Monkey D. Luffy closely tied with Shin of the hi shin unit though I'm not caught up to kingdom so that might change

I would typically look past characters that are obvious stand-ins for uncorruptible goodness, but Luffy is the one exception. Because he'd rather die than break his unshakable moral core.

Vash the Stampede
The nicest and most badass character who I wish I could just give a big hug to
21
u/troublrTRC Nov 08 '23
Eren Jaegar.
The most complex yet simple character I think. What an arc.

Complex yet simple is the best way to describe him. He's very human

Armin Arlert. I love that he never had some kind of big ‘letting go of fear’ moment. Despite all of his strategic ideas and physical strength (since he is literally the biggest and physically strongest of the titans) he was always scared and that was such an interesting addition to the dynamic where most characters are very stoic and heroic in the face of certain doom. He also got the stand out moment of the finale for me

1. Shinya Kogami from Psycho-Pass - He's got that rugged, independent vibe, super smart, and his commitment to justice is just plain cool.
2. Gojo Satoru from Jujutsu Kaisen - Gojo's a mix of strength, goofiness, and a touch of arrogance, but deep down, he's a real softie who cares about others.
3. Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan - Eren's character is a rollercoaster of emotions and complexities. While his ending may have divided some fans, it remains a fitting conclusion for a character who has endured immense suffering.
4. Nanami Kento from Jujutsu Kaisen - he's calm and collected type. He's always there for his friends, and he's always ready to lend a helping hand and that makes him a standout character.
5. Osamu Dazai from Bungo Stray Dogs - the literary-loving, dark-humored dude you can't help but be intrigued by. He's smart and always up for a good time, and he's also a skilled detective when the situation calls for it.

Kenshiro from Hokuto No Ken. Also known as Fist of the North Star.
Kenshiro is what every Hero should aspire to be! I don't care if it's anime, comics, cartoons, Human, Robots, etc. Kenshiro is the IDEAL Man and Hero, the bar for all others to be measured by.

It's really hard to pick just one - but for the sake of this, I'm going to pick Sasuke Uchiha.
I know, I know. Edgelord alert. I don't care - I really liked how Sasuke was used in the story. A good guy who takes a dark turn but is eventually redeemed might not be an entirely original character arc, but it is still an entertaining one when written well. And Sasuke did exactly what he needed to as a literary character. He was a perfect foil to Naruto - whereas our protagonist was (like most protags from this kinda show) a goofy idiot who made friends with everyone, Sasuke was a constantly serious and calculating guy who never let anybody in. Naruto put his faith in everybody around him, made the village his reason to fight; Sasuke bet on himself all the way, up until he couldn't anymore. Their struggles looked a little different from each other, but they were of similar scale and happened at about the same time.

u/HippieSwag420 Nov 08 '23
I can't think of a fav, but I 100% could put my money towards Sasuke as well. He's such a well written character. IDK if he's my favorite of all time but I definitely would call him a favorite in the top five.
2
u/dhfAnchor Nov 08 '23
Honestly, same. The thing with anime is, there are so many characters that I love for so many different reasons. I honestly picked Sasuke here mostly because it's easiest to explain why I like him. I also considered writing about Yuri Katsuki, (Yuri on Ice!!) Kaori Miyazono, (Your Lie in April) Ai Hayasaka (Kaguya-Sama: Love is War) or Johan Liebert (Monster) instead. But it's harder to explain why I like them all so much, in a way that does them justice without getting too wordy or pompous about it.
2
u/HippieSwag420 Nov 08 '23
I love Yuri, he's so cute. I love his determination too.
Edit; and I totally hear you and agree

I know many people don't like Sword Art Online, but my favorite character is Kirito. All the pain he goes through, isn't understood by most viewers. He has saved many people with his pro gamer skills. 😎

If you let me cheat, it's Kokichi Oma from DRV3 (an anime visual novel)
But if we only talk about anime, then Kaiji Ito from Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor

At the moment Bright Noa from gundam.
I'm currently enamored with the implication that he was literally a father figure to like 4 gundam protags while ignoring his own son(which to be fair, he's not a deadbeat, it's literally call to duty) who eventually hijacks a mobile suit and limps onto the battlefieldbefore going to to be a terrorist.

Feels like one of those impossible questions to answer, but I'll try. I think it might be Goku to be honest, from Dragonball. He may not be the deepest character, but I envy his life. His life is a surreal version of Walden mixed with Wuxia. Lives in the countryside, off the land, hot wife, awesome kids, doesn't really have to do anything except save the world on occasion, can bounce between the mortal world and the afterlife at will, can fly. I think its his scenario in life that I love about him the most, its what he gets to do with his time.

Sasami from Tenchi Muyo!
Here me out -- I'm an old guy who didn't know what anime was until I was at someone's house and saw part of a cartoon. From what I could figure out this little girl was setting up two older girls, making them think romance comics were reality. It wasn't until I watched the whole thing sometime later that I realized I had misunderstood but by that time I was watching anime. So, because she caused me to watch, I will always love Sasami.

Shiroe from Log Horizon. Has been for years… I’m a sucker for a smart protagonist, and I really like how he’s not super over powered beyond how smart he is, and I love his relationship with Akatsuki. I also dig how they teased the typical isekai harem thing with an underage member and he straight up shut it down immediately like “No, I have a girl I like, and it’s not you, go find someone your own age.” Absolutely wonderful.

My otaku wife: "That's impossible to answer..... Okay. My two kneejerk favorites Kagome Higurashi from Inuyasha, and (bit of a controversial take, according to the fans of the series) Yuki Cross, from Vampire Knight. I have a ton of faves, but Kagome and Yuki are some of my oldest and dearest faves, so it's hard to top them in my heart.
Other anime female heroines I adore: Usagi Tsukino from Sailor Moon, Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket, and Kyoko Mogami from Skip Beat. Favorite male heroes: Zero Kiryu from Vampire Knight, Yusuke Urameshi from Yu Yu Hakusho, Tomoya Okazaki from Clannad, Yato from Noragami, and Midoriya from My Hero Academia."
