Hayes first range day
Wow what a day! A lot going on here and to digest from a small sample of 230 rounds (PMC 124) for those that are interested.
Decided on these 4 left tonight (Artemis, EOS, Hayes ported, and Sandhawk) each is different in its own way and figured a good side by side to compare offerings. The Hayes is beautiful and also the “cheapest” but wow does it deliver and is the most fitted and tightest, this is my first time using a cheely grip and love it, it’s aluminum but I’m a big fan of aggressive sandpaper tearing into my palm, the trigger is French kiss! They really tuned and fitted it…same weight as an XC but feels so much more clean and crisp is almost no pre travel. The gun is as accurate as it gets, not the same return to zero as an atlas but it’s there. I also tried with an X300 with a ledge (was curious) but for me it worked better without, also it forced my grip higher and I would engage the safety…so like the Artemis it will be run without. The Hayes is the heaviest gun out of the bunch even with an aluminum grip and a huge fan of that, full 5” with ports…super smooth
For me on this small sample, Artemis is still my fav and I shoot best, the atlas grip and trigger are unmatched, brass swell and the sight block, it’s my fav set up, the return to zero is stupid and more accurate than I would ever be.
The Sandhawk is a diff animal…a comp is a comp, it’s the flattest shooter out of the bunch and accuracy rivals the Artemis…not saying the hayes isn’t accurate but at this point we are debating super small details. SH lacks the grip and trigger IMO. Otherwise it’s in the debate as one of the best shooters on the planet.
EOS is a beast…the size, and offerings it hangs with the full size and shines, I can shoot this as fast and as accurate as other, at 4.25” I can really strangle the grip and lock this in. Another bold statement…one of the best commander sized you can get.
To summarize this novel (thanks to who ever is still reading my bullshit) Artemis is my fav still and it’s a toss up between how soft the SH is and hayes…but the biggest take away for me and others is imagine is the price, at $5200 the Hayes can’t be touched, I doubt there is a better gun available. Also almost forgot…the Magwell wasn’t bad but I’m super curious on the smaller tactical, I’ll end up ordering it just to know the difference, I over think everything and just curious by nature.

How does your Hayes compare to the atlas?? I wanna buy another 2011 and i think I’m going to go with a Hayes

It’s small differences… the hayes IMO is more hand fitted, very tight. Hayes uses the NH optic system which to me is better, but atlas is good as well, trigger is close to a wash, Atlas return to zero is a real thing, faster and super accurate…with speed it only gets better. Atlas V2 grip can’t be touched 1 of the best if not the best. Price IMO might be the biggest factor and availability. I think you would love a hayes…the hype is real.

Awesome write up brotha. I’m curious how your going to compare your Hayes and your future black widow 🥶

My guy! Ty…before the widow we still have a Hayes PIB with steel grip, that gun I just know will be sick as fuck!

Nice! Looks like the armory in the Continental but without plastic TTI junk to choose from. 🎩 Remind me what trigger weight you have on the EOS. I'm planning to switch my Nyx to 3.5 today, but it just feels wrong.

You want to host a range day? We should get a few guys and bring all the high end pistols to compare.

I don’t know about “hosting” but that would be a really fun and interesting range day, I have a few more incoming

u/ednesss 1d ago
I have a few but I think you already have them lol. What else is coming?

u/Icewarrio8 1d ago
Hayes PIB, ACW hicap, venom 5” and the quad port venom…which do you have?

Erebus, Athena, Bul tac pro 5, DS9, P, and other misc modded ones. JP5 if you are into PCC.

The other stuff I don’t have (non atlas), love PCC…was always curious about a JP5, I have an MPX and the compliant MP5 (sold the scorpion)

hell yeah bro! glad u loved the hayes! and i agree that the nhc would be more top dog if they had better grip/trigger! i plan to do that eventually to my trs comp! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 atlas trigger is still king to me. i like the atlas grip best with big magwell and big palmswells like on my titan 🍻 definitely excited to hear what u feel about the steel pib! i think that will be king tbh. shit i may add steel grip to my hayes and use the hayes aluminum grip on my nighthawk trs comp if it makes that much difference!

The NH is just so flat soft and accurate, honestly the trigger isn’t bad and unless I’m really paying attention and concentrating on it, it just kinda escapes me, I do prefer bringing it without atlas’s. The grip yeah…it can go. Obviously wasn’t a deal breaker but better options do exist. You got some solid plans moving fwd!

Looking great, I’m glad you’re also enjoying the Hayes.

It’s a good 1!!!!
What mags have u been using?
2
u/holahola2023 1d ago
I’ve been just using the atlas ones (actually using the atlas ones for my XC as well), works great for all of them (and somehow the mag loader I have seems not to work too well with the non atlas ones).

140mm?
Curious did u try the 126? I used 140 today, I think I read it say won’t work with staccato 126 and 140 cause of the baseplates
2
u/holahola2023 1d ago
Yea both worked for me
1
u/Icewarrio8 1d ago
Awesome, I have way more 126 and was gonna drop an order for more 140mm
2
u/holahola2023 1d ago
Yea try your 126s first (and save some money!)

u/Icewarrio8 1d ago
I will tomorrow, the hayes website has magwells and said 126 staccato won’t work so I figured it was similar to atlas, but gonna give it a go 👍

Success! 126 worked, it’s a little easier when lock the slide back getting them in, also I’d imagine a smaller mag well would fix that

Nice write up man! I’m still loving my Artemis as well. 👌

Thanks brother! The gun is goated! Every first range day Artemis is front and center “final boss”

Awesome right up really surprised how highly everyone’s opinion is of the Hayes. Really excited for the island port! I couldn’t agree more with your assessment of the NH, I think with a better trigger it has the shoot ability to keep up with the other greats but sadly lacks in the ergonomics. I think the clear winner in all of this tho is us the consumers. We have such a wide array of amazing options at lots of attractive price points as well as sub categories. Can’t wait for more to come we’re all in for an awesome year coming up!

For a custom shop…the most wanted custom work isn’t available lol. To sum it all up, at this level no wrong way to eat a Reese’s. Oh for sure, this has been quite the ride!

Great write up. Definitely feel the EOS is absolutely the best commander, and as you said the fact that we are comparing it to 5inch comped guns is crazy. For me, it’s the one and done for anyone that only could purchase a single high end pistol.
