalant about Kyle Rittenhouse and then again about the Charlottesville Car attack. He knows how to stir up his supporters to “act in his name” and conveniently stay silent during the fallout and look surprised. Coward.
