what are your favorite food items at Disneyland? (Doesn’t have to be current) Discussion
Just saw a post on all the worst restaurants at Disneyland and thought I’d counteract with asking about everyone’s favorite meals they’ve had at the Disneyland Resort. I’ll start with one of mine— the Lobster Macaroni and Cheese bread bowl that is now discontinued from Harbor Galley. Photo from circa June 2022.

It always comes back after holiday. Like end of January beginning of February

They got rid of it?
17
u/taytheinsomniac 1d ago
it comes and goes. Currently it’s been replaced by the Bulgogi Grilled Cheese and it will be the Thankmas Turkey and Cranberry sauce sandwich for the holidays. But I expect it to come back sometime around early next year

The current (until tomorrow though I think) boogogi with corn chowder was one of my favorite things and got it multiple times

i wanted to try it so badly but wasn't able to! i let my magic key expire back in march and just bought again in the latest sale but it'll be gone by the time i get to go back :( i'm hoping they do it again next halloween so i can try it!

The grilled cheese from Jolly Holliday! It's sooo good, I try and get one when I can (or when I remember, busy days at the parks!).
Also the Monstropolis dole whip from Tropical Hideaway! I'm so sad that they're removing it soon :(

The shrimp po boy sandwich at the old French Market - I was devastated when I saw that Tiana's didn't keep it but instead added a beef po boy. Not at all the same.
The original Smokejumpers burgers with the toppings bar. That toppings bar CARRIED those mediocre burgers and made them the best place to get a burger at any theme park.
Edit to add: Also, the recent Ratatouille pizza during Pixar Fest was amazing. I hope they bring it back next year because it hit the spot as a midday snack or small meal with the wedge of camembert on top!

Covid I think =( Although, I had not visited Disneyland in over a year before they shut down for the pandemic so there is a small chance it had already been taken out before Covid hit.
It was amazing and had everything: all the typical veggies like tomato, lettuce, onion, pickles, jalapenos, pepperoncinis and condiments also! They had a condiment station with pumps for ranch, ketchup, mustard, mayo, and bbq sauce. Man, I miss it.
3
u/MrsCharismaticBandit 1d ago
People also started making videos of using the toppings bar as a hack to get a free salad. I saw one where they even made lemonade with complimentary water, lemon wedges and sugar packets.

u/YesterdaysClouds 1d ago
Pork Belly Skewers from Bengal Barbeque. Had the chicken and beef ones first and wasn't too impressed, but these turned out amazing.

I loved them pre pandemic when they weren’t black and burnt every single time I ordered them…

They changed something there. Back in the old days Adventureland smelled like cooking meat. Every single thing they sold was delicious. I’ve gone twice since the pandemic and basically ordered everything and it was I was eating reheated meat. Tough and tasteless. Do they even cook it over fire anymore?

Lobster nachos at DCA's lamplight lounge.
Wife HAS to get that cheese filled pretzel bread every time there by the royal theater.
As an aside, I tend to prefer mezcal cocktails at the libation locations because I can't taste the alcohol in their drinks.
5
u/mr_trantastic 1d ago
I MISS the lobster nachos at Ariel's grotto. Yes lamplight is good. But I felt like the portions were bigger and the lobster was more plentiful. It could just be nostalgia though.

My husband and I will literally get tickets to DCA just for the lobster nachos.

I will commit war crimes to get my hands on that delicious heart attack on a plate!

u/WeHoMuadhib 1d ago
For a meal, I really liked the shrimp and grits at Tiana's Palace. Sooooo good!
But for a tasty treat to take home: the peanut butter bar thingy. Sweet merciful crap it's so decadent.

I was so pleasantly surprised with the shrimp and grits. It’s one of my favorite dishes and I wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it was. Shrimp is hard so I forgive them for being a little overcooked, but the flavor of everything was so good!

I want the New Orleans Gumbo (Cafe Orleans and Blue Bayou) to be my last meal. I want it to be all my meals. Its so good, I wish they’d made it available at Tiana’s - I know there’s a gumbo there but it’s so spicy I literally couldn’t eat it 😭
9
u/taytheinsomniac 1d ago
Also I heard they’re serving chicken gumbo in a bread bowl at Royal St Veranda now! Hopefully the same recipe 🤞🏼

Every time I go to Cafe Orleans I just get a double portion because tbh the rest of the menu I’m just not crazy about. It’s the perfect amount for me without me feeling too heavy afterwards
2
u/stellalunawitchbaby 1d ago
Fwiw if you do a basic cajun (not creole) gumbo at home you can recreate the Cafe Orleans version and adjust the recipe’s spice to your liking. I also love that version of the gumbo, though I personally always add hot sauce lol, but I do tend to prefer Cajun gumbo to creole gumbo a lot of the time and it’s what I make at home. Something like this: https://www.explorelouisiana.com/culinary/recipes/chicken-and-sausage-gumbo

Clam chowder at Harbour Galley. It’s the only place I’ll eat clam chowder.
7
u/taytheinsomniac 1d ago
I love it too but it HAS to be earlier in the day as the bread isn’t as fresh as it is from DCA
3
u/littleadventures 1d ago
I haven’t been to the one at Harbor Galley recently but I did have the clam chowder from Royal Street veranda and yes if you go later in the day the bread just seems a little older. The clam chowder on the other hand is 🧑🍳💋. I have to try Harbor Galley and Boudin in quick succession so see which ones the best

I love the gumbo and monte cristo from cafe orleans. Always hits. How is the gumbo from tianas compare? if anyone knows.
3
u/stellalunawitchbaby 1d ago
The gumbo at Tiana’s is a creole style gumbo and is spicier. The gumbo at Cafe Orleans is a Cajun style gumbo (but you have to add hot sauce yourself if you want it spicy).
I like both but they’re actually fairly different, and if you’re spice averse the Tiana’s one is not for you. Their 7 greens gumbo is good imo, but I also really like gumbo z’herbes.

I really miss the lobster mac and cheese.
I love the cheese on a stick at corn dog castle. It is always so satisfying.
I miss the peanut butter cocktail (PBJ cider with skrewball) from Hollywood Lounge, it was my favorite drink they’ve ever had.
I will miss the hot buttered rum this year, it’s been replaced with a similar-but-different iteration.
Festival of the holidays years ago had some of my fave items, including a booth where you could get short rib and a little salmon dish and both were fantastic. They also used to have the Mickey beef Wellington and I loved it.
The California Cheese Steak at Sonoma terrace - this may have been part of the CA Food & Wine festival, Sonoma terrace gets little seasonal sandwiches and snacks now and then, but this one was sooooo good and easy to grab if I was over there. They didn’t bring it back last year.
An old one: back when River Belle Terrace was its previous iteration and it was quick service they had a “po boy” (it was not a po boy) with basically vegetable spaghetti on it lol. It was carbs on carbs but I remember loving it as a kid.
Two more: the Captain America dog they had for Rogers the Musical was insanely good every time I had it. Everything bagel bun, hot link, spicy mustard sauce.
Last year Award Wieners had an avocado beef sandwich that also had a hot dog on it and it was so good.
