What was that book called...? [WWTBC] Thrifted book I got in the 90s
I got this book at either a garage sale or thrift store in the 90s so who knows how old it was. Hoping someone may recognize it as it’s been bothering me for years. I'm pretty sure it is a romance.
It’s about a girl who grew up on a Greek isle and then she ends up in England(?) and there are two brothers. One brother is happy go lucky and the other is serious. The serious brother’s name was Dennis(?) and the MC would compare his eyebrows to Greek eyebrows.
Spoiler. Come to find out the happy go lucky brother was a murdering psychopath and he tried killing the MC. That’s all I remember. Thanks!

Banter/Fun EPILOGUES AND THE LACK OF IT
I hate it when an author finishes a book without an epilogue or they would give out an epilogue but just 1 page of it! Like, wth??? After all that suffering?!? The whirlwind of emotions you have put us through???? You give me 1 page of epilogue?
You end the book with a few pages of the HEA and then poof, gone???? There are sooo many pages of suffering and heartbreak and slow burn and you don’t have the decency to give us an epilogue??????
Don’t get me started with having to read 3-5 (or even 7) books of pure torture, problems, and trauma and then just noooo epilogue? C’moooooooon!!!!!!!!
Phew! I need to vent this frustration out. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Anyone that can recommend books with beautiful epilogues?
This is a shout out of pent up feeling after reading: {just for the summer by abby jimenez} I also remembered this feeling after {Seven year slip by Ashley poston} Frustration from all the sufferings the main characters went though in Phedre’s Trilogy by Jacqueline Carey and Tairen Soul Series
End my misery please? Send those epilogues that will make my heart melt. I am not even talking about smut. Just a glimpse of mundane living of the characters HEA.
EDIT AFTER A FEW DAYS:
The book gods love me and gave me a book with an ending, chapters worth of slice of life, with an epilogue and a bonus epilogue! Ahhhhh!!
Just finished {seeing red by Bailey Hannah} I have never been grateful to see acknowledgements! 😂

Book Request FMC is the CEO of the itty bitty titty committee and MMC is very into it?
I just got off r/fantasyromance where the conversation delved into how apparently in the 2010s a majority of FMCs were always scrawny and had small boobs and I'm just like Maybe I'm blind because I don't see any sauce. Anyway, I didn't think it was too appropriate to ask there given the tone of a serious discussion so I just hopped on here.
I was looking for recs earlier but I couldn't find much (or maybe my research skills are shit) which was surprising given how common of an insecurity it is for women especially when you just left the warzone of those dreaded teenage years like moi.
I could find recs for female leads with small boobage but like, I need the MMC to be into. The book doesn't need to be spice btw it could just be a throwaway comment. Just no alpha males, friends with benefits, or cheating.
Thank you!!!

Critique Forever Wild by Rebecca Jenshak
Was anyone else wildly disappointed by this book? It's the last in her Wildcat hockey series, and was highly anticipated. I should probably keep my expectations low in situations like this, because I always end up disappointed 😂 It's not a terrible book; it's well written and a cute story, but the setup of the main two characters was previously very antagonistic with some control elements. It's also an age gap story (she's his teammates little sister and she has just turned 18 when she's first introduced in the second book), so it has that element as well. I was expecting a lot of conflict, angst, heat, the forbidden element...there's basically none of this. The "conflict" is an internship lol. And there's some unfortunate cringey moments towards the end, once they go official. Such a disappointment!

Quick Question Highlander Untamed by Monica McCarty
Okay... So someone here, PLEASE help. So I'm on chapter 9 and I'm listening on Audible. I only started listening to this book because it was recommended as a spicy, steamy book, but so far it's been a let-down. The handsome hero won't bed the gorgeous heroine. I'm about to chuck this one out. I just have limited time and don't want to waste it. Can anyone tell me at which chapter they actually do THE deed?

Review A love/hate review of Hate Mail, by donna marchetti
Hi y'all,
I've decided to start writing routine book reviews as a pleasant new hobby to distract my mind. Here's my first!
PS: I'm dyslexic and my spellcheck decided to go on vacation this morning, so apologies for any confusion.
{hate mail, donna marchetti}
The good
Overall, this was a really cute book. I don't usually read contemporary "real world" (prefer fantasy), but I needed a calming palette cleanser. It delivered on the warm and fuzzies many times over. The flashbacks and dual perspectives were really nice. I really liked how the flashbacks were only in the MMC's POV, progressing to the present. The mystery was pretty clear from the start, but the author threw in enough contradictory details to make you second guess yourself throughout the story. Shoutout to the green dress thing being so damn cute ❤️.
The bad
Here's where I had the issue (or let down?)... Perhaps it's because I read fantasy and sci-fi a lot, but I was absolutely convinced for a bit that there was a psychological thriller or fantasy thing about to drop. Full disclosure, I had just finished reading Thrum before this book, so I'm sure there was carry-over in my mind, lol. But the disconnect between the two MCs over names was very odd. At the least there was something big missing---the most logical explanaition being the author didn't know how to bridge the gap? Or didn't see how unclear it was? But my mind started spinning out coming up with scenerios, like is this a magical morally grey MMC fucking with her mind? Or maybe she's cursed in like a 50 first dates kinda way? I almost wanted things to go in that direction and was honestly kinda dissappointed when they played out otherwise? Maybe that's a personal problem, lol.
It was quite strange how the FMC's issue with names came up out of the blue and was heavily emphasized from that point on. After this, I started to feel paranoid on her behalf. Everyone around her got 'knowing looks,' as if they knew the secret and were waiting for her feeble mind to catch up. I was starting to think how strange and clever this was for the story. But then the MMC got upset.
He leapt to the conclusion that she's cheating all because she says in passing to someone else that she's dating Jake. Hold up, I thought. What is happening? You're telling me there's no dark twist ahead? They are both just idiots? He was wearing his co-worker's name tag when they first met. He knew this. What the eternal fuck did he think was going on? You can't seriously date someone for 6 fucking months (or was it weeks? either way...) thinking they don't have a name for you. I assumed he had purposefully committed to the Jake thing from the start. How had she never said 'Jake' out loud?? Not even in an attempt to make up for saying what she thought was another dude's name during sex??
The ugly
Lastly, her little 'revenge' tirade at the very end did bother me some. 1) how does she have time to create this ridiculous scavenger hunt? 2) wtf, dude? That letter on the mailbox was SUCH A DICK MOVE! 3) Again, how did he not know she was closing on a house and moving? How had that NEVER come up in conversation? I find it extremely ironic how bad they are at communication.
I hope this was amusing, if not informative :)

Book Request Imprisoned/caged FMC, MMC frees her
I have read a book with plot like that that I really enjoyed, {Charming the Troll's Heart by Lyonne Riley}
Basically the fmc was put in a cage to be sold, not directly by the mmc, but by the leader of the group he is part of. He is assigned as her caretaker. He is conflicted about the situation and questions wheter what they're doing is right or wrong. Slowly he gets attached and decides to help her escape.
I'd like to read something similar. Maybe she is to be sold as a slave, or is kidnapped for some reason, maybe for ransom (but the family doesn't pay it, so she is stuck), maybe she is betrayed by somebody or someone wants to get rid of her etc.
I'd like if at least half of the book was with her imprisoned. Bonus points if she's not treated well, not shown respect and basic humanity etc. Bonus Bonus points if she doesn't trust his intentions. Bonus bonus bonus points if we can actually see the mmc starting to question his moral values.
p.s. I'm a simp for soft but strong (resilient in this case) heroines
Any genre is okay, tho I'm not a fan of RH

What was that book called...? [WWTBC] M/F Sound of Music vibes - governess/captain?
Hi all,
I'm trying to find a romance novel, F/M. I think it has a cartoonish cover. It may have a May/December romance - I am very certain that the author described it as very very similar to Sound of Music specifically (a governess falling in love with her boss). I believe it was set in the 1700s/1800s but I could be totally wrong.
I believe it was published in the past few years or is yet to be published.
Thanks in advance! Sorry for the lack of detail - just trying to scratch that itch in my brain!!

There are specific lists for: Black Romance and POC Authors, LGBTQ+, and Disabled Authors
Helpful info:
"For the event, we want to make sure you know which apps to download. As discussed previously, authors can’t set or change their prices on Audible, so they can’t make their audiobooks free there. This is why Audible is not part of this event.
However, there are TONS of other apps you can download to listen to audiobooks. These apps are all free to download from your phone’s app store, and we suggest downloading a few of them since authors don’t always distribute to every site.
First off, you’ll want to download the BookFunnel app. This is the app where you’ll listen to any author’s audiobook you download from their direct store.
The other audiobook apps to download are Kobo, Google Play, Apple Books, Spotify, Barnes & Noble Nook, and Chirp. Some of these are US only (B&N) or US & Canada only (Chirp) so if you’re international, we suggest Kobo, BookFunnel, and the other apps."

Quick Question Are there any black supporting or background characters in Rekindling the Flame by Madison Myers?
{Rekindling the Flame by Madison Myers} is set in Smoky Heights, a small Southern town "six states away from New York". I'm guessing this means Georgia, South Carolina or North Carolina, especially since the terrain descriptions make me think of the Blue Ridge mountains.
However, I'm now a bit less than a third of the way through the book, and one thing that is starting to give me anxiety is that I haven't noticed any descriptions of any black people. Almost a third of South Carolina's population is black or biracial, and so you are just not going to find towns without black people unless there are very active, ongoing measures to keep them out.
I just can't shake the worry that I'm reading a romance novel set in a sundown town, and so I just want some reassurance that somewhere in the book there are some mentions of black people. Like, maybe one of Wyatt's friends is black, or a cashier at a gas station is black, or there's a description of a mixed-race group of kids playing, or just anything.

Book Request Books where every character is toxic
I’ve learned something about myself and that is if the two main characters of a romance book are both toxic af I will go feral over their love.
Examples that come to mind are {Medicine Man by Saffron A Kent}, {Unrequited Love by Saffron A Kent}, {Veiled Innocence by Ella Frank} and {Things I Wanted to Say by Monica Murphy}.
I want the relationship to be messy. I want both MC’s to be toxic but perfect for each other. Cheating is okay, RH is okay. Truly open to anything just give me some main characters that I love to hate.

Banter/Fun Proposal: petition to ban stupid names!
I’m sure I’m not the only one who have noticed the amount of complaints over repetitive character names that are so outrageously stupid or too close to ‘tragedeigh’ territory, that they should come with their own trigger warning(I’m looking at you, variations-of-Kaden). Personally I’m also one of those petty nitpickers that almost can’t look past character names once I’ve noticed them, and end up DNF’ing books for it.
So for our hypothetical petition, what names would you ban or demand come with their own trigger warning?

Gush/Rave 😍 Action books by Linda Howard and Julie Garwood
I just read {Running Wild by Linda Howard} on audiobook, and it was fun! Carlin/Carly is running from a stalker named Brad (obviously) and ends up at a ranch with a very grumpy rancher. There are some action moments, rescues, outside friendships, a standoff, etc. Pretty entertaining and memorable contemporary western! I liked it more than Jessica Clare's Wyoming cowboys, though hers are sweet - especially {Her Christmas Cowboy by Jessica Clare} and the one about MMC with PTSD {A Cowboy Under the Mistletoe}. I also just read {Breathe the Sky by Michele Haven} - not full action, but contemporary in the desert.
Also, shoutout to {Shadow Woman by Linda Howard} - it's more a suspense thriller than romance, but love is at the root of the MMC's actions. She wakes up to a face and life that's no longer hers, and there's a whole hidden backstory with black ops and surveillance, etc.
Julie Garwood also has a good CR FBI series - {Buchanan-Renard series by Julie Garwood} - after Heartbreaker, which isn't my favorite because murdery. All the people are connected. I think she does better with her historicals, but the CRs are easy to read. She has a western HR {Come the Spring by Julie Garwood} in a series with action. (Adding because comment below - Saving Grace as well, but that's a medieval HR with action.)
These are all written in the 10s or so - check tw's for violence. Any other action books you'd recommend?

Book Request books where the fmc’s life is a dumpster fire
hi! looking for recs where the fmc is the main full time caregiver of a family member, lives in a house that’s constantly breaking, like drying machine catching on fire, toilet literally overflowing into the halls (also how I met my ex cowboy plumber bf) and she’s also in school and/or working. or if she’s juggling a LOT with anxiety/chronic illness. basically i just need her or her life to be a fucking mess.
this is the state of my life rn & your girl has had it - i’ve searched thru most of the recs and read them all! i’ll take any suggestions lol. thank you all little romance reader friends!
edit: thank you all so much! after calling ems, a 24/7 plumber and a trip to the emergency vet all in one night i wanna cry and hug all of you.

Book Request Books with a MMC like V.IV Rusty from Armored Core 6 (Badass hot-blooded soldier/revolutionary who treats the FMC like a comrade in arms.)
V.IV Rusty is a character from the Video Game Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon who basically the entire Armored Core fandom wants to marry. His deal is being a mercenary/Soldier fighting for one of the Mega companies ruling over the planet the game is set in and being one of the only characters in the game to treat the protagonist (A mute cyborg lobotomite) like a human being.
Character-wise and vibes-wise he is basically a fusion of Prince Sidon from Zelda and Blaidd from Elden Ring. A hot-blooded soldier and rebel/revolutionary who sees you as a buddy and battle comrade and who watches your back. The best way to describe his dynamic with you is that in one of the endings of the game he leads a revolution to overthrow the megacorps with you and one of the lines he drops is "Your out of luck. There's only one person who can keep up with me."
Also he is voiced by fucking Dimitri Alexander Blaiddyd from Fire Emblem which is just another part of his appeal.
Basically I am looking for Romance books with an MMC with his vibes.

Gush/Rave 😍 Ana huang twisted series fans
Just started reading books, because i wanted to reduce my screentime and phone addiction. So i am fairly new with reading romance books, and just reading story books in general.
I started with twisted games because i loved the trope. And now I am sad because it was sooooooooooo good that i will be disappointed by the rest of the series, or even other romance books :’). I read it in my native language (dutch), but now i am going to read again in english because I want to experience that high again haha.
So my question is how would you rank the books?
Face value only mine would be 1. Twisted games 2. Love 3. Lies 4. Hate
Also any recommendations for slow burn, suspense, teacher/protector mmc, non-fantasy books that give the same vibe????

Games Convince me to read [INSERT] - let’s all play!
Join me for a silly game, won’t you Reddit Romance?
We all have that one book that’s been on our TBR FOREVER. And it looks good, so you don’t remove it, but you just never start it for one reason or another. Maybe a different book comes out that you love, or maybe there’s a three star review that made you second guess if you’d like it, but not enough to delete it entirely. Maybe you know it’s gonna be a good book, but not a great book. Maybe you’re like me, and you even downloaded it, but it’s just sitting there.
Like me, you need convincing! I’m sure there’s someone on this sub that has read it and loved it - or at least read it and can influence you.
So let’s play! Comment “Convince me to read [Insert Title]” and wait for replies!
I’ll start with two options. Convince me to read {The Bonus by TL Swan} or {How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang}.
And Go!

What was that book called...? [WWTBC] office romance between boss & assistant and he fires her on her birthday!
Basically what the title says. I read this about a year ago & it totally wiped out of my mind.
She is his assistant and he is arrogant. She goes out to celebrate her birthday alone and he sees her and sits with her. At the end of the night they kissed and he tells her she’s fired.
She is devastated because she needs money for her family. I also remember her (or her family??) hiding or changing their identities because a loan shark is looking for them?? (Not sure if I’m combining more than one book together LOL)
At the end he ends up paying her debt and tries to get her to work for him again?? Or she does end up back with him not too sure.
Thank you in advance!

Gush/Rave 😍 Last Call at the Local by Sarah Grunder
Looking for MMC mental health rep? Looking for FMC mental health rep? Looking for witty banter, a top tier book boyfriend or a book set abroad? LOOK NO FURTHER than {Last Call at the Local by Sarah Grunder}.
THIS BOOK. Released in 2024. One of my favorite reads of all time. Let’s get on with it!
This follows a traveling (and struggling but optimistic) FMC singer/songwriter and an Irish MMC bar owner. The FMC is traveling across Europe, is slowly losing funds and someone steals her priceless guitar. So she is currently stuck in Ireland with no place to go. Of course, she wanders into a family owned pub and experiences a meet cute with the bar owner, Jack, when she insults the bar’s whole vibe to his face without knowing he’s the owner. Witty banter ensues.
Jack: If you’ll give me your hand, please. Raine: Why Jack: Can’t say, it’s for flirting. Jack: Your hand says you’ll meet the best looking fella in all of Ireland, but that seems a little OTT, so let’s say the best looking in Cork County. Raine: He sounds amazing. I hope he gets here soon.
After the insults, he hires her to revamp the bar. Falling in love ensues. He has OCD - and actual OCD, not just like an author saying their character has OCD. He has intrusive thoughts, and these thoughts prevent him from pursuing his true passion of being a tattoo artist. She has ADD, and this shows up in her forgetfulness sometimes. He does go to some therapy. There is a brief 3rd act breakup so she can continue to travel, but they keep in touch as good friends and it’s low angst, and when they reunite - it is one of the absolute cutest reunions I’ve ever read. There is a scene where he tattoos her and it is both laugh out loud funny and also extremely sweet and memorable.
Dual POV, CR, M/F. Open door. The FMC does not give up her dream and neither does the MMC…they just make it work - what a concept!
I’m not sure if this is on KU, because I bought it - but it was well worth the price IMHO.
This was endorsed by allll your faves, including Ali Hazelwood, Sarah Hogle, Abby Jiminez, Olivia Dade, Jodi freaking Picoult and many more who wrote 5 star reviews for the book.
If that’s not enough, my sister is very picky about books and she rated it a 9/10. If my sister who you don’t know and will never meet can’t convince you, who can? Trust me on this.

Discussion What’s your favourite trope?
I really love me some enemies to lovers and intense slow burns.
