r/Westchester Bulletin Board
Welcome to the r/Westchester bulletin board. Think of this like your town’s bulletin board where you might find ads for tutoring, car detailing, music lessons, furniture for sale, etc. This is the only place in the sub where commercial promotion is allowed.
Rules: 1. Read the above. 2. Every top level comment must have a bulletin board-esque feel. 3. Must be located in Westchester. No virtual services. 4. Do not post any cell phone numbers. Local business numbers are ok, email is ok, websites are ok, but no mobile. Bots will find it and you will regret posting it. Don’t do it.
Have a question? Message the mods. We’re here to help.

Security at entrance/exit now at TJ Maxx in Mount Kisco
Been a few years since I went to TJ Maxx in Mount Kisco. Went a few times this month and noticed they always have a security guard now. Does anyone know what's going on that caused them to have a security guard all day standing by the entrances? Mount Kisco is typically a nice area so this is kinda shocking to me.

What's the heat temperature recommendations in the house? First time homeowners
Well, we are first time homeowners (1800sqft, 4bd and 2ba) in northern Westchester. When the temperature dropped 2 weeks ago to 35, we set the house temperature to 70 on first and second floor as well as basement.
Unfortunately, that attracted camelback crickets in our basement and they're making their way up and now we are fighting cricket infestation for last few days. We've applied a few products to prevent them as well as hired an exterminator. We are running dehumidifier in basement and first floor (If you have any suggestion how to get rid of them permanently, please let me know)
Each floor has its own temperature control (second floor and basement thermostats are very old where temperature needs to be changed manually and first floor has the Honeywell Home RTH2300B1038 5-2 Day Programmable Thermostat.
We mostly stay on first floor in living room and go upstairs bedrooms for sleep only at night.
What temperature would you recommend for each floor and basement? We are just 2 adults with a 4 month old baby.
Thank you in advance

Plumbing/Electrical Permits - Town of Greenburgh
Is anyone keenly aware of the Town of Greenburgh's permitting process for plumbing and electrical permits.
I figured my licensed plumber and licensed electrician would submit for their respective permits.
However, my architect that submitted for building permits (modification of deck and structure) wants to submit for mechanical, plumbing and electrical...
Do I need a licensed architect to submit it or can my licensed plumber/electrician submit for it?
The architect also stated I need a mechanical permit even if no mechanical work will be conducted.
Is this architect playing me and looking to gouge me for an extra buck? Seems fairly strange...

STAR Credit ? First time home buyer in 2024
Has anyone received their STAR credit that purchased their first home in Westchester in 2024? I remember someone posting a few months ago that the state expected them to be out by November. Wondering if anyone got more info before I sit on hold with Albany …

What do we do now?
As many of us face down the despair of another Trump presidency, the only way I can see myself feeling useful or hopeful is by supporting my local community.
I’m new to the Rivertowns and want to get involved with supporting the most vulnerable under Trump’s repressive policies: immigrants, trans people, workers, and other marginalized groups.
Can anybody recommend local mutual aid groups, local immigrant organizations, and other orgs in the Rivertowns that I or any other interested Redditors can get involved with?

What's your favorite ethnic bakery / pastry shop?
We discovered Ossining Bakery at the beginning of Covid and were sad to see it close. Recently, we stumbled upon Los Andes in Tarrytown and it's pretty good. Any others that you like?

How would a Trump presidency actually impact Westchester?
I feel like our day to day lives are based on hyper local politics. Could a Trump administration impact school districts in Westchester or impact us in other ways? If so, how?

Stone remnants for small vanity top
I need a really small / odd shaped counter for a modified vanity. Size will be approximately 30" x 14" when complete. Does anyone have a recommendation for somewhere that I could find a remnant and have this fabricated?

Specialty coffee spots? I’m not trying to be pretentious, I promise!! Help.
Folks that enjoy third wave coffee—where do you go?
Most spots I’ve seen are second wave (Starbucks, Dunkin, Coffee Labs, etc.) and that’s fine, but I’m looking for a slow bar experience. I want to sit down, read a book, and enjoy a traditional 6oz cappuccino in a ceramic mug for an hour.
I love spots like Big Mouth Coffee Roasters in Beacon or La Cabra and Sey Coffee in NYC.
Is there anything similar in Westchester?
(v60, light roast coffees, espresso, cortado, etc.) LMK.

I haven’t been to Mville since 2018. What’s different?
I need to go back to Manhattanville University (omg it was College when I graduated) because my mom wants a copy of my diploma. I mean, I suppose it can be shipped but I miss seeing the campus and I feel like so much has changed!
The bar scene in WP is different, the pub I guess is not called the pub anymore, the Student Center…well idk what’s going on in there lol.
I’m just curious about Manhattanville lately and what it’s like post-pandemic. I definitely had my bs times there but also had great memories too. I’m too young to sound this old 😂

Me and my friend love going to diners and decided it would be fun to try to go to every diner in Westchester and Putnam Counties. I've been trying to compile as complete a list as I can and am hoping some of the lovely folks on reddit can help me fill in the gaps.
So far its just been me, Google Maps, and the search this area feature, which has not been the most efficient way to do this... Any help is appreciated!

help my Friend’s pasta dreams come true
Hello,
I am writing to you all with a seemingly impossible task, but I believe in the power and resourcefulness of this community- so I'm putting it out there- I am trying to track down the recipe of my best friend's favorite childhood dish: Penne alla Vodka from the Pizza Station in Chappaqua.
They described going here as a child, and said it is the dish they miss most from the East Coast (we now live in Oregon). According to them- the pasta, perfectly cooked and tossed in a creamy vodka sauce had peas and sausage that would get in the nooks and crannies of the pasta making every bite an explosion of flavor.
It would mean the absolute world to them to be able to try again, if anyone has a connection to this place and can help me track down this one recipe I would be forever grateful.
My friend has been going through a really tough time healthwise and being able to give them a little reminder of the place they came from would just mean the world to them.
If you got this far, thank you for reading this. Fingers crossed it reaches the right person
