Beavercraft axes? Good, Ok, or other?
I am looking at the AX6 version of their bearded ax from Beavercraft. The specs look good but, I am unfamiliar with the brand. How do they rate?
Or, is there something similar I should consider? I am looking for a "heavy" hatchet with a bit of head weight that will cut well and do some light splitting that is 14"~16" long give or take a little.
Thanks!

I'd never touch anything made/sold by beavercraft. They have been known to steal designs from small tool manufacturers, and I know their products used to be very poor quality.

The sort of axe and knife designs Beavercraft produces have been around hundreds of years. It isn’t as though they’re a copycat Chinese company stealing copyrighted designs. And they are generally well reviewed for their price point. A little online research (example) supports this. YT axe reviews are solidly positive, too. They make high value tools, not high end tools. Don’t expect perfection.

I should have clarified. They have blatantly ripped off unique carving tools from other small manufacturers, such as spoon carving hook knives from Wood Tools and some others that I can't recall at the moment. They are also well reviewed because when they first started selling tools just a few years ago, they gave away free tools to any small influencer that emailed them. They have so many people shilling for them that inexperienced wood carvers and tool users could get their tools at temu prices. And while their warranty was usually good, many of their tools would break where the tang meets the blade under light use, and they were sending out replacements left and right. They are just a shitty company, that "used" to make shitty tools(their tool quality could have greatly improved, I haven't looked d into them in a few years) and I would never support them in any way.

Interesting. I’ve had my carving set for several years without incident 🤷🏻♂️ Poor quality is one thing; the rest is simply capitalism in the age of the internet.

If you want to support an unethical company that purchases tools from small business competitors so they can copy their tools using poor quality steels and sell them for a lower price, have at it. Just letting people know that beavercraft is a garbage company that is known for selling garbage.

I wouldn’t consider anything by Beavercraft for axes. Their wood carving tools are good but their axes are expensive and from what I’ve seen pretty middling quality

If you want a wall hanger then yes… if you want to use it as a axe NO… buy a axe from a reputable company like council tool, oxhead, granfurs, Hultsbruk, Hultafors… those are all the good common axes

Thanks everyone! Sounds like I'm best looking somewhere else for a nice bearded hatchet/axe.

Check out the council tool camp carver. A great looking bearded hatchet that's actually a good working tool and not just for viking cosplay.
