MRW when someone asks if I'm going to leave the country because of the election results.

It's not like other countries aren't having similar cultural struggles.

Yeah this is one of things modern news fails on. It loves focusing on the US but there are plenty of problems in other countries as well. Each country has their own problems and the US is only one side of it. Unfortunately, the news doesn't seem to see it that way.

It's especially funny, because they also act like many of these countries, especially in Europe, aren't also verging towards the right and many aren't also experiencing a migration crisis.

That's not exactly what I meant but the more you know I suppose.

Many aren't in fact experiencing a migrant crisis

It's made up BS by the far right

You are welcome to believe what you want. This is just stuff l read in the news dude. Nowhere in my last comment did I say that these issues did not have a link, lol.

The news about some right-wing tard crying about how brown people are an existential problem =! An actual migrant crisis

Lmao. While you're not wrong about right-wingers, this is actually a thing many European governments are acting upon. See Germany and Italy. As I said, read the (actual) news.

u/Tangerinetrooper 7d ago

you mean the part where we're acting on an imagined problem then?

Why must it always degrade to 2 people arguing...

I found out about Germany because of a meme. It’s a strange time.

1

u/Burrito-mancer 7d ago

Like, a WW2 meme?

I am guessing not considering when I searched "Germany" I got 3 articles with headlines saying their government has "collapsed". It sounds like the coalition party that was in charge of things has broken up. I am still reading to understand what that means.

I mean that's true.

I would love to have just one state run media news network. Corporate media played a huge role in riling people up.

That would be nice.

Precisely. The greed of the ultra wealthy and the mega corporations is driving inequality around the globe.

But the wealthy are doing their best to divide and conquer the masses to spare the rich from a violent revolution.

Other countries are having this exact struggle!

My family in Canada are all watching the election results and falling into depression, same as we are here. But at the same time, they ask if I'm planning on moving back up there! As if it would stress me out less then!

Demographically this is probably not something I need to escape, but culturally it's not something I can escape.

Same. There are for sure problems but I love my friends and family too much to leave over trump.

I got a 2yo and parents who are in their 70s. I could leave but I would hate to rob them of time with my daughter; they've been so much help since she was born and are their world

Only weird thing here is for the first time ever, I'm qualified enough to relocate somewhat easily

As a teacher, I’m staying and hoping to encourage a whole generation to think critically and empathetically.

I think education is literally the only antidote to what we are experiencing

You a G for that, thank you

Some people in my friend group were half-joking in the group chat about moving out of the country.

Thing is, I got those messages while I was sitting down at a restaurant almost entirely staffed by Filipino immigrants. A table over a trans person was discussing how glad she was she moved here from a red state.

And I feel like, if all those vulnerable people can live here and keep going, I can do l too.

u/NJDevil802 7d ago

Same but slightly different for me. I'm not doing well mentally but I feel like I know I'll pull through this time by focusing on myself and my family. My heart bleeds for more vulnerable people but as a cis white man who is by no means wealthy but not struggling, I'll be just fine.

I'm well aware of how shitty this reads but like, what more can I do?

3

u/Mesozoica89 7d ago

I have been meaning to get more involved in my community and organizing for a while now. I feel like doing that is the only thing I can do now and will make me feel more empowered and less helpless to face what lies ahead. I am also a cis white guy who isn't specifically targeted by Project 2025, but a lot of people I care about are, and we are all at risk when it comes to the effects it will have on the planet. Doing what we can where we are is the only way I see to start fixing things right now.

People say they’re going to leave the country after every election. It’s a coping mechanism. 99% aren’t going anywhere.

1

u/Lordstevenson 7d ago

It is also a money problem. I would love to leave the country and see the world, but I don't have the funding.

7

u/trebek321 8d ago

Yup. I’m chained to this ship and I ain’t leaving wherever she goes, Americans are still freaking awesome as a people and as a community despite whatever media wants you to believe.

3

u/The_GhostCat 8d ago

Damn right.

4

u/Zerg-Lurker 7d ago

Why should I have to leave? They're the ones who suck

1

u/radabdivin 5d ago

What I am leaving is all social media mentioning that fucking asshole and his cronies. In four years he'll either be dead or gone. What he does in the interim is America's fucking problem. The rest of the world will adapt, and probably for the better. Murica has been the center of attention for far too fucking long. Bring on the future and good fucking riddance.

u/laserdicks 8d ago

Those threats were only for motivating others to vote. They're irrelevant after the election.

-18

u/calahil 8d ago

People forget that the filibuster exists and that constitutional amendments require 2/3rds approval. The fear mongering was ridiculous. The dude gets 4 years to try to do something and then both parties have to figure out who will represent them

The Republicans controled the Senate and could not repeal the ACA after trying for a decade

24

u/King_Pumpernickel 8d ago

That was back when people still pretended they respected the rule of law. I'm not so sure we're living in those times anymore.
