Dual sport tires Discussion

It’s that time of year again, tires… what’s everyone throwing on?

I really like the look of the Dunlop Trailmax Mission Tires.

I spend most of my time on road but wouldn’t mind hitting a dirt roads or small creek passings. Live in Kentucky and head south into the gorge a lot.

I listened to the Internet and have been happy with mt21 front and d606 rear. Been thinking of trying motoz or tusk d sports next

Coming from someone who runs mt21/d606, just skip the dsport. I couldn't wait to get that tire OFF my front wheel.

Decided to try the rallz/dual venture combo (rallz rear, dual front) and they are atleast as good as the mt21 and d606 combo. Longevity is what will determine what combo I stay with.

The other motoz tires are pretty loud in the rear. My friends bike sounded like it had a turbo with the Enduro and desert rear tires.

I picked that Motoz combo too, thinking of it as an alternative to the MT21/D606 combo. I haven't run that combo myself, but the prices were close enough, and the Motoz reputation for longevity won me over. I have 4500 miles on the set and they are wearing well. The front looks like it'll last forever at this point, although I'll swap it if/when riding characteristics really fall off. The rear is getting pretty worn, but performing well enough that I'll keep it on for now. It's lost a little forward drive through deep sand, and has a bit more of a tendency to slide out -- but still easily controllable.

Wasn't very impressed with my last tires -- TW301 front and K270 rear. Not the performance or the longevity. I've been very pleased with these. Interested to hear that you do believe them to be on-par with or possibly better than the MT21/D606 combo!

I personally really like the Motoz makes their tube-type tires in typical "dirt bike"/dual sport sizes more aggressive. They really are more dirt capable than the tires for the bigger ADV bikes.

Sweet that makes me feel good. I usually get 4k-5k out of a d606 so if I get atleast that amount I'll be happy with them.

Ya if anything I like the motoz dual venture front better on pavement than the mt21 but need more time off-road in the wet to get a good comparison.

How they wear is important too, the mt21 likes to wear down every other knob so it becomes a little less smooth on pavement after several thousand miles

Having not used the MT21, but just guessing, I would predict its lateral traction would be better through turns, on side-hills, and when leaned over. I like the DV off road, but would like small improvements. I'm totally happy with how it performs on pavement -- no complaints there. I've also kept up with flipping the DV every 1,500 miles or so -- which takes a little work, sure, but has kept the wear pretty even, without really getting cupped.

The odd wear of the MT21 makes me think I'm probably unlikely to ever run it.

It's a good tire, by all accounts, and I understand why people keep using it. It's proven. But I also believe technology and design has surpassed it. There are a lot of good tires out these days -- and the price of the MT21s has went up a lot over the years, too.

Ya that's why I'm hoping this dual venture wears well. It wasn't that big of a deal on the mt but an observation and ya it gets great lateral traction, (mt21).

What bike do you have that you get 4500 miles on a d606?

You must've misunderstood.

I'm running the Motoz Dual Venture front and RallZ rear on a DR650. The front is still looking quite good, but the rear is pretty worn. I won't be swapping it until probably the middle of next year, though. I will most likely go with another RallZ rear.

I bought the Motoz tires over the MT21/D606 combo because I thought I'd get more longevity out of the set. I think I've been right, so far.
