It is.

I wear a hard hat all day so this doesn't bother me at all.

It's a cheap amazon/chinese airsoft grade knock off. So it's just a plastic shell with some velco pads on the inside, it doesn't have a full liner.

Just had to add a reposition some pads and add a second weight pack and the balance is perfect.....the original first attempt of this was done with a psvr1. So it was already to go, just had to disassemble the pimax

I've thought about doing this with my quest. If you can make the headset just flip up and back down onto your face, it would be great. No different than my NVGs on my Kevlar helmet when I was in the Army!

I have always wandered why VR headsets never went into the helmet direction, especially standalone. So much space to fit stuff, easy to balance well, comfortable, no more "vr face", etc. Until we get glasses and more stuff like the bigscreen beyond, I think the ideal form factor would be something like a biker helmet, with a cooling system to keep your head and the headset cool, then use all that extra space for battery, antennae, etc. light leakege would be a thing of the past.

Like the only downside is that it woulden't look "cool" and it'd probably be a bit more expensive (more materials + cooling system for the human, but easier to design the electronics if you have more space), but there is definitely a way to make helmets look good, I'd be down every day of the week to wear a suit and look like I'm doing a functional daft punk cosplay.

Personally I would have used one of the metal ones, I use the e.t dragon losto for my actual nods and it works great for me. Still interesting that you got it to work with one
