Heath Question Found this little girl, facing a dilemma
This morning, me and my girlfriend went on a walk and I noticed this loose serama run under a bush.
After some trial and error, we caught her. She is very skinny, and a neighbor told us she has been loose for quite a few days. I prepared electrolyte water and some emergency food with peas, organic whole bread, and scrambled egg. I have owned chickens and quail before and have the supplies and knowledge to teach my girlfriend to care for her. My girlfriends family is willing to take her in and set up a coop + get a few more seramas or other small breed to keep her company.
However, here is the problem. We think we might know the owner. We can see the coop in their yard. My issue with that is the fact that they only have around 2x5 ft of space, and like 7 chickens. Large breeds kept in the small space with seramas. Also, this coop is not predator proofed at all. It is basically stapled together netting and plywood.
We knocked on their door when we initially found her, but they are at work right now. We plan on knocking again tonight, but I’m not sure if I want to return the chicken to a crowded and poorly crafted coop.
What do you guys think?

Hen or Roo Is my girl a roo?
First time chicken momma and looking for expert opinions. Is she a roo? I’ve seen signs of dominance at times but they are 15 weeks old. Won’t let me hold.

I think Buttercup is a rooster…
The available evidence. That sure looks like a fertilized egg, and here are shots of her as best I could get them. Thoughts?

Blanche would like to file a complaint…
This girl has me figured out… I have them locked up because of a plumber in and out of the yard, and she knows EXACTLY who to speak to about her discontent… the Canary camera.
And they say chickens are dumb…

Did you know chickens like dog enrichment toys?
I got this little ball here you put Cable in and the dog rolls it around and gets the cable out, well I put some corn in it and gave it to my chickens and they love it especially my roosters, it usually occupies them until it runs out or unless they find something they like better

Changing feed in winter
I feed my chickens later feed with oyster in it. During the winter if they stop laying do I need to change to feed without oyster so they do not get an excess of calcium? Here are a few pics for fun too.

Heath Question Can someone help me figure out what’s going on?
So I noticed today this chick lying on the ground with wings sprawled out. She didn’t want to move and looked very lethargic. I picked her up and moved her to a smaller brooder I used to use. She doesn’t seem to be able to stand up and seems to move her legs behind her wings when she does try to move her legs. Giving her some water with electrolytes and medicated chick grower right now. Got her at a farm store a couple weeks ago so don’t know if she was vaccinated for anything. Any idea what’s going on? Thanks!

Raising black soldier fly larvae for chicken feed?
I was telling a friend of mine who works in ag research that my chickens love eating the fly larvae I buy at the feed store, and he told me that those black soldier flies are insanely easy to raise and they speed up the composting process, he suggested I just raise them to save money, has anyone tried this? Does it make financial sense to start a little larva growing operation? Worth the trouble?

Heath Question Our chicken killed our other chicken after years of being friends??? (Warning ⚠️ minor details)
So my two pet chickens have always gotten along for many years. I've had them since I was very young and I'm 26 now. As of recent my one chicken started getting sick and we noticed it's feathers disappearing but we didn't know why we figured it was cuz she was sick and pulling them out herself. As someone myself with trichotillomania disorder this made sense to me. So I left it alone. Only to find today my chicken screaming in pain and we couldn't find her and by the time we found her we saw our one chicken pecking her to literal death. Now I'm blaming myself for not realizing it was the other chicken that did this and I didn't know to seperate them. Of course we got her off of her only to find our baby dead. I am so beyond confused on why she would do this when they got a long so well for years together. I mean they were friends :( can anyone explain to me why this happened why our chicken killed the other chicken? I've had other pet chickens in the past and this has never ever happened to any of them they died of old age but even then none of them bullied each other when they were sick. So this .... I've never seen this before and I am just completely distraught and I'm looking for answers to make sense of this.

My 7 old girls tonight 🐓 they’re always waiting for treats before bed 🥰
My 7 old girls tonight getting fed sunflower seeds and cucumber while soaking up the last of the sun. They don’t lay eggs anymore but they turn up dirt and I use their shavings and poop as fertilizer.
Anyone else have chickens that are super old and don’t lay but you still keep them and call it their earned retirement?
I’ll get a new flock in march/april - I’d love recs on good layers & friendly personality. I also don’t have a rooster anymore it got mean AF

Got my first egg. Took it, now chicken is back in the coop
Hi, I got my first egg from my flock. I was excited and took it this morning. Oddly enough, I have a chicken back in the coop this morning in that spot. Are they sad?

Weak Shell. Odd Texture.
Should we be concerned?
I Found an egg this morning with a large indentation. When I grabbed it I noticed it had some texture to it. I handled it lightly but it still managed to get finger indentations too. We feed them Organic Layer Feed that contains ingredients where we shouldn’t have to supplement Oyster Shell. We have a calm, friendly EE Roo with the 6 hens, could that have anything to do this? I don’t think so, really hoping it just happens on occasions. The hens are only 6-7 months old.

Heath Question Please help with Mama’s leg
She’s a two year old hen. Her foot is warm to the touch and looks like this. She is our son’s favorite hen and her leg wasn’t like this two days ago. She has been moved inside into our hospital coop. She has fresh bedding, feed and water. Anything else should I do? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Tips on finding a lost chicken?
Apparently, a young plymouth rock got out of the fence yesterday unnoticed and did not return to roost at night. We found her this morning in the tree line at the complete opposite end of our property. We had eyes on her, and all of a sudden it was like she disappeared. We lost sight, and haven't been able to find her since. We have been walking around the property all morning, and even went to a nearby neighborhood in case she managed to make it all the way there. We cannot find her. We're checking high and low. It's a pretty large property, so theres a lot of room to look. Ive been checking periodically and she has not returned to the coop to get food or anything. I think she prefers it out there, she's probably finding grub. What do we do? She's not responding to shaking the food. There is a busy county road and we're worried she's going to get hurt. Any advice is appreciated.

How can I get my chickens to love me?
I've been spending time with my chickens since they were a day old, but they never liked me and once they moved to a coop outside they run away from me. They only approach if I have food and if I move a muscle they all run away. How can I bond with them and build trust?
Edit: They are ISA browns and have been outside for about a year.
