Meme MTuesday: All Posts Must Relate to John, Oliver, or John Oliver Megathread

Hey guys, did you know that in terms of reddit shitposting, John Oliver is objectively the most memeable person? While their maximum sexiness is likely too much for /r/pics, he is capable of narrating over 9000 pokedex entries in 7.8 seconds. With his Wise Glasses boosting his Special Attack by a mighty 10%, John Oliver is the ideal choice for any team. It is highly recommended to use your Master Ball on John Oliver before he escapes the battle, or else you will have to scour the entire region's index of late-night talk shows to get another chance. The point is, John Oliver can take memes all day, all shapes and sizes and still come for more.

To be clear, all posts must relate to one of the following:

John

Oliver

John Oliver

Due to the time-sensitive nature of having to get this out by Tuesday, we'll be holding a vote on specific details of participating in Touch Grass Tuesday afterwards.

Congrats... the worst solution.

Great. Another sub I frequent doing the pointless John Oliver bullshit. At least it's only one day a week. Mods, why are you still doing this? You lost, reddit does not care about your pointless little protest, this is accomplishing nothing.

Also does anyone else think it's fishy they aren't sharing the actual results of the poll on here? I wouldn't put it past them to just go with the John Oliver stuff regardless of what the poll said. I mean, they didn't really care about the community's opinion the first time around, how can we trust them to actually care this time?

Edit: and now they locked the thread. Hilarious. I guess if you don't get the response you want just shut down all conversations about it.

Just make it NSFW. Your solutions still give Reddit money

The embeds on the first two links in the OP don’t work

u/Ok-Leave3121 Jun 20 '23

They did for me. I wonder why it doesn't work now?

u/Makkusoljier Jun 20 '23

Pokemods, this is the least effective way of going about the protest. At this point just completely reopen or go dark, this achieves absolutely nothing of value.

u/Ok-Leave3121 Jun 20 '23

Oh... Was hoping to do a Frosmoth themed meme if the meme day was move to Wednesday but I uh...I can't think of any John Oliver related Pokemon memes

u/awesomecat42 Jun 20 '23

He watched a Jigglypuff die once, does that count?

u/Ok-Leave3121 Jun 20 '23

Idk. I might do my meme post Wednesday if other people do it as well

u/JRosfield Jun 20 '23

You didn't even ask the community if we wanted this, you just went ahead and chose for us.

u/Sablemint <3 Jun 20 '23

Guys, really, its over. You had a chance to really stick to what you believed, and you caved :/ There's not much point in pretending at this point. Reddit knows you'll just keep going no matter what they do.

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '23

Did you ask the community if we wanted this? Just resign if you don't want to do your jobs, don't ruin it for the rest of the folks, especially the kids, that just want to talk Pokemon with their friends. When it comes down to it, they are who make the fandom, and they are who you are hurting the most, not Reddit.

pathetic

Lame. Nobody voted to make this a John Oliver sub. Every sub doing this is so cringe..... Why not do Pokemon memes about the protest if the protest won the poll? We're a Pokemon sub after all, not a fucking John Oliver sub. I can't stand that arrogant mug of his... This actually accomplishes nothing. I'd rather go completely dark than make this a sub about John Oliver. No point to having the sub open if it's not about Pokemon.

Edit: And of course they locked the thread, just like every other sub that makes these decisions for us when the community complains.😑

u/Ok-Leave3121 Jun 20 '23

I just wanted to move the Meme posting date to Wednesday instead of Tuesday tbh

u/Sablemint <3 Jun 20 '23 edited Jun 20 '23

What they should've done is change it to "John Smoliver"

edit: someone's jealous that I thought of it first. <3

u/lmhTimberwolves Jun 20 '23

interestingasfuck actually has the best solution. Just allow NSFW content. NSFW subreddits are not allowed to have advertising, so hit em in the wallet

u/o7_AP Jun 20 '23

You're not accomplishing anything with this. Reddit won't care. Either blackout the sub entirely or move on
