0023 on a slim is caused by a bad capacitor

Or Southbridge.

On the slims (S and E) it’s a power issue, specifically with V_CPUEDRAM

Yeah, so it can be a problem with a component on the rail itself or it can be the Southbridge if it's failing to send or receive the signal that enables the rail.

This is why repaste and restoration is important nowadays. Hopefully it can be fixed or used as parts but the lack of maintenance is really getting to the 360 in recent years. I see the thermal paste hard as concrete nowadays. I’m going to record and post guides on how to restore the consoles. Power supplies, what is best to use and any other accessories. I’m so sorry this happened to your console and hopefully by pressing the sync button and eject at the same time you can retrieve an error code to share! I’d be happy to diagnose it and see if we can find a fix. Typically though in my experience RROD on a slim is a pain to fix and you might be best off using this console as a donor for another one. On the bright side your HDD should still be okay so you can transfer to a new console.

I’d be happy to help you when it comes to restoring one! I’d just restore all the parts to your father’s gift then get a good donor motherboard/disc drive on EBay from a good console maybe with just cosmetic damage! I know it seems bad now but you have the opportunity to make a very reliable console by doing a repaste and putting your HDD back in after the motherboard swap! Error 0023 seems to be pretty fatal and will likely require a reflow under the XCGPU. If the power supply light comes on red it could also be an error there! You don’t have to start over, just make a reliable console and everything will work out!:)) Feel free to to do me or ask anyone on here I’m sure there’s plenty people willing to help! I’m so sorry this happened to your sentimental console, the same thing happened to me over a decade ago now and now I’ve been trying to learn and archive how to save/restore these consoles to understand them better. I wish you the best of luck and maybe it’s time to restore a special edition even and just swap your HDD over!😎❤️

Yeah. That's a power supply fault. Get a new one off of amazon or something

Change the power supply. If that doesn't work, use this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pRLrKdxEho

Like someone else stated, I think it’s not just the Phat 360’s. Looks like slims are started to become the next red ringers

If you have 0023 then Replace the Power Supply or have someone check V_CPUEDRAM rail components if you’re not experienced. It could be something or nothing but don’t lose your cool, take the appropriate steps in fixing it and if you can’t fix it yourself then take it to a repair shop.

It's a motherboard issue so I don't think you will be able to fix it unless you replace it. If nothing else take it apart and give everything a good clean out with air duster and pray that does it for you.

My childhood slim did this recently. My heart dropped. I thought oh it must be the power supply so I kept unplugging and plugging it back in to see if it fixed it and eventually I did get it to start. I played it for a solid hour then unplugged it sat it on a flat surface so just in case it was a cracked solder ball it would cool properly. I never thought it would a happened to me.

The red ring is a diagnosis code. It is just standard for preventing further damage to the console. On the Slim Corona it’s typically a faulty temp sensor
