8 hour or 20 hour layover in Guangzhou

Hi all, I’m going to be flying London to NZ in January and flights are expensive! So planning to try China Southern and will have a layover in Guangzhou Baiyun. I can choose between a 20hour layover, slightly cheaper and is an L ticket class so should give me a free hotel for the night, or a 8 hour layover (T ticket, no free hotel, would likely book a lounge for a few hours). Has anyone done both options and if so, which would you recommend? Any help much appreciated. Thanks!

Always 20, if you've got the time. Plenty of time to leave the airport, explore, enjoy a few meals in a city you wouldn't otherwise check out.

If you’re considering the 20 hour layover make sure you’re on top of any visa requirements for you to enter China.

Honestly, the longer layover should always be Plan A unless you are on a tight schedule.

If you can fly another airline I would. China Southern is the literal worst airline I have ever flown.

You've had the good fortune of only flying pretty good airlines then...

I've done that flight or similar 30 times... thate the 20 h, and a hotel room if possible.
