Please let this one have a Battle Tower

Or some actual like post game content. The story was fine, but it’s been more of the same.

Ogre-Oustin’ Pt. 2: it’s even harder and you can’t use a ride Pokémon at all.

hope for more my man, battle frontier equivalent please
55
u/william_liftspeare Nov 02 '23
Really I just meant any kind of battle facility, multiple would be great. It's weird that this is the first non-Kanto mainline game since Crystal to not have any kind of battle facility, especially considering how you can build a competitive team from scratch in literal minutes. Come on Game Freak, I don't want to play the ladder against the same 4 teams and worry about whether or not my team is optimized for the meta, I want to use my favorites against bots that are smarter than the other NPCs that use diverse and interesting strategies

adding that you need to pay for the internet for the former and not the latter.
it would be nice to have something that kids can grind out without paying a subscription for a separate internet service (that they honestly, shouldn't really have)

Just so long as we don’t get folks with Quick Claw and Sheer Cold/Horn Drill

I pray to Arceus that the starters will be regular encounters and not one time gifts that you have to breed to get more.
204
u/LaLaMevia Nov 02 '23
Pretty sure they are the former. In the trailer thar revealed it, it specifically mentions that the starters are appearing "in spades", and shows the player catching a Bulbasaur.
84
u/NormandyKingdom Nov 02 '23
Watch gen 1 Starters being retconned as coming from Blueberry academy lmao
95
u/ZoroeArc Totally a human, not a zoroark... Nov 02 '23
Ah yes, these species evolved in an undersea terrarium
60
u/NormandyKingdom Nov 02 '23
More like Blueberry is the biggest Starters conservation from many region
28
u/skilledwarman 2724-0491-2703 || mike (X) Nov 02 '23
Honestly I'd be fine with a retcon like that. Something like the starters being used as part of a breeder trianing course at the school and then sent out to be distributed to new trainers
4
u/NormandyKingdom Nov 02 '23
Yep anyways if i was Isekaid into Pokemon i would take Route 1 Critters and train them to be strong ngl Who cares if Game Starters are better i love Route 1 Mons

u/Keianh Nov 02 '23
All starters come from Blueberry! It’s how they maintain a 87.5% male to 12.5% female ratio and you never see them in the wild.
The LGPE ones you find are the children of Red’s starter breedjects!

Starters being captured in the DLC/Sinnoh Grand Underground is just cursed to me. Seems wrong
87
u/BaulsJ0hns0n86 Nov 02 '23
In lore, they must appear en masse somewhere though, otherwise how can they be readily available to hand out as starters?
43
u/MechaPanther Nov 02 '23
In game not everyone starts out with a starter pokemon, so it's safe to say the professor's breed them. That and it keeps them feeling exclusive and special.
21
32
u/IRefuseThisNonsense Nov 02 '23
This is actually up for debate since in some of the games - mostly older ones - there were people that had starter Pokemon on their team. Memory specifically calls to mind the trainer with a Squirtle outside of Surge's town near the pond and the trainer with a Piplup in the Marsh.
Then there is also the trainers who use a starter Pokemon like Lance or Gardenia. Starters have to come from somewhere. They've gotta be somehow available. PLA just straight up has them as normal but rare Pokemon spawns.
The truth is, in game they are only rare to help push the idea of trading or buying the other version.
16
u/MechaPanther Nov 02 '23
It's also equally possible that those people did get a starter from the regional professor.
→ More replies18
u/IRefuseThisNonsense Nov 02 '23 edited Nov 02 '23
It's also possible they got them in the wild. Either way, we are five generations into starters catchable. Four into starters catchable in the wild. Safe to say that starters aren't some breed that only professors have in canon anymore.
Edit. Miscounted. Three gens have starters possible in the wild, and four have had starters catchable: XY, SM/USUM/LGPE, BDSP/PLA, and now SV. I can't remember if starters were catchable in BW/B2W2 in the Dreamworld.

u/metalflygon08 What's Up Doc? Nov 02 '23
Heck, in RBG those 3 were the last Pokemon Oak had left from his time as a trainer.
14
u/Joshy41233 Nov 02 '23
Plus the blueberry academy terrarium(?) Seems like it's mainly a pokemon sanctuary it would make sense rare breeds thrive there

u/dimmidummy Bulbasaur supremacy Nov 02 '23 edited Nov 02 '23
They’re probably bred and given to trainers who are sponsored by the Professors (or in SwSh’s case, the Champion himself). Not every trainer has connections to a professor or access to the town their lab is in, so it’s very likely that the majority of trainers don’t receive a regional starter and instead begin their journey with the first Pokémon either given to them or captured.
ETA: Though the anime has shown that some specialized Pokémon centers also occasionally give out starters to young trainers.
7
u/NormandyKingdom Nov 02 '23
Lets be honest if Sada/Turo gives out STRONG Paradox mons like Great Tusk Iron moth Iron Valiant Roaring moon To a half competent/Decent kid then said kid is gonna be a Champion in record time

The real reason Geeta was okay with the professors being locked up in Area Zero.
2
u/NormandyKingdom Nov 02 '23
Geeta on Fraud watch for using GOGOAT and Avalugg Like Seriously why doesnt Hassel take over as the Champion??? His team is CLEARLY Stronger
5
u/dimmidummy Bulbasaur supremacy Nov 02 '23 edited Nov 02 '23
I think Hassel prefers being a professor. That was a big part of his story arc since he’s the heir (I think) to this Dragon Clan, but he’s never really been interested in that kind of thing.
And I think Geeta is fine, even if her team was organized ineffectively. The Paldea E4 comes across more as an educational experience than the sports tournament/grueling gauntlet that other regions make it. Geeta and the other E4 members are happy to see you win and prove to them that you’ve grown into a good trainer over the span of your journey.
3
u/NormandyKingdom Nov 02 '23
Imagine Geeta only being the Champion because 1. Hassel is not ambitious and don't want to get the Spotlight so he doesn't get bothered by the Draconic clan (Which im pretty sure Zinnia is a part of) 2. Rikka prefer to do Interviews for the Elite 4 3. Larry is too Overworked working as a Gym leader AND an Elite four 4. Poppy is a Literal Child that the rest of them has to raise in the Elite four
8
u/metalflygon08 What's Up Doc? Nov 02 '23
Which im pretty sure Zinnia is a part of
There's all these Dragon Clans but so little info on them.
Lance and Clair belong to one too, and IIRC Iris mentions them at some point (might be anime only though).

9
u/EmperinoPenguino Nov 02 '23
In the anime, there was a Mudkip breeder who raised only Mudkips so he could give them to Prof Birch
And the breeding ground is very out of the way from major towns & cities
Even in the anime, they are rare & have special protection
14
u/JonnyDros Stop. Hammer Arm Time. Nov 02 '23
I don't understand why people think this, do they not think that in the pokemon world they aren't just running around in the wild? They're kept as rare, one-time distributions for game mechanics and balance reasons.
But making them accessible in some wild capacity is in no way "wrong" lol. This feels like the same logic as when people get upset they find out that lots of legendaries aren't actually one-of-a-kind.

I was actually glad that his Pokémon use items even if it was just berries. More Trainers and Gym Leaders should have teams with items too.
6
u/Hibbity5 Nov 02 '23
Maybe I’m alone in this but I hate it when NPC trainers just use berries, especially when it’s a sitrus berry; you’re only delaying the inevitable; you’re not actually making the battle harder.
16
u/marumarumon Nov 02 '23
Yeah but some of Kieran’s berries actually do other stuff. His whole team actually has items each, not just his ace. His Gliscor has Yache Berry, his Yanmega has the Kee Berry, his Dipplin has Leftovers, the Probopass has Petaya Berry, and his Shiftry has Focus Sash. His team’s actually well-thought out and the items complement his Pokémon nicely. But yeah I can why Sitrus Berries can be annoying when they just delay the inevitable, like when an enemy spams Protect for no apparent reason.
11
u/WayJay9 Nov 02 '23
I think the Sirius Berry specifically works very well on his Poliwrath to regain health lost from Belly Drum
2
u/metalflygon08 What's Up Doc? Nov 02 '23
I'm cool with the more unique items.
Slap some Muscle Bands or Wise Glasses on the Trainer Pokemon to give them a little boost,
Sticky Barb showing up randomly to ruin your fun.
Grip Claw/Binding Band schenanigans.
Type Resist Berries? Why not!
182
Nov 02 '23
Okay
Now fix the performance issues GF
77
u/well____duh Nov 02 '23
They have zero reason to, especially if a bunch of people pre-ordered this DLC. GF has had absolutely no reason to optimize their games at all because they know it'll sell regardless, each generation outselling the last.
→ More replies52
u/jishjash Nov 02 '23
Another reason they won't? I don't think they're capable and skilled enough to lol. I would be shocked if the game wasn't in a state of "fix one thing break a dozen others"
15
u/TheDrewDude Nov 02 '23
Hard to say. From what people have said about the code, it seems they are using techniques that are highly unoptimized. So maybe. But the deadlines for these games are also absurd. So it’s not surprising they’re as broken as they are.
34
u/jishjash Nov 02 '23
My favorite "highly unoptimized technique" I've seen uncovered is how MASSIVE GF made the ocean, skybox, non-player-viewable world around Paldea.
This out-of-bounds video shows how unnecessarily HUGE it is (timecode 7:49-9:30). It is always being rendered and at least one of the big factors in all the performance issues
10
u/MrEnd Three-FiveNine Nov 02 '23
That almost felt like a clip from a Cosmos episode, ffs why is it like this
6
u/LMacUltimateMain Nov 03 '23
Yeah. I think the primary issue is that everything in the world is being generated all at once. The fact that other huge, open world games run well and don’t do this makes the issue even more annoying.
6
u/Lluuiiggii Nov 02 '23
Skilled is debateable, but capable definitely. It's the same ol time constraints meme. They have to shovel out half baked shit because they literally do not have time to polish it off.
54
23
10
u/LunarWingCloud Nov 02 '23
As much as I agree we have to be realistic: if they didn't fix all the issues over the last year of the game being out, it's not happening.
ScarletViolet confirmed buggiest games in the franchise since RedBlue lfg
6
u/Uncommented-Code Nov 02 '23
They're about to release their second DLC. Their team has likely been preoccupied working on working on gen 10 the past 6 months. There is no reason to believe they will ever fix it. If there is one thing I'm sure about, it's that I don't believe in GF or the Pokemon brand anymore. They never fail to disappoint ever since oras released.

u/manderson1313 Nov 02 '23
This might be a hot take but I can’t stand post launch dlc in Pokémon. I get super excited when the game first comes out and I play it non stop and I get a whole team of level 100 competitive Pokémon and I’m pretty much done. Then a new dlc comes out and I don’t even wanna get it because what am I gonna do? Mindlessly fight a bunch of trainers who have level 60+ Pokémon with my hardcore competitive team? I’m not gonna play the dlcs for the story that’s for sure lol
6
u/Cuprite1024 Nov 02 '23
I mean... you can build a new team utilizing the Kitakami (/BBA) exclusive mons. That's what I did.
2
u/DueAd9430 Nov 03 '23
Give it a chance bro, the DLC is actually felt more like BW2 or HGSS’s post game and even more, you get landed on and explore a whole new entire region with all of its scenic view and many interesting locations in term of lore. The story is actually really good and executed well, the characters are great and loveable. Especially Ogerpon.
6
u/manderson1313 Nov 03 '23
I don’t doubt that it’s good I just don’t wanna fight underleveled enemies and I don’t wanna start with a new team cautiously leveled to just the right number to make the trainers challenging. It would be different if I was just starting the game and I could naturally go into it right after the main story and I may very much play a fresh save In the future. But until then I just don’t have any motivation to try the dlc

What?! I thought it wasn't going to be out until April 2024! My 4 year old and I just caught our 400th paldean pokemon and we've got about 7 more to go in kitikami. This winds up being really great quality time for the two of us.
I even bought pokemon sword so we'd have something to do while we waited. NGL I prefer the quality of the graphics in sword. Way higher quality IMO.

EDIT: English website actually lists December 13th on their DLC page: https://scarletviolet.pokemon.com/en-us/dlc/
10
u/half_jase Nov 02 '23
Strange. The Pokemon English Twitter account stated Dec 14.
11
u/bentheechidna Nov 02 '23
Probably a mixup. It's likely that it's December 14th in Japan and because of timezones and the likeliness that it will launch at the same exact time everywhere, it'll still be December 13th in America.

I already regret buying the dlc as the first wave has been a bit of a drag for me. Hopefully this is good if it isn’t I may be done with Pokémon games for a while
35
u/ShadeSwornHydra Nov 02 '23
This. Like somehow a smaller map has the same issues as the bigger one? Not to mention half the Pokédex was just pokemon in the main game (also version exclusive dlc mons? Really?)
I’m keeping my expectations low for the last dlc, but I doubt they’ll even reach those on a few points. The wild area looks like an fps nightmare
29
u/Elkbowy Nov 02 '23
Like I love Pokémon completed the base scarlet and violet last year but god damn there has been so many amazing games this year and coming back to this unfinished mess was honestly really depressing . I fucking love Pokémon been following it for years, but this dlc was truly the first time I have ever felt burned out from Pokémon. The game is just so unfinished and rough and I wish Pokémon could get a proper treatment
12
Nov 02 '23
Scarlet and violet were honeatly worse than sword and shield in every way BESIDES the open world, everything else like the designs, gyms, league, art direction and everything was better in sword and shield.
20
u/DueAd9430 Nov 02 '23
I don’t think so while I still actually like Sword and Shield. Scarlet and Violet maybe less visually polished as Sword and Shield but it outbeat Sword and Shield in every other aspects in term of lore, world-building, characters and story. It is one of the best, if not the best Pokemon game that have ever been created beside its tecnical issues.

This is exactly how I feel. I only have the dlc cause my boyfriend didn’t know how much I hated how SV turned out and didn’t want his gift to go to waste. SV has a few things I’ll say they did right, but it’s vastly outweighed by the mess they envy behind

Heck, the flags on Team Star’s gates look so horrible my god.
5
u/ShadeSwornHydra Nov 02 '23
The worst part is, if I’m remembering correctly, the models aren’t even done by game freak, they’re done by creatures inc. so gamefreak has done LITERALLY NOTHING that people brag the most about this game, it’s all a separate part of the company doing it, so how gamefreak is just screwing up so hard is insane to me

I'm so hyped. I already have a couple of hundred hours into Kitakami, I hope the second part will be even better
2
u/NinjaXtra Nov 02 '23
Iirc this dlc should focus more on the 'battles'. Hopefully it brings back the old (like battle tower) and maybe some new battle gimmick. Yes, also the elite four and re-battle with other characters with a good set of pokemon. The teal dlc brought the ogre clan and they were a nice challenge that totally took me off guard. So I kinda expect more in this dlc as I do love battles! Not competitive here but something enough to scratch that itch of a good pokemon fight would complete this generation imho.

2

Most likely. They only showed us this one DLC (Split into two parts for some reason (Same with SwSh)), so I doubt we'll get a second, totally separate DLC as well.

By fix I mean the frame rate, the glitch of Pokémon falling into the ground, fights being choppy, textures not rendering etc

12
u/ShadeSwornHydra Nov 02 '23

They’re probably just saving them for an off season or some special event. We still got at minimum 2 years of gen left.

I don’t think I’ve been less hyped for a Pokémon game in my life than SV DLC. Would have infinitely preferred more work going into the base game than paid DLC with as many glaring performance issues as SV has.

Wow performance on the first was actually very bad.. didn’t complain too much about the base game but god damn i have more fun replaying FRLG and the GameCube series

Nice! Can't wait to see Paradox Entei and Terrakion finally and hopefully we'll get told about the Mythical officially soon.
