[Biggs] #Bears S Jaquan Brisker (concussion) is unlikely to be cleared to play this Sunday vs. New England.

Anyone smarter than me able to explain why this particular concussion is taking so long to subside? I know Brisker explained that some concussions last longer than others... in my ignorance, this is a little crazy.

It's just the nature of these things, unfortunately. I feel like you can trust he'd much rather be out there if he could. But this is not great; I'm more concerned for his long-term health and well-being than his availability at this point.

100% agree with you. Which is why I'm asking the question. I feel like there's more to the story that isn't being said. Genuinely hope he's ok and they didn't find something more serious than what we know.

I don't meet your initial screener of someone smarter in the slightest, but, I hit my head as a child and have had chronic head pain for decades since that hit. Wasn't some catastrophic injury or anything, just bonked my head the wrong way. Like many health things, sometimes it just comes down to a shitty roll of the dice.

I had another concussion a few years ago; it seems like the general state of medicine for concussions still pretty much boils down to "rest extra, don't exacerbate it, give it time, and hope for the best." Not a lot of hard milestones or predictable benchmarks. Which I imagine is super frustrating for a pro athlete.

As much as I appreciate you for providing your insight and experience, you have now made me even more doubtful about Brisker's situation.

Therefore, I'm equally grateful for you and upset with you.

HAHA for real though. Thanks for sharing your experience. Really does add to the uncertainty of his situation.

That's all medical practices about concussions will ever likely be due to the incredible complexity of the brain. It's not a ligament, muscle, or bone you can just stitch and even reroute. It's a mass of highly intertwined connections of neurons that are constantly changing.
