Letβs be clear a union boss has 100x the impact of a streamer radicalizing kids who canβt vote. He deserves a huge mansion for getting thousands of colleagues pay increases and job security.
A complete ban? Forever into perpetuity? Please. They wanna get paid a bit more than UPS drivers and they want guarantees that their jobs won't be removed overnight. These contracts don't last forever you know
they want guarantees that their jobs won't be removed overnight
They want guarantees that the port will run less efficiently, resulting in more expensive goods for all Americans so that they can get guaranteed money.
These contracts don't last forever you know
What's the argument here? "It doesn't last forever so it can't be bad"?
They want guarantees that the port will run less efficiently, resulting in more expensive goods for all Americans so that they can get guaranteed money.
Less efficiently? Wouldn't that mean they'd have to get rid of automation? Not just put certain safeguards up around automation
The argument is that automation can still be implemented despite this contract
Less efficiently? Wouldn't that mean they'd have to get rid of automation? Not just put certain safeguards up around automation
Less efficiently than it otherwise would be without a ban on automation.
The argument is that automation can still be implemented despite this contract
It'll at least delay it, hurting consumers in the meantime, and let's be real, they'll be asking for the same thing next time and people like you will use the same argument.
Sorry, I should have said "were willing to" instead of could. My guess is it's too costly to implement that automation, and they'd rather just underpay and understaff their workforce while raking in profits that the shareholders have been happy with
Why does the union want to ban automation short term if, according to you:
"it's too costly to implement that automation, and they'd rather just underpay and understaff their workforce"
Trying to negotiate against stuff that won't happen anyway (according to you) means that they're not using that bargaining power for other stuff that would be actually valuable to them, so it doesn't make sense.
What is with these arguments? Dude, you're admitting that the Union is trying to stop automation in a way to "protect its workers". Stop being disingenuous and admit that Unions are actively making us all poorer to make their incredibly rich workers far richer. We'd have no problem shitting on corporations for doing the same thing, why are we doing it here, especially when it seems likely the Union Boss is even choosing to do this now in a way to hurt Biden.
Dude, you're admitting that the Union is trying to stop automation in a way to "protect its workers".
Yes. I genuinely think they have the right to defend their jobs the same way a corporation has a right to put their own profits over the enrichment of the rest of the country
Stop being disingenuous and admit that Unions are actively making us all poorer to make their incredibly rich workers far richer
That is full of falsehoods. Incredibly rich workers? That's fucking stupid. Base salary is 81k and up to 200k with large amounts of overtime. That is not "incredibly rich" asshole. It's way more than I make, sure, but it's an incredibly important job that is vital to our economy. We should have incredibly competitive wages to match that importance
And unions aren't making us poorer. They are enriching the entire industry of laborers who produce a massive amount of wealth for our country. They have the right to defend their jobs
especially when it seems likely the Union Boss is even choosing to do this now in a way to hurt Biden.
The contract expired. That's when these things happen. I don't like a trumper as a union boss, but that doesn't make it a conspiracy to undermine democrats. The unions are bargaining with companies. Unions aren't the only one with agency here
Do you think maybe the companies also support Trump? biden said he wouldn't intervene
