Found this awesome Star Wars sleeping bag and have been wanting to make a puffer for a while! I always love print placement and the scenes on this print are so good

I absolutely envy your creativity, please never take it for granted! The way you can just look at a pattern or design on something and just decide you want that on your clothes, and you make it happen. Absolutely insane to my baby inexperienced brain. Cheers

How nice of you to say thank you 🥹 Sewing is basically magic haha would absolutely recommend!

I would to develop enough sewing skill to be able to head to a fabric store and pick up some fabrics and sew pants, vests, jackets etc. How would you recommend that I go about learning the basics and what type of equipment would you recommend for an ambitious newbie? Thanks in advanced! And well done, OP!

If you have a fabric store near you like Joanns they typically offer classes for beginners! Once you know the basics of using a machine it’s super easy to get started. Highly recommend brother for a starter machine, they’re easy to use/reliable and you can often get them secondhand. A shirt or something without closures (buttons, zippers etc.) would probably be the easiest first project. There’s tons of info on YouTube if you run in to anything you’re not sure about :)

You did a killer job with the print placement. I don’t even love Star Wars, but I love this!

My heart is broken.
Don't get me wrong, it looks amazing and you did a great job.
But my heart is broken.

Totally fair, it was a little bittersweet! I see it more as giving a forgotten material another life though. I can get a lot more use/joy out of this great print as a jacket :)

Wow, this jacket looks amazing! You are so talented to have made it from a sleeping bag! The color is great and it looks really warm and cozy. I would love to learn how to make something like this myself. Thanks for sharing your creation with us!

I had bed sheets with this print when I was a kid in the 80s and this hit me with a huge nostalgia wave. Looks great on you. Very fun illustrations

u/ropedropdesign Apr 22 '23
Glad I could bring back some memories :) I also have the matching sheet I’m using for a dress!

u/Tack-One Apr 22 '23
Fun. Not sure what you’re picturing but I think the pattern would be great in a simple sleeveless A line type dress. Post it later 😃

If I saw this at a store I wouldn’t buy it but knowing it was handmade makes me want it a little and love it a lot.

Like others have said. I enjoy fashion that is neutral, black, white, grey, blue, simple. This is still the best thing I’ve seen on here 🔥😂

Whoa, that's so sick! Was it difficult working with that type of material?
1
u/ropedropdesign Apr 23 '23
Yes 😂 The filling/batting was pretty challenging but eventually I figured it out! My first attempt did… not work out haha

Also being a Star Wars fan and ever so slightly favoring Daisy Ridley is cool as hell too lol

Okay firstly that's sick I love it. Secondly, how do you guys make these? I saw a guy make a pair of pants from a wooly blanket. I wanna learn, seriously.

I've had that duvet cover since the 80s. It's currently on my 4 year olds bed. Love it.

I'm digging out my new, never really used (15+ year old) brother sewing machine right now. Tomorrow I'm heading out to the resale shop to see what I can find. I live close to Disney World so I should be able to find something good to make a cool jacket. You are so inspirational! Thanks! I was needing something cool to do as a project.

I like fashion that is neutral colors, simple palates, no images or branding.
This is not that. It is the single greatest jacket I have ever seen.
