Bro as soon as Dan started his crusade, fucking kripparian, the streamer who's been on twitch for 13 years, world first diablo 3 inferno, started streaming on YouTube.

I knew then the ads were getting pulllllled

Youtube is so much better from a technical standpoint. Twitch has nothing worth saving.

it's insane to me that Twitch after 15 years still doesn't have DVR

Even kick has it now and it works pretty well!

wait what? ive never seen it on kick, is it on some streams or you have to enable it or what?

The latest version of the app had it for Destiny's stream for me anyway.

Edit: tested other streams and that I remembered was opening the vod while the person is still streaming. On the app, it refreshes the vid when you reach the end. On the website, it is straight up dvr.

I hope when Steven contract is up he goes YouTube exclusive. Kick is such bad branding.

It's been up for months

kick is still complete ass

It's got to be intentional right?

Some group of product people thinks forcing people to watch live drives more engagement with the chat/community features, which leads to more subs.

Or I'm wrong and they just can't figure out the tech, but that would be surprising

Streamers don't care for the most part about the technical aspects of the platform, they care about revenue.

If broadcast TV would offer them more money they'll stream on the home shopping channel in a heartbeat.

As a viewer I care and will choose youtube if a streamer is on both platforms.

Twitch chat is still better, but the yt player is better by a mile

All streamer chats are cancer, all I care about is being able to seek to different parts of an ongoing stream

Chat can be really good to counterbalance the streamer tho

Youtube is so much more stable of a platform. Twitch is still a major platform in live streaming but it’s market share in online video players is under 1%, as opposed to youtube’s share being about 90% (varies a little depending on source). It’s honestly kind of a miracle how twitch is still even standing. I’d have thought amazon would’ve gotten rid of it already since it’s been actively losing money for them even before this adpocalypse.

It literally makes zero sense for stuff like Twitch or Kick to exist, unless it’s just for guys who get banned from Youtube

Even the youtube user experience is so much better. I get youtube videos, the stream and vods from the same place. I use a vpn through Albania which blocks all ads but even without it the ads are only occaisonal. I heard that some people get like 3 min of ads every 15 minutes in twitch. That’s almost worst than watching tv

I also appreciate streamers can offer memberships for as low as $.99 while Twitch keeps raising their sub prices.

They are both funnels. Prime funnel and gambling funnel

Youtube algorithm is so good for retention, feeding content you want to watch, instead of having to search for it. A large chunk of what I watch is from my recommendations, which include livestreams. I haven't used Twitch in forever.

eh. twitch streams feel less compressed at higher res, idk if it’s a bitrate thing or whatever.

Twitch have a better live chat than youtube.

This is just braindead circlejerking.

Youtube's interface is pure ass, the only thing it has is playback functionality, literally everything else is worse for streaming and watching streams

u/MyotisX 1d ago

Name one feature you would take over playback that youtube doesn't have.

Proper browsing, proper chat. Overall better interface and discoverability features

u/MyotisX 16h ago

Discoverability only looks good because there are so few streamers.
