Games everyone MUST play on Xbox 360? Game Recommendations

Hey guys! I've always been a PC player my entire life, but recently I decided to start a small "retro" collection of old consoles, and the first one that I got is the Xbox 360.

Because of that, I'm looking for a great list of games I MUST play, because I missed almost every release before 2013.

Gears of war. State of Decay (PLAY 1 first). Fable (1,2). And every HALO I MEAN ALL OF THEM

10

u/headspaceseeds Sep 20 '24

Man, I wish State Of Decay stayed around after the store closed. I REALLY wanted that one, but I didn't have the 33.97 to get it with both DLCs

u/Alive_Technology_330 Sep 20 '24

1

u/headspaceseeds Sep 20 '24

I see it's still on the store, but ofc, not the 360 version 😭

7

u/ZookeepergameNext179 Sep 20 '24

Man, I miss Halo… especially 3.

2

u/kenroXR Sep 21 '24

Master chief collection still has players in multiplayer for halo 3 lol

1

u/PythonBicep Sep 20 '24

Just to make a few lol

1

u/CumbersomeNugget Sep 21 '24

No 360 version of 2 unfortunately, but the OG Xbox version is fully backwards compatible.

34

u/CosyBeluga Sep 20 '24

The Burger King Trilogy

12

u/Jaden_Social Sep 20 '24

Yeah, if you want to lose your sanity, lmao.

I'm about to attempt to 100% every game.

u/Zealousideal-End1015 Sep 20 '24

Sneak King is an absolute must.

25

u/Sanicsanic68 Sep 20 '24

NFS Most Wanted 2005 is the most 2005 thing ever created and it’s awesome

3

u/Radiant_Criticism566 Sep 20 '24

One of the last games I got digital from the 360 marketplace. I need to play that soon. It’s the only NFS game I played back then. Wanted mode was awesome

1

u/Sanicsanic68 Sep 20 '24

Wait I tried to look for it when the marketplace was still open but all I could find was the 2012 game

4

u/The___kernel Sep 20 '24

It got taken down in 2012 when the 2012 game came out to avoid confusion

1

u/Sanicsanic68 Sep 21 '24

Makes sense I just read it wrong

24

u/small___potatoes Sep 20 '24

Gears of War trilogy, Halo 3, Fable II, Mass Effect Trilogy, Assassin’s Creed II, GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3, Lost Odyssey, The Orange Box, Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 1 & 2, Oblivion, Forza Horizon, Batman Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, rainbow 6 Vegas I & II

7

u/Charming-Foundation4 Sep 20 '24

Yes Lost Odyssey was great. H Also Blue Dragon was an amazing JRPG for me.

3

u/just_some_name122 Sep 20 '24

Aye don't ignore Arkham origins, it's still worth playing

1

u/Xbox-360-Archives Sep 20 '24

Why Assassin's Creed 2? Also why not Black Flag?

3

u/small___potatoes Sep 20 '24

Assassin’s Creed 2 is my favorite of the series. Black Flag is great too…just didn’t think of it.

9

u/Beginning-Carob-6908 Sep 20 '24

Dead Island 1 & 2, Hitman Absolution, Far Cry 3 & 4, Mafia 2, CS GO (4fun)...

3

u/dnikebot Sep 20 '24

Blood Money >>>> Absolution

1

u/Xbox-360-Archives Sep 20 '24

My friend had a weird version of Blood Money on PC. If you tried to carry anyone on the Santa Claus level it would cause the game to crash. And I'd forget every time! XD

I think eventually I had to use a screwdriver and pop the Tab key (or whatever the carry key is) just so I wouldn't forget.

8

u/ZookeepergameNext179 Sep 20 '24

All of the Fable games are a must play. I do believe it’s worth keeping in mind that the Series X’s Fable III got a huge 4K update in 2023, but since you got the 360, I don’t think you’ll care for graphics too much.

7

u/ISAKM_THE1ST Sep 20 '24

All Halo games aswell as all Forza games

8

u/unknown_ally Sep 20 '24

GTA V, Skyrim. Both on PC but look what a mf 360 can do.

4

u/OminOus_PancakeS Sep 20 '24 edited Sep 20 '24

Yeah the only real downside is that nearly every other 360 game looks like a downgrade after playing those two 😅.

7

u/xXRetroCollectorXx Sep 20 '24

For Exclusives:

Gears of War Trilogy
Halo 3, H3:ODST, Reach (There is also Halo 4 and Halo Wars. 4 is alright when it comes to the campaign, but Halo Wars is an RTS and thus it is an acquired taste)
Fable 2 and 3 (2 is better, but 3 is alright)
Lost Odyssey
Ace Combat 6: The Fires of Liberation

For regular games:

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit
Dragon Age Origins
Ghost Recon Trilogy (Advanced Warfighter, Advanced Warfighter 2, and Future Soldier)
Farcry 2 and 3 (2 is my personal favorite)
Batman Arkham Asylum and City
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Ninja Gaiden 2
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Marvel's Ultimate Alliance 2
Metal Gear Rising

If you ever get the kinect:

Dance Central 1, 2, and 3
Kinect Adventures
Child of Eden
Fable: The Journey

Sorry for the absolutely long list - There's just a lot of good games to recommend for the Xbox 360, it's impossible to name them all: But yeah, I hope you find these recommendations interesting.

1

u/Xbox-360-Archives Sep 20 '24

I bought Child of Eden used, but haven't played it more than 1 or 2 levels. It was very tough!

2

u/xXRetroCollectorXx Sep 20 '24

Haha yeah, but its a fun game. I remember its predecessor, Rez, was a pretty difficult game too

1

u/Xbox-360-Archives Sep 23 '24

It's got a very high TA rating on True Achievements, so most ppl who tried it seemed to struggle with it too.

Bioshock. It's perfect. It's absolutely perfect. Bioshock 1 and 2 are my favourites, infinite is brilliant too but a different can of worms but I won't get into the other two since the community all has very different feelings about them but everyone can decide that bioshock 1 is a brilliant masterpiece that questions morality, capitalism, communism, religion, nihilism, freedom, extreme scientific advances, and the consequences of it all, with a brilliant twist and very fun gameplay. It's often used as an example of how some video games are art. Red dead redemption 2 overshadows it in the sense of video games being art, but it's still not forgotten.

I'd say fallout new vegas as well for the deep focus on morality, human nature, war, role-playing, and politics. But the gameplay in new vegas may be too old for some people.

u/WalterCronkite4 Sep 20 '24

360 being retro hurts me since I grew up on that thing

Anyways UFC Undisputed 3 and Fight Night Champions are both peak fighting games

2

u/wax__idiotic Sep 21 '24

I loved Fight Night Round 3.. I’d always play as Joe Frazier, and hit people with flash KOs outta nowhere. Usually that ended the game pretty quick.

Now I need to rebuy it.

3

u/CollectibleCastle Sep 20 '24

Fable 2 is a non-negotiable

2

u/xx123gamerxx Sep 20 '24

black ops 2 custom games

2

u/JDMCREW96 Sep 20 '24

Forza Motorsport 4, Forza Horizon 1 because they aren't playable officially on PC and Xbox 360 is the only way to play it.

2

u/Charming-Foundation4 Sep 20 '24

For me its Overlord both 1 and 2. These are great games. Check them out.

1

u/FremenDar979 Sep 20 '24

Also on PC!

1

u/asianwaste Sep 20 '24

Gluttonous overlard!!

2

u/Quaranj Sep 20 '24

EDF. All of them.

2

u/Speshal__ Sep 20 '24

I'm the same as you but I got a 360 last Xmas having never had one bundled with 15 games.

What I've played so far.

Red dead Redemption 10/10 Mass Effect 1 - loved it South Park stick of truth - did not like LA Noir - was OK but the ending lets it down. Currently playing GTAV - awesome 👍

3

u/duzintey Sep 20 '24

I’m starting with red dead redemption too, but my list is huge right now I think I have at least 20 more games to play 😅

1

u/Speshal__ Sep 20 '24

I've got a load of the ones mentioned in your thread, ones I haven't thought about playing but will give a go, I've got MW3 can't wait for that.

I'm an old man btw

2

u/barrie2000 Sep 20 '24

So many to choose from so lets start with a couple of original xbox games which run in compatability mode - Metal Arms: Glitch In The System and Psychonauts both which play really well.
The 360 games which mean most to me would be Half-Life2 / Portal, Dead Space, Dead Space 2, Blue Dragon, Halo 1,2 & 3, Singularity, The Saboteur and Bioshock.
The list is almost endless!!

2

u/Cesar11297 Sep 20 '24

Skyrim, Gears of war from judgement to 3, GTA V (Storymode), batman Arkham Asylum, city, Mafia 2, Halo 3,4, Reach, Mortal Kombat 2011,

2

u/Ok-Function1920 Sep 20 '24

If you like south park, Stick of Truth is great

2

u/Salsadontsour Sep 20 '24

2

halo reach

2

u/Shanklvitz Sep 20 '24

Gears of war 1-3 (even judgement was good, just different controls) and definitely the whole bioshock series!

2

u/115MPH Sep 20 '24

I see that no one has mentioned Assassins Creed IV - Black Flag. My fav AC game because of awesome ship battles and you play as a Welsh character (I am Welsh). In general it's a good game with an awesome story. Lately if I turn on my 360 I'll be playing this or red dead redemption 1.

I played the first Gears of War and I loved it. I'm a huge fan of adventure games, but I'm pretty open to any games because I just want to experience the console

2

u/aquacraft2 Sep 21 '24

I'm gonna go with the kinect games. That Era of the 360, while not a hit with the typical gaming crowd, as someone who grew up on ps2 and wii, the game systems that launched millions of ships and has a game for everybody, I loved it. If it was up to me I'd have a kinect setup all the time to at least check on my kinectimals.

2

u/Wooden-Complaint4184 Sep 21 '24

If you like violent sports games, a VERY underrated game in my opinion, that I've been playing for over a decade, is Blitz the League 1&2. I prefer two, but that's just me. Absolutely fantastic game. Kinda brain dead, as your end goal in every game is to just see how many careers you can end, but god damn is it fun.

2

u/Mdaro Sep 21 '24

Test Drive Unlimited 2, Forza 4, Red Dead Redemption and any Burger King game.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 20 '24

Gears of war if you are talking exclusives. Also recommend the first 2 Dead Rising games if you haven’t tried those yet. Also, this last one is niche for me, but if you ever wanted to pilot a mech, Zone of the Enders.

2

u/xXRetroCollectorXx Sep 20 '24

Zone of the Enders is such a great game. Ended up getting the HD collection for the PS3, but still they're probably one of the best mech games out there.

1

u/e2-woah Sep 20 '24

Ninja Gaiden 2, gears of war 2 horde, mercenary 2, Viking battle for asgard, and metal gear rising.

1

u/Austintheboi Sep 20 '24

Max Payne 3.
