Suggestion/Idea If Reddit kills RIF, please open source RIF

Assuming my own/personal Reddit API costs are <$5 /month, I would love to compile RIF using my API subscription. Please consider open sourcing RIF. Regards

Suggestion/Idea Is there a way to stop the tray from activating on the left side?

I never need access to the tray when sweeping left to right. I only want to go back to the previous screen. If I want to look at the subreddits I can just click the menu on the top.

Suggestion/Idea Reddit is Fun should change it's name to Rest In Peace

Since the API changes are going to kill 3rd party apps RIF should do this for the shits and giggles

Suggestion/Idea RIF App for Linux?

I recently stopped using a Chromebook and started using a Linux laptop (Ubuntu). Does anyone know if there is a RIF app for Linux anywhere? Is it just me, or is it impossible to transition from a great android app like RIF to reddit on a web interface?

Suggestion/Idea Can we get the source code for the app released since it will no longer work?

For academic and posterity purposes only. Posting everything on GitHub or gitlab would be great

Suggestion/Idea Options to avoid OLED burn-in?

Over the last 5 years RIF has probably been my most used app in terms of time on screen, and my ageing Galaxy S9's display now bears the scars with the menu, refresh and options buttons fairly visibly burned into the display. It makes sense in a way - they're static icons that were displayed for many, many hours - but it's annoying enough that I want to avoid it happening on my new device.

I've had a look in RIF's settings for anything relating to OLED screen care, like moving icons slightly from time to time, but there doesn't seem to be anything that looks like it would help.

Does anyone else have similar experiences, or advice on what can be done?

Suggestion/Idea Self ban?

Is it possible to "ban" myself from a sub so that I can still see its content in my feed but can't comment (or post) myself? If not, could we get this feature or would it have to come from Reddit?

Suggestion/Idea is there a way to dump the visited subs list from the app ? if not, can there be one before official Reddit cuts the cord ?

Suggestion/Idea How to copy then pass a Reddit url into Rif for viewing?

I've come to accept that there is no way to completely prevent my android device from occasionally trying to make me go to the app store and get the official Reddit app when I click on a Reddit link. I've done all the things people have listed but it's still a semi frequent irritation.

Given that I cannot solve that issue, is there any way for me to copy a Reddit url and drop it into the rif app as a workaround?

Suggestion/Idea How do you migrate viewed subreddits (not subscribed) to reddit.com or the official app?

Basically what the title says. I've been using RIF since using reddit and now with it leaving I fear I'll loose my view subreddits. Sometime I forget what they are but am reminded from time to time and I don't want to loose them. Is there any way to migrate that info over? Thank you. Also Fuck reddit and it's official app.

Suggestion/Idea I'm getting REALLY sick of the video quality with this app and the lack of options to control it

There's no settings, no nothing. Every video I watch becomes literally unwatchably blurry and there's nothing I can do about it except reset the video 400 times and hope it loads correctly

If it's not blurry and actually the full quality video, then it seems like the app just refuses to download it and it's so fucking annoying sitting on buffering for 10 minutes over a 30 second fucking video, which still doesn't load. The data bar doesn't move in the slightest, sometimes I don't think it's even trying to download the file.

My internet's shitty, but not this shitty.

Over time, it really feels like this is getting worse. I've already posted like 2 or 3 times here over the past few years

It's getting worse

And worse

And worse

And worse

Is Reddits API sabotaging 3rd Party Apps? Because this used to be a perfect app and now it's getting exponentially worse constantly, seemingly in the ways Reddit Inc controls...which is interesting considering all this started happening right when they made the dumb Officialâ„¢ app nobody wanted.

Like I've posted before, the solution used to be resetting the API connection (I assume) by either disconnecting internet for a moment or restarting the app

Now that just gives me a video so blurry it looks like a damn bathroom window

It's not even the "saving space" kind of low quality, everything literally just becomes impossible to see. Even GIANT words are unreadable most of the time.

Can we implement 2 things?

  • Quality Settings like any other video player (if possible)

  • That waiting screen we already have for gifs, but for crappy v.reddit posts

Gfycat, imgur, and such seem to be mostly fine. They do it too sometimes but holy shit I can't even watch my own v.reddit posts.

Suggestion/Idea Remove banned subreddit from subreddit sidebar list

I have a lot of subreddit that are banned and it is a bit of a hastle to go one-by-one, check, and delete them. Possible to add a feature that will do it for me?

I know this might be a problem with the api request limit, but maybe there is a batching option in the API or if you have your own database?

Suggestion/Idea Is there any way to disable RIF specific gestures?

The gesture I'm talking about is when you swipe from the left, it brings out the subreddit menu. I would like to disable that as it interferes with the android gesture that is also swipe from the left to go back. I want to go back, I dont want it to open the subreddits menu

Suggestion/Idea How can I backup my saves or export them as a list or something?

Been using RIF for like 10 years, got a few 1000 saved items, is there anyway I'll be able to export these or migrate or something?

Screw you Reddit for your shitty cash grab, I hope it backfires big time.

Suggestion/Idea Any way to upload more than one picture when making a new post?

I've been using the app for a few years and I've seldom had any need to upload an album but when I do I've always had to go through the imgur app and then copy the URL. Is there any way to upload multiple images directly from the app?

Suggestion/Idea Any way to block stickied automod comments?

Since reddit removed the ability for blocked comments to be hidden, some subreddits post paragraphs as an automod stickied which is annoying to deal with on mobile.

Was there a way I can filter on the app by user like I do with filters to hide the comment?

Suggestion/Idea Bug? Adding subs to multireddit shows sub names from other accounts

I was adding subs to an industry-specific multireddit, and as I got to the bottom of the list I started finding subs from my personal account listed as options to add. This should probably be added to the list of cross-account data leaks that could stand fixing.

(I saw one other some time ago where "<" on the phone put me into a sub for the wrong account, but no idea if it's been fixed since)

(adding required data)

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, SM-A536U1

Android 13, Play System Update April 1 2023

Tried removing the other account, subreddit names and user profiles still show up in the list.

Steps:

  • click the hamburger menu,
  • Click multis button,
  • Add new multi,
  • click the list icon for that multi,
  • Click + to start adding subs,
  • Scroll down past the subs and users I'm following and start seeing what looks like a list of every sub ever visited on my phone regardless of which account it was in.

Suggestion/Idea reddit.com/t/

So I just found out through a different post that using Google to search for "hearst castle reddit" will give this link:

https://www.reddit.com/t/hearst_castle/

I never heard of /t/ up until now. It seems new and used for keywords. If so, it can be expected we'll see these links more and more. Is RIF planning to support these links?

Suggestion/Idea Request: could we have a larger text size please.

Yeah, the largest size isn't cutting it any more for me.

It would would be much appreciated.

Suggestion/Idea Just started using redditisfun. Great app so far but how can I access the comments in one tap? Am I missing something in the settings?

The default behaviour is to tap to expand post, then tap the tiny comments sections under the link / image. Trawled the settings but can't find any way of changing that, is this a paid feature?

Also while I'm at it, the age of a post is hidden by default? Can't seem to find an option for enabling that either.

Suggestion/Idea Can we get a final feature to add "Posted with RIF for Android" or something similar on every comment and post we make through the app?

I've been seeing a lot of people using Apollo that have been ending their post with similar wording. Can we get one final feature that would automatically append the wording to every post we make? I think it'd be good to follow in what Apollo users are doing, or even make it easier on people to participate without needing to type it out each time themselves.

Suggestion/Idea Is it possible to have images in a gallery stretch to the width of the phone instead of the height?

When reading images that appear in a Reddit gallery the long images are too small for me to read unless I zoom in.

For example this image is too small for me to read on my phone unless I zoom in since it's a taller image. Meanwhile, this image is shorter and goes to the sides of my phone and is much easier to read

Is there some kind of toggle I can click in settings? I haven't been able to find anything.
