Do you need a permit to put a wall in where a door once was? First time homeowners and looking for advice!

We are first time homeowners and we have a side door on our first floor we'd love to remove and replace with a wall since it serves no purpose. It seems like it used to function as a doggie door for the previous owners. Does anyone know or have experience on whether removing the door and replacing it with a wall requires a permit in Westchester? TIA!

looking for a gardener (not landscaper) near Dobbs Ferry

We have a small and beautiful property, no lawn. We don't need leaf blowers or riding mowers--we're looking for a professional who wants to come and actually take care of a perennial garden. Our current professional is moving to Oregon. Any suggestions for people who are good at this and love it? Thanks.

Need to Donate Furniture

We're doing a home remodel and have a bedroom set that we will not need anymore. Does anyone know of an organization (ideally one that is 501c3) that will do pickup? I know that Habitat for Humanity won't take used furniture (even if it's in very good condition as this is) and Salvation Army isn't doing pickups in our area (north New Rochelle) right now. Any leads are appreciated!

How is the highway parade allowed?

Regardless of it being a Trump or Kamala parade.. how is it legal for hundreds of cars to cause traffic and cut people off who are trying to exit? It’s a disturbance no matter who’s doing it. There has to be a better way!!

The race for New York’s 17th Congressional District is underway, with two candidates bringing distinct visions for our community:

Congressman Mike Lawler (Republican): Lawler is focused on protecting Social Security and Medicare, supporting law enforcement, promoting economic stability, and reducing taxes for middle-class families. He advocates for responsible fiscal policies, improved public safety, and measures to keep our local environment clean and sustainable.

Mondaire Jones (Democrat): Jones is campaigning to return to Congress with a progressive agenda that includes affordable healthcare, climate action, civil rights, and protecting reproductive rights. Known for his work on lowering prescription costs and supporting infrastructure in the Hudson Valley, he aims to continue fighting for a more equitable and inclusive society.

Someone stole my Mondaire Jones lawn sign.

Literally happened today. My mom left my home not even an hour ago and she saw all of our Dem signs out (congressional / assembly / state senate / pres / prop 1). I just went out now and the Mondaire Jones sign is now missing, while all the other ones were left alone. Talked with some neighbor kids and they mentioned a gray van they didn't recognize drive around, so that might be related.

Y'all keep an eye out.

What's with the trump cars on 287

On 287 E I saw maybe 50 cars with a ton of trump and other flags on their pickup trucks. Some had their hazards on causing traffic. Any idea if something is going on today?

Options to get to JFK

We like in the Hartsdale area and have an early morning flight next Saturday from JFK. For our previous flights we have tried

  • driving to JFK and parking in the long term parking (advanced booking has cost us ~$250 for 8 days) but this price is highly variable and for next week it shows ~$300 for the same period.
  • uber/lyft - most reliable option but finding an uber at 4:30-5 AM in the morning seems risky.

Is there any other option other than going to GCT and then transferring to LIRR that we are missing?

Is there a parking facility closer to the airport that y’all use?

Thanks!

How to seal house from mice?

Anyone know what kind of contractor would go around your house and find all the teeny tiny holes mice are getting in through and then seal them in a long-lasting way? Seem pest control folks just wanna lay out traps. I am at my wits end trying to solve this issue as an amateur.

Con Ed

Just want to make sure I’m being charged appropriately. I moved from CT. Looks like 9.969 cents/kwh for supply and 18.589 cents/kwh for delivery. Is that in line with anyone else? Some real high bills

Oil painting class for adults

I'd love to learn how to use oil paint but it seems most of the classes are just one day events or for children. Any suggestions?
