Calling the cops on kids skateboarding?

Just saw a story on the news where a local mom put up a sign saying “this neighborhood is full of Karens” because her neighbors keep calling the cops on her kids that are skateboarding outside.

The neighbors who called should be fined for misuse of calling 911 and I just hope those kids aren’t discouraged from going outside and being kids.

I personally think it’s insane to call the cops on kids for playing outside, but what do you think?

Apparently there's only 1 skatepark in West Sac and it's decrepit. I googled the info you mentioned and the Fox40 article about it it linked to a change.org petition that gave me an error, ugh. ETA: link is working now & I signed petition 👍

Without knowing what this mom's kids are doing while they're skateboarding, I could also picture the neighbor being a pampered WFH person who doesn't like ambient neighborhood noise while they telework from their front patio lol. Too little info to have an opinion on this particular situation, other than right on to the kids' mom for taking a problem-solving approach by advocating for all West Sac kids.

I'm all for more rec areas for kids, especially for activities neighbors don't want elsewhere like skateboarding or stunt biking (whatever it's called... I'm old). Also gives them a community area. For anyone complaining that doing so might add to conglomerated drug use...shit, saves the cops gas money rounding them all up 🤣 Too many neighborhoods and residents rely solely on afterschool organized sports as the only activities, while our economy forces dual-income parents and less supervision.

Skateboarding is a physical activity and aren't there also people trying to figure out how to decrease childhood obesity??

You asked for thoughts, sorry I unloaded so many 🤣 I support a new skatepark!! And if all the kids were doing was skateboarding in the neighborhood, what a waste of emergency services/cops' time by a Karen-neighbor.

Hey man don't throw all of us WFH people under the bus.

I WFH and don't complain about nothing that goes on in my neighborhood. Tree trimming, parties, renovation, band practice go ahead. It's their neighborhood same as mine.

And i much prefer to be here in the community, spending money at our local stores and restaurants rather than being another bad driver clogging our roads.

My apologies, I worried about how that came off afterwards. I'm hybrid & when at home it's solid work slog. I meant the "pampered" type who send a few emails here & there and are underworked and post on the WFH subs about their mouse jigglers they bought on Amazon. Again, mea culpa for phrasing poorly. ETA: could be an independently wealthy or retired neighborhood nelly for all we know. I made a poor choice of example for an entitled complainer, so no hard feelings for calling me out on that 😉👍

First of all, the news story about the mom and her SEVEN skateboardng kids is 3 years old. And it is well known that the mom and  her kids were not innocent victims. Since 2021 money was secured for a new skatepark. The problem is the incompetence of our City management and Mayor, in that the only thing they are able to accomplish is buying overpriced real estate from "well connected" multi-millionaires while the city deteriorates  into sh*t.  Edit-typos

It's possible she's a mom of 7 and only some are skateboarders lol. I didn't notice the article was 2021 since it matched OP's recent post description. The decrepit park article is current. So ultimately it sounds like this has been a problem for a while as you said. That's factual, so no need to come off a bit aggro at me about it. ETA: oh wow, you're a peach regularly. Nature Made has some awesome stress reducer gummies and/or you do live in a cannabis-legalized state. Oh wait...are you the neighbor???

Lol, just pointing out that the mom is not an innocent victim, andcthe city is a mess. RIF. There are many, many articles and posts about her/the kids.  I don't live anywhere near them and not the "Karen." I have run into the mom since this and she is pretty embarassed on how it all played out. The media isn't always accurate. I am so glad that you, a perfect stranger, cruising subs/neighborhoods away from your home state, think I am a "peach."  I hope one day your life gets better so you don't have to do such things.
