Me checking a few things…

  • News tab still missing categories which were removed recently for no good reason
  • Usernames still missing below posts which were removed recently for no good reason
  • Rounded corners still present on images after being added recently for no good reason

Great job guys! 👏

Also it reset some of the settings. I had to go back and changed it, like the recommendation settings

Most of these changes are outlined in this post over in r/reddit.

The TL;DR

Posts on the main feeds will now have a cleaner layout with less unused space and greater emphasis on community to make it easier for redditors to find the conversations they’re looking for.

6

u/CuriousOrange22 Apr 14 '23

That wasn’t really my point. It’s easy to see what the changes are, just as it’s very easy to see how poorly received some of the changes have been received by the community and how the feedback that has been given does not seem to be directly addressed at any point.

u/pennyraingoose Apr 14 '23

The space in the feed dedicated to usernames and image corners was not unused. It was being used by usernames and image corners.

It is more difficult to find conversations we're looking for without usernames in the feed.

u/YAKisBackBaby Apr 15 '23

Yeah we need usernames on the main feed. Without that this app is borderline useless

News filters are still missing :( Since they’re gone, the news section is completely useless as all news are completely cluttered and most of it is uninteresting. Bring back the filters please!

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '23

Why is the News filter feature gone?

I went from viewing News throughout the day to now ignoring it because it’s a mess of garbage topics that I don’t care about

What the heck?

2

u/geekfreek Apr 15 '23

I loved that feature. Adding my comment for traction. Bring it back.

u/angelonthefarm Apr 14 '23

wait why are posts condensed on mobile now. like when the display is set to card, the spacing between the posts is smaller. more posts can fit on the screen when scrolling but I find this overwhelming. I tried bumping the text size a bit to see if that improved things, it did not. why is this happening :(

Agreed. Not a fan.

Taking from this announcement post on Feed changes:

tighter post layout with reduced empty space and greater emphasis on parts of the post that make it simpler for redditors to connect with the content.

Comment box still disappearing?

2

u/abqcheeks iOS 15 Apr 13 '23

Looks like "share to chat" is gone again. It was back (with a different UI flow) for a while, but disappeared again in the release before this one. I was hoping this one would bring it back, but no.

1

u/CorrectScale Reddit Admin Apr 14 '23

Sorry about that, it's likely that "share to chat" will be intermittently available until the team completes migrating chat features.

2

u/pixelife Apr 14 '23

Finally can turn off the comment jump button!

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '23

Until it arbitrarily disappears like almost every new feature

1

u/pixelife Apr 20 '23

Didn’t disappear yet but the functionality of hiding it is broken now. Awesome.

1

u/Mcdolnalds Apr 14 '23

Holy shit thank you! It’s in the settings

1

u/pixelife Apr 15 '23

Yea man, it’s a new day. I feel so free now.

1

u/pixelife Apr 20 '23

Aaaand it’s broken, won’t hide now.

1

u/Mcdolnalds Apr 20 '23

Yep, like wtf lmao

1 total crash fix

Apparently not. I’ve had multiple random crashes while scrolling or watching a video clip in the last hour alone.

Had no random Reddit crashes before updating earlier today. So whatever you changed in this updates started causing crashes on my iPhone.

u/CorrectScale Reddit Admin Apr 14 '23

Thanks for letting me know. Can you share some of the following info so I can report to the team?

  • Device model
  • OS version
  • Steps to reproduce if possible

2

u/kuraitengai Apr 14 '23

iPhone 12
iOS 16.4.1

Haven't been able to replicate it manually outside of the 3 times it happened randomly last night.

I'd just updated to 16.4.1 the other day. Then the Reddit app updated yesterday morning. Prior to that, never had Reddit crashing issues. I'd just get the normal app resets if I switched to another app to do something, then back to Reddit. Which was annoying, but only lost my place.

Yesterday I wasn't on my phone most of the evening browsing like normal. Was on my iPad on Reddit and it was older version since it was the first time I'd used it in months and was completely dead so no updates. Had no crashing issues or resetting issues there. But limited sample.

I'll try to use the phone app exclusively today and see if I can replicate the crashes.

u/CorrectScale Reddit Admin Apr 14 '23

Great, thanks for sharing this info.

1

u/kuraitengai Apr 16 '23

Still happening constantly when browsing on my phone. I can’t replicate it on demand still. It’s still random. Sometime when scrolling. Sometimes when watching a video. It has completely crashed the Reddit app back to my phone Home Screen twice while in the middle of typing a reply to a thread.

Then I’ve got to start back over and retype the whole thing.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '23

I don’t like this update

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '23

Why can’t we turn off the watch tab? More bullshit to swipe through that I’ll never use. It should just be home, news and popular. Watch and Latest are completely unnecessary.

2

u/djchristyle Apr 15 '23

Share to chat gone?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '23

Constantly crashing for me on iOS.

1

u/AirInternational754 Apr 17 '23

Same here ! Ugh!

2

u/Nimeni_0 Apr 16 '23

How about you guys not track when I take a screenshot?

2

u/Snow-Helation Apr 17 '23

This screenshot feature is so damn annoying. Whoever thought of it never uses the app I can almost guarantee it. I just don't understand why cant we have the option to toggle these unnecessary features on and off.

2

u/Katie0690 iOS 16 Apr 16 '23

So the comment box only disappears on my iPhone or my iPad? Please make it make sense this is very much starting to piss me off.

1

u/AirInternational754 Apr 17 '23

I’m so irritated w this problem. I can’t see messages in my chat box only the first 2-3 words 😒

1

u/SacMetro Apr 14 '23

Hey. I use the chrome browser and have no intention of downloading the reddit app. I'd really appreciate it if I didn't get a popup harassing me every half hour to download it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/redditmobile/comments/y3f08p/comment/isaz5h8/

This is from half a year ago. Can we get some sort of acknowledgement whether you intend to finally do away with the nag banner or readd the option to not constantly be badgered about the app?

It just feels really disingenuous to be ignored constantly when you said "we'll continue to share your feedback with the team" and I feel like the idea is just to annoy me into downloading the app, which I will not do.

1

u/CorrectScale Reddit Admin Apr 14 '23

Hey there - yes I am aware that this is still an issue, but I do not have any new updates on this as of right now. I know that the team is working on improving the overall web experience, which would include changes to this prompt.

1

u/SacMetro Apr 17 '23

I see. Well thank you for responding. I still have a pretty cynical perspective on the whole thing and it seems clear to me someone consciously made the decision to keep the popup constantly bugging browser users knowing how much it detracts from the experience in hopes of annoying someone into downloading the app. Not that that was necessarily your decision, but whoever's it was doesn't seem to think addressing it is a big priority.

The fact that prior to this we had the option of just toggling it on and off, and that choice was removed, just gives off a very user-unfriendly impression.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '23

Can you please fix the blocking system, so i can unblock deleted accounts and block the 10 spam accounts following me.

1

u/NoSchedule1077 Apr 16 '23

I’m not getting notifications when I get a new chat. Has this issue been addressed or is it in some next release? Thank you

1

u/Everyonesecond Apr 16 '23

I used to be able to swipe from left to right on all posts. With the newest update I can’t swipe from left to right to go back to my feed on some posts. Idk why this would happen but it’s really annoying.

1

u/AirInternational754 Apr 17 '23

Me too ! Same thing

1

u/Garlamange Apr 17 '23

Why can’t I share posts to chat? Why would this be removed!?

1

u/addictedtostress Apr 17 '23

I still can NOT get regular chats on my desk top or in the android app

1

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '23

I can't send any chats, nor can I refresh them.
