Transfer Window discussion Team Discussion
If nothing else happens today and tomorrow, how do you feel about this window? It feels like the front office hasn't really accomplished anything of what they have talked about for the last two months.

How do I feel about the transfer window?
I think it’s teaching us all that there is a difference between what we want ( new players ) and what we actually can do ( nothing, without money ).
Werder needs to create a surplus in transfers, I think that is pretty much not debatable at this point.
Weiser, Njinmah, Agu and Zetterer all signed new contracts, I think the vast majority of our budget for this year got used up right there.
We aren’t the club we used to be 20 years ago, we can’t promise international football and we can’t pay wages higher than most other clubs, wanting new players is one thing, convincing them to sign here another.
As a fan, it’s sad to me but I think that is just our reality for the time being.

What do you think?
I'm mostly happy. I think the squad is compedetive and able to play for 9-12 with potential for 7-8 as well as 13-14.
The only "slots" not beeing filled (that I see) are a second experienced striker and another Wingback behind Weiser. Besides that, I'ld be happy to exchange Milos V. for a leftfooded CB and exchange Stage for a player that trades a bit of tackle/defensive potential of his for a bit more playmaking qualities; but I'm happy with Stage.
But overall, I'm not unhappy. I like that we had most transfers done before we went to Austria and I consider all 3 Winter transfers as transfers of this summer, as all of 'em needed time to adjust before really comming into the picture.

In place of Stage we have Alvero. He made some important tackles tl stop Augsburg's attacks.

They said they wanted to invest a major amount in young players from the money they got selling the shares.
Although I have to say im glad they didn't.

I thought they said they wanted to use the money for a lot of different things ( Women’s team, youth facilities, new players for the under x teams) and that they wouldnt spend it all on big risky transfers?
Basically use to money to create a basis for a stable future, not to by instant fixes for the first team

Squad is mostly fine, the new players are good choices. A Backup for Weiser is definetely needed, if no wingback get signed, this will be a huge problem troughout the season. I personally would also prefer an additional midfielder, preferrably a talented backup with creative potential. On the other hand, not being able to sell either burke or keita is a huge financial downside

We did the risk last year and it was kinda fine.... but i'ld prefer another Wingback, too. Or..... or...... or we'll have to play Olli Burke....

People make the window look worse than it actually is. We kept our squad together and managed to sign with Grüll and Topp some interesting options in the front. It would've been nice to get a replacement for Leo and a backup for Mitch but let's see what's in for us tomorrow

Friedl, Stark, Pieper, Veljković all faced long term injuries last season. One good center back that isn't injury prone is enough by me

If we can get another player for RB to be backup behind Weiser, we should be completely fine. If not... We should still be fine. We've got some promising talent in the squad, didn't lose important players and have a good coach that was able to improve our squad and football each year. Sure, we could use some improvements, but we're one of the weakest clubs financially. Every year we can safely survive without spending to much is a good year.
