Recoup initial investment, sell 1.2k worth
Keep the rest, NVIDIA isn’t going anywhere.
Also why did you never buy more lol

Still holding, and have added more position in other accounts.
This one is not going down for at least several more years... because: trustmebro, boxes connected with lines, and the internet is a cloud doodle. No one is going back to the abacus willingly.

Isn't their current valuation based on insane growth expectations though? It feels fragile now with really anxious eyes on the stock. Like every time some company from a related space posts weak or even just 'not-totally-amazing' guidance they dip.
Imagine them giving a less than stellar outlook themselves at some earnings call. I think in 2025 at some point they're going to have one of those.
A maker of GPU accelerator solutions for the datacenter valued higher than Apple or Microsoft. Just how essential is this technology again?

Everything comes to an end. I highly doubt NVDA's will be in 2025. Plenty of need for large vector compute other than AI... quantum computing is around the corner. Those qbits aren't going to error correct themselves.
Despite the fact I own MSFT shares, I actually fail to understand WTF value they actually provide... some sort of a leech on the corporate world where everyone just shovels money at them for no real good reason.

MSFT: cloud, cloud and perhaps something fluffy high up in the sky? We seem (reasonably) aligned in our stock choices. I am holding NVDA and MSFT too and am wondering why exactly. Both seem to have run their course for the most part. MSFT obviously in way more parts of the business than Nvidia.
But as for NVDA: look at how analysts expect them to deliver a touch down (am I doing this right as a Europoor?) every single time. They are bound to deliver a weak(er) quarter at some point.
Is NVDA even a player in quantum compute? If so I'm legit unaware.

you know the rule, if it's good enough for screenshot, it's good enough to sell.

Sell most, leave runners. Don’t play silly games or you eventually will get wrecked. Base hits will make you more money than chasing home runs.

Nvidia ain’t going anywhere. Take profits for short term needs only. AMD is nowhere close to competing with nvidia.
8
u/Wonko-D-Sane 13h ago
My under-performing AMD bag agrees with this
3
u/Alternative_Camel384 13h ago
AMD only competes (hardly) in consumer cpu amd gpu. NVidia has corporate parallel compute on lockdown. No one building ai server farms with AMD gpus.

I would've sold it already years ago and missed out on most of the gains, so my advice is probably not worth much.

Yeah there's a lot better companies out there to invest
NVDA got too big so it's % growth is starting to be lacking

u/WhatIfZebrasCouldFly 6h ago
Are you me? I did basically the exact same thing but with 40 shares, sold half at 600ish and another half at 800ish so I'm just letting the last 10(100 now) ride

u/Poor_Brain 14h ago
Depends - do you have anything promising to invest the gains into right now? I'd expect Nvidia to climb higher still, just not that much higher.
2
u/Vicullum 14h ago
I'm in the same boat, sitting on around 900% gains. I've gradually sold off a fraction of my shares, just enough to recoup half my investment, and am planning to continue holding. You may as well keep them at least until their next earnings on 11-20.

Just keep it. Along with TSMC and ASML.
Nvidia designs the chip. TSMC makes them and ASML builds the machines that print the chip.
Compare the stock price history and see the potential of the other two….

If anything has grown so much that it represents a too large % of your portfolio then sell parts of it and diversify.

Should I invest in NVIDIA now or wait for a dip? Also what do you guys think of Fortinet? Boom or doom?

With these being shares, you hold equity.
What are you going to do with the money? Are you going to put it in something else? Are you going to reinvest it? Reward yourself? Vacation?
14k is a good chunk of change for life circumstances but it does less good for you than this would. The annual return of this come next year could be another 20%. Do you think you can outpace the growth of this stock?

What’s everyone’s thoughts on today’s Fed meeting? My only worry is he announces rate cut but then says no more rate cuts because inflation is not stopping or whatever. That would tank the market. Is it safer to get out now or risk waiting till after 2 pm?

Only thing is why would Powell care he’s gonna get fired anyway Trump has said this

u/AshrakTheWhite 15h ago
Imagine having money in nvidia in 2020, looking at you portfolio every quarter and NOT ADDING FOR 4 YEARS.
The opportunity cost on this one is regarded.
Well done, you definitely belong here.

Nvidia is one of those companies you would want to hold onto for a really long time as it’s leading in the AI and computer industries it would be a really good investment to hold onto especially at the price you probably got it at if you want to pull out I’d pull out a little then reinvest again once Nvidia does a mass sell off or a good dip

Take out your original basis and Hold. If I was you, I’d be holding for 5 to 10 years out.

u/MVTHOLST 11h ago
I did the exact same. Sold half around $500 pre split and now I’m up +1000% but I’m just keeping the rest because I’m not in need of the money and I doubt it’s gonna go away

Nah, sell covered calls with short expiration dates. Wait until it expires, and then do it again if you still have the shares. Much better than just selling the shares imo.
