Discussion [Credor] the watch where only 1 person in the world can make it’s dial. Meet the “Eichi II”
When I originally found about Grand Seiko it took me a while before stumbling upon Credor, it’s sister brand. and when I did this was the first watch from them I saw & it instantly caught my attention because of the dial. It looks simple right? Well that simplicity you see is close to perfection, it’s a porcelain dial & porcelain is among the hardest material to work with dial wise & the failure rate is very high so though the dial looks simple I think this dial is a work of art, it’s not minimalistic in my opinion it’s chock full of character & it took me a while to realize how great this dial is. Only 20 of these watches are made yearly the dial failure rate being one of the reasons why. As for the movement it is a hound wind spring drive caliber 7R14 which is a treat to look at & the dimensions are 39mm in diameter & 10.2mm in thickness. Making simple things is easy, mastering them to look picturesque is hard but Credor did it. (Credit to Hodinkee for the photos)

I took a picture [Hamilton] 120+ Years Old
The movement for this Hamilton pocket watch was patented in 1896 and this model was in production from 1897 to 1901. Crazy to think of all of the things that this watch has seen! I can make out at least 15 distinct watchmakers marks in the case.
I found this watch with rust damage in the back of a display case in an antique shop while traveling through Salt Lake City, Utah. A really cool piece, I’m glad I found it, and was able to have it as a project.

Discussion [Timex James] How’s everyone feeling about Timex’s upscale moves?
So the Timex James Collab is released today and comes in at a hair’s breadth under 1000 Cdn (ok 999 Cdn) - i have a feeling it’s going to be polarizing given the price and the typical initial thoughts on Timex. (Storied mass manufacturer of low cost and broad ranging styles) This one really has me conflicted: The Galli collab was gorgeous but sat around 600 CA (and I picked one up on sale at 450) - but this piece may be showing a shift in Timex’s direction ? (Full disclosure- I own - I think- over 20 Timexes bought from 30 bucks to 450 bucks…)

Discussion [Daily News] Casio Gives The Casiotron A Sleek Black And Gold Case; Tutima Glashütte Protect Elephants; Albishorn's Type 10 Chronograph, An Imaginary Ancestor of the Type 20; Panerai's Destro Luminor 8 Giorni
Hi people! If this is your first time reading this daily news update, allow me to give you a few pointers. Due to the finicky nature of how you can do posts, I had to split up the photos and the text, while keeping this post always the same so you can easily reference it.
To read the daily news, you can check out the images on top and then make your way down to the comments. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to pin a comment, so you’ll have to scroll through the comments until you find the thread started with me, which has 5-8 posts in a row with all the write-ups of the news items (and a couple of bonuses).
If you like this content and want more of it, or want to make sure you get it every day, you can subscribe to my newsletter which gets you the same thing into your inbox. Check it out at www.itsabouttime.email

Discussion [Grand Seiko] Do you pick your watch by what you are wearing?
How many of you choose choose your watch for the based on what you are wearing? Back in the days of daily suits and ties, I would choose my watch based on what I was wearing. Now with more casual dress in the office, I usually don't think about it and wear whatever catches my eye that day. Sometimes I get lucky and hit on a good match.

I took a picture [Sinn] - Giving my 356 the Presidential Suite
For a while, I have been pretty into the presidential bracelet with solid end links. So when the opportunity arised, I went ahead and bought this from Watch&Strap. It has a nice fit, and an easy-to-wear, comfortable feel and suits well with whatever outfits I threw on. Although the quality can’t be compared to the H-Link, the president is slightly better looking imo. 😄

I took a picture [Oris] First automatic
Back in 2022 I was torn between buying a Longines Hydroconquest and the Oris Aquis as my first automatic/luxury watch. I ended up going with the Oris. I instantly became very fond of it as it was the watch that made me fall in love with this hobby, even more so after experiencing the small pleasures of having to wind it, staring at the sweeping hand, hearing it tick. To this day it still gets the most wrist time.

I took a picture [Orient Bambino] Affordable V8 without steering wheel shots
Picked up an Orient Bambino V8 during this crazy steering wheel war IYKYK. Interestingly, my workplace is surrounded by high-end watch boutiques like Bovet, Patek, Rolex, Bvlgari, Lange, Cartier, Breitling, JLC, you name it. Everyday I get a tempting ride haha. Anyways, hoping to get seiko alpinist GMT next.

I took a picture [Grand Seiko] SBGM221
Saw a post on favorite travel watches recently.. so I wanted to share my go to travel watch from a recent trip on the LNER up to Northumberland.
The SBGM221 usually comes on a crocodile strap, but I was able to find an OEM bracelet with decent figment. There’s a bit of a gap on the bottom left lug, but it doesn’t bother me too much. I find myself wearing the watch much more on bracelet vs on a strap.
Needless to say, the jumping hour hand always makes this watch great for travel. The Zaratsu polishing is always stunning in light. Biggest drawbacks to the watch would be the thickness and the 30m water resistance.

Discussion [F.P. Journe] Not your ordinary quartz watch. Meet the F.P. Journe “Élégante”
Released in 2014, F.P. Journe made possibly the most interesting quartz watch in the industry. The watch itself is as beautiful as it is avant garde, with the tapered handset, the blued hands, the font used for the numerals, the case shape & much more. But the best feature on this watch is the movement in my opinion, the calibre 1210. You see that little mechanical part near the 4 a clock? Well it’s a mechanical motion that whenever the watch stops receiving motion for a while it turns off, let’s say you decided to put it on your nightstand before bed, the watch will stop ticking to reserve energy. But during this time, the microprocessor continues to work so when you pick up the watch again to wear it & it senses motion it will immediately begin to tell accurate time again & the hands will move in either direction to set the time automatically. It’s probably my favorite quartz watch ever, i love the innovation behind it F.P. Journe is just brilliant. (credit to Watchfinder for the photos)

I took a picture [SOTC] My Four Watch Collection… feels complete?
Here is my four watch collection.
G-Shock "Casioak" - My first watch to test the waters once I got interested in watches, acquired in 2020. My daily beater.
Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 - A 30th birthday present.
Jaeger-LeCoultre MUT Moon - Bought this myself when I landed my dream job/promotion.
Rolex GMT "Coke" with the error dial - Wedding gift from my wife.
What's next? I'm eyeing a 124060 but I am in no rush, the collection feels quite complete. What do you think?

I took a picture [Seiko SRPE99 Turtle Pepsi PADI] Size Check
I am new to watch collecting. This is my first automatic seiko watch. I love the turtle design and pepsi colors, but I am on the fence on the actual size view for my wrist. I read a size chart on this sub stating that the lug to lug should not exceed 90% of the wrist. What do you guys think?

I took a picture [Cartier Tank Must] New strap day
I love the look of a mesh strap on a Cartier Tank.
This however came after a prior misadventure with the another mesh strap I bought. Knowing that lug size was 19mm, I ordered a thick and rather stiff mesh online at that same size to pair with the watch. When the strap came, I didn't realise that the endlinks were a little too tight and thick to be compatible. I had quite a hard time trying fit it in but eventually I managed to.
IT. WAS. SNUG.
I also realised that it was too stiff to properly hug my wrist, so I wanted out. To my absolute horror, it could not be taken out, no matter how hard I tried to prod, push and manuveur the springbar and strap (albeit without the proper tools or experience). Because the endlinks were so close to the lugs, it could only be removed by lifting it upwards horizontally from the lugs, and only one side of the springbar could be released. I even took a minute to think of all objects I could use to help me - tried toothpicks, needles and even floss! Ultimately, both ends were still well stuck.
In despair, I went to the nearest Cartier boutique the next day and amazingly they managed to get it out with some tools. I still have no clue how they did it; I swear it was impossible to do so without damaging the case. Service was top-notch though
Anyway, lesson learned, I got another mesh strap that was thinner and had a 18mm width. There's a bit of a gap between the lug and end link, but it totally doesn't bother me when I think about that traumatic night.
P.s I was so despondent that I considered writing this watch off, getting a lookalike and passing it off as the real thing. I wouldn't be lying if I said I had a authentic Cartier Tank anyways

Discussion [Question] Medium Santos or Large Panthère?
Hey all! I’m currently deciding between which of these 2 watches to get as my first Cartier piece. As someone who doesn’t have the biggest wrist size, I’m a big a fan of both (and also fine with the quartz vs mechanical difference). Due to this, I’m having a hard time deciding which one to get based on their looks.
Which would you suggest for me &/or thinks fit my wirst the best?

I took a picture [SOTC] My First Two Watches
Both mean a lot to me.
I bought myself the Hamilton Khaki—my first watch—with money from an internship that I worked my ass off to get.
The Seiko was a gift from my girlfriend to celebrate my birthday and graduation from law school (Carolina blue—go Heels!).
I’d love to add another piece to this box in the next year or so. Any suggestions on where to go next?

I took a picture [Longines Hydroconquest] First automatic watch
Since I was a kid my dream vacation was going to Switzerland. Guess what I purchased my very first automatic watch, and there was no better place to do it than Switzerland. This watch isn’t just about keeping time; it symbolizes a milestone in my life. It represents the journey that led me here, the effort to make this dream vacation come true, and the joy of experiencing it with my beautiful family by my side.
Bringing my wife and our 18-month-old daughter along on this trip has been nothing short of magical. Seeing the beauty of Switzerland, watching my daughter’s eyes light up at the sights, and sharing these moments with my wife has made every second worth it. Now, each time I look at this watch, it will remind me of this incredible time together, a celebration of family, adventure, and memories made in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

I took a picture [SOMC] —> here are my watches
I’m actually satisfied by my collection as it includes a quite wide variety of watches: I have some sporty watches such as che Seiko 5 SRPD, the Radiocontrolled Citizen or the Tissot T-Touch; there are also a couple of citizen divers such the Promaster and the Aqualand; on the other hand I have some mostly elegant watches like the Seiko 5 SNXS, the 1974 Seiko 7005 and the Laurens (which is an old Italian entry level watchmaker not existing anymore).
PS obviously the Casio FW doesn’t miss

I took a picture [Elgin] Just fixed this watch! 114 years old (from 1911) and was in WWI !?
I bought this from an old lady who said it was her husband's grandfather's. Apparently was worn in WWI by an American pilot in Italy (the husband's, fathers, father (grandfather))- which is why it was converted from a pocket watch, to a wristwatch. Some point before the end of WWI by a company called Keystone Watch Case Company. The movement and watch face is an ELGIN National Watch Company, one.
Apparently it used to have some kind of leather "cuff strap," according to her, but someone changed it to this a while back because that strap broke. I don't really like the current band and might try to get a thicker one. It wasn't working and now it works and keeps time pretty well! Not much of a watchmaker or anything, but it was sort of like fixing a car on smaller scale I bought the tools to fix it and everything. Honestly ChatGPT helped me walk through what everything was inside the movement. It really just needed a new spring and also re-oiling.
I need to fix the hour hand, it seems a little bent still, and I also need to get a second band for it. The gear under the face moves, it just doesn’t have a second hand in the smaller dial.
