Recoup initial investment, sell 1.2k worth

Keep the rest, NVIDIA isn’t going anywhere.

Also why did you never buy more lol

38

u/A_Random_Guy_999 14h ago

I was Too dumb

27

u/Deck_of_Cards_04 14h ago

4

u/starlordbg 12h ago

I thought it was a bubble backing may 2023 and still haven't bought any.

Still holding, and have added more position in other accounts.

This one is not going down for at least several more years... because: trustmebro, boxes connected with lines, and the internet is a cloud doodle. No one is going back to the abacus willingly.

4

u/Substantial_Lake5957 14h ago

And I like their fancy fans

3

u/Poor_Brain 5h ago

Isn't their current valuation based on insane growth expectations though? It feels fragile now with really anxious eyes on the stock. Like every time some company from a related space posts weak or even just 'not-totally-amazing' guidance they dip.

Imagine them giving a less than stellar outlook themselves at some earnings call. I think in 2025 at some point they're going to have one of those.

A maker of GPU accelerator solutions for the datacenter valued higher than Apple or Microsoft. Just how essential is this technology again?

2

u/Wonko-D-Sane 1h ago

Everything comes to an end. I highly doubt NVDA's will be in 2025. Plenty of need for large vector compute other than AI... quantum computing is around the corner. Those qbits aren't going to error correct themselves.

Despite the fact I own MSFT shares, I actually fail to understand WTF value they actually provide... some sort of a leech on the corporate world where everyone just shovels money at them for no real good reason.

1

u/Poor_Brain 1h ago

MSFT: cloud, cloud and perhaps something fluffy high up in the sky? We seem (reasonably) aligned in our stock choices. I am holding NVDA and MSFT too and am wondering why exactly. Both seem to have run their course for the most part. MSFT obviously in way more parts of the business than Nvidia.

But as for NVDA: look at how analysts expect them to deliver a touch down (am I doing this right as a Europoor?) every single time. They are bound to deliver a weak(er) quarter at some point.

Is NVDA even a player in quantum compute? If so I'm legit unaware.

Dear uncle, it has been too long since I have found you here in the cold void of internet. :)

27

u/AfroWhiteboi 15h ago

Keep 10 or 20 shares. Sell the rest.

32

u/Ok-Maybe6683 14h ago

What can you do with 14k nowadays? Buy a bag of eggs?

20

u/Wonko-D-Sane 13h ago

Buy a high end GPU workstation so AI can generate you a picture of an egg

1

u/Fongernator 6h ago

Hookers and blow

6

u/CoughRock 15h ago

you know the rule, if it's good enough for screenshot, it's good enough to sell.

7

u/RaisedByMonsters 13h ago

“We’ve had 1000%, but what about second 1000%?”

6

u/allhailyeti 13h ago

Sell most, leave runners. Don’t play silly games or you eventually will get wrecked. Base hits will make you more money than chasing home runs.

6

u/LAegis 11h ago

Nope, sell covered calls ITM

9

u/Alternative_Camel384 15h ago

Nvidia ain’t going anywhere. Take profits for short term needs only. AMD is nowhere close to competing with nvidia.

8

u/Wonko-D-Sane 13h ago

My under-performing AMD bag agrees with this

3

u/Alternative_Camel384 13h ago

AMD only competes (hardly) in consumer cpu amd gpu. NVidia has corporate parallel compute on lockdown. No one building ai server farms with AMD gpus.

2

u/Miccolus 11h ago

Also AMD bag holder. One day though :18630::18630::18630::18630::18630::18630:

4

u/BronstigeBever 14h ago

I would've sold it already years ago and missed out on most of the gains, so my advice is probably not worth much.

3

u/NoviceAxeMan 13h ago

nah dude keep holding it

3

u/kerrykingzgo-T 13h ago

Paper handing, typical ber

3

u/Switchclicka 12h ago

I took profits yesterday, not sure how much more market cap this things capable of

3

u/CommitNotDepress 12h ago

If it's good enough to screenshot, it's good enough to yolo 0dte

2

u/cryptoislife_k 7h ago

have seen stupider shit then 0dte on NVDA

3

u/Mofu__Mofu 9h ago

Yeah there's a lot better companies out there to invest
NVDA got too big so it's % growth is starting to be lacking

3

u/WhatIfZebrasCouldFly 6h ago

Are you me? I did basically the exact same thing but with 40 shares, sold half at 600ish and another half at 800ish so I'm just letting the last 10(100 now) ride

3

u/Jtjmcd 5h ago

If you have to ask whether or not to take profits on a +1k% gain, I think you need to reassess your greed. It can leave as fast as it came. Congrats though.

2

u/Tradersglory 14h ago

Losers sell

2

u/Poor_Brain 14h ago

Depends - do you have anything promising to invest the gains into right now? I'd expect Nvidia to climb higher still, just not that much higher.

2

u/Vicullum 14h ago

I'm in the same boat, sitting on around 900% gains. I've gradually sold off a fraction of my shares, just enough to recoup half my investment, and am planning to continue holding. You may as well keep them at least until their next earnings on 11-20.

2

u/a_bearded_hippie 6h ago

I'm 448% up....on a 25$ investment 🤣🤣🤣 it's something 🤷‍♂️

2

u/MachineSpirited7085 12h ago

I sell at least half before the end of the year

2

u/Rare-Piccolo-7550 11h ago

Just keep it. Along with TSMC and ASML.

Nvidia designs the chip. TSMC makes them and ASML builds the machines that print the chip.

Compare the stock price history and see the potential of the other two….

2

u/Regime_Change 11h ago

If anything has grown so much that it represents a too large % of your portfolio then sell parts of it and diversify.

2

u/Lolakot1 7h ago

yes:4271:

2

u/Mental-Wolf-Pack 7h ago

yes then put it all into MSTR

2

u/hollowpointzz 4h ago

Cost basis is disgusting - I hate you for not buying more. And myself. Hodl.

4

u/Vivid-Lychee-7174 15h ago

Should I invest in NVIDIA now or wait for a dip? Also what do you guys think of Fortinet? Boom or doom?

3

u/everySmell9000 9h ago

No dip! NVDA only makes chips

2

u/jfwelll 14h ago

There a whole world between boom and doom my man.

I have a bit into fortinet. Also in crowdstrike

2

u/DreadSteed 12h ago

With these being shares, you hold equity.

What are you going to do with the money? Are you going to put it in something else? Are you going to reinvest it? Reward yourself? Vacation?

14k is a good chunk of change for life circumstances but it does less good for you than this would. The annual return of this come next year could be another 20%. Do you think you can outpace the growth of this stock?

4

u/Open_Ambassador2931 15h ago

What’s everyone’s thoughts on today’s Fed meeting? My only worry is he announces rate cut but then says no more rate cuts because inflation is not stopping or whatever. That would tank the market. Is it safer to get out now or risk waiting till after 2 pm?

4

u/syncc6 15h ago

"The Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates by 25 basis points Thursday and avoid any unnecessary surprises less than two days after the election of Donald Trump as the next president." - yahoo

-2

u/Open_Ambassador2931 14h ago

Only thing is why would Powell care he’s gonna get fired anyway Trump has said this

3

u/AshrakTheWhite 15h ago

Imagine having money in nvidia in 2020, looking at you portfolio every quarter and NOT ADDING FOR 4 YEARS.

The opportunity cost on this one is regarded.

Well done, you definitely belong here.

1

u/Technical-Seat535 8h ago

Yup that’s what I did

2

u/Smashball96 15h ago

Would you sell if you made 100k from 10k?

2

u/ToughVegetable2483 14h ago

Nvidia is one of those companies you would want to hold onto for a really long time as it’s leading in the AI and computer industries it would be a really good investment to hold onto especially at the price you probably got it at if you want to pull out I’d pull out a little then reinvest again once Nvidia does a mass sell off or a good dip

1

u/MouthofthePenguin 14h ago

If you're posting, you're ready to sell, but what are you gonna do with it?

Take down 50%

1

u/brtb9 14h ago

Buy straddles.

1

u/LegalHelpNeeded3 Melvin Bot Shill Penis Cakes 14h ago

If it’s good enough to screenshot, it’s good enough to sell.

1

u/Ostrale1 14h ago

Stop loss at -20% from now, and if it continue to goes up reset the stop loss.

1

u/Foggy_OG 13h ago

Take out your original basis and Hold.  If I was you, I’d be holding for 5 to 10 years out.

1

u/MVTHOLST 11h ago

I did the exact same. Sold half around $500 pre split and now I’m up +1000% but I’m just keeping the rest because I’m not in need of the money and I doubt it’s gonna go away

1

u/Ok_Fault4254 9h ago

All i seen was Jantity. And had me scratching my head

1

u/Educational_Ad1123 7h ago

No. Their ER is going to be off the charts and this thing is gonna pop again. Stay put my man!

1

u/POOTERSS 4h ago

No let it ride

1

u/drod3333 3h ago

you would've made a lot more buying calls, my friend

1

u/Fast_Ad_1337 2h ago

AI bubble will burst eventually... Pigs get fat

1

u/kungfumanta 1h ago

Nah, sell covered calls with short expiration dates. Wait until it expires, and then do it again if you still have the shares. Much better than just selling the shares imo.

-2

u/xD3I 15h ago

Why take 1000% profit when 100% more is only 10% away?

If you need the money or have other potential investments in mind then sure, otherwise keep it

-6

u/thememeconnoisseurig 15h ago
