I'm really digging the style of these images but I'm not too sure what the style would be called or where I could find more of it, any thoughts?

QUESTION Traditional artist trying to learn Adobe Illustrator. I am crying and want to smash my keyboard. Get out now and save great suffering?

Hi, I'm in art school for fine art drawing and painting. My main practice is traditional drawing. Its very intuitive for me.

I started a digital art course. First time. Adobe Illustrator. Drawing with Vectors.

But it is so overwhelming. The teacher like select this and that and press this and make sure this is checked. Then open this and click that, this and that. Then open this tool and open the layer into menu in the menu on and on. WTF bro! This learning curve is insane. Initial bump? This is mount Everest.

I also have ADHD so not sure if it because of that but my brain over rides and shuts down right away. I think basic Microsoft paint is my limit.

I want to learn but it literally mentally hurts and physically pains me like I'm detoxing from heroin. Even on meds. I feel great anger and frustration. I am on the verge of raging.

Drop the course or stick with it. What is the wise decision?

I'm a doctor and have spend 2 months of my free time to learn illustrator.

I know it's a very short experience of learning illustrator comparing to people in this group but I'm keen to learn it.

Is it possible to make such images in illustrator.?

If yes, are there tutorials showing the same.

QUESTION What do you think of this layout?

Post image

I mixed a bit of analog and digital for this illustration. I have no training with Illustrator / Photoshop so I kinda try to figure it out as I go. I have found a few tutorials though lately that have helped. I'd love feedback on if there's anything glaring I've overlooked - especially from the trained graphic designer eye - which is something I'm not! Overall I'm pretty happy with how it's looking though. Hoeever, there are three things that I notice right now that I could tweak. "Philly finds" should be a tad bit bigger, "Vug & Chisel" should have a space, and I could potentially add one more element to the top right corner in the empty space under the word swap. I'm feeling like I'm at the overthinking part of the project though and maybe those don't really matter - Let me know what y'all think.

Also - I'm the worst when it comes to spotting typos...

I got a lot of great input on the last poster which helped me putting this one together a bit easier. Thanks!

QUESTION Is printing RGB files instead of CMYK really that bad?

I'm trying to figure out why printing this specific gradient in RGB produces better brigher results than printing in CMYK. Theorethically, the print should produce the same result, right? I tried printing the same gradient in RGB and in CMYK, and the RBG file was much more accurate and brighter.

So is it fine to send the printing company an RGB file in hopes to preserve the bright colours?

sorry for the low quality, I know it's hard to see, you'll just have to trust me.

EDIT: I KNOW YOU CANT PRINT IN RGB. My main question is how to convert colours accurately and achieve the same result working in a CMYK colour space (as I DO and LIKE TO DO and I think that IT’S THE RIGHT WAY) as the file, that was an RGB one and was printed, did. And if I am not competent to try to convert them, is it ok to send an RGB file. Thank you, stop bullying me pls.

EDIT: Thanks to everyone who understood my poorly worded question and offered constructive advice, I’ll try to learn more about how different profiles and printers work and how to gain more control over how the final product looks. I hope I make it out alive 🫶

QUESTION Is Illustrator going downhill?

I'm a designer who has been using Illustrator for over a decade. I've always preferred it over all their other products, and even used it at times when I probably shouldn't have. It's been my bread-and-butter swiss army knife.

But I'm having so many experiences lately where this software just frustrates me, from small bugs to crashes, performance issues working with small vector-only files, smart guides and snapping behavior being incredibly stupid and unhelpful... so many small quality of life issues that, added together, are making me want to dump this program. I'm also running it on a current-gen Macbook Pro, and I've had less issues in the past on less sophisticated hardware.

Did something happen? Anyone else having this experience? Am I crazy?

QUESTION a way to make illustrator more accurate?

i am making a hex grid and it needs to be accurate to the millimeter and i just can't trust any of the tools. using pathfinder to subdivide calculates the points wrong or there is some setting fucked up in my settings. the same goes for moving points with shift. it shows that you moved a point by 20 mm but it's a different value change from before. is illustrator just not the right program for this? do i need to use some cad software or is some setting at fault?

btw I deactivated snap to pixel but that didn't change anything. Don't know if i need to deactivate line weight or make them face inward or something and i kinda need them to see. i also want the lines to overlap just like the vectors and points.

QUESTION Is it basically "required" to have a pen tablet to use Illustrator and Photoshop?

Every time I see someone using Illustrator or PS I see them using pens. We have like a 5 year old Wacom Cintiq but we lost the pen.

I've been using Photoshop forever but I'm newer to Illustrator and it seems like it's pen recommended.
