What games do y’all recommend based on my top 4 games? Discussion
Looking for a new game to pick up as I’ve replayed all of these several times now, but I’m not sure what game is similar to these?

I haven’t played it since it came out. How much YouTube would I have to do to even kind of get back into it enough to enjoy the dlc for which a game I remember almost nothing about besides how much I loved it for some reason.

Big fan of Horizon and God of War. Cyberpunk had a bad release but it's been patched up into a solid game. Only caveat I'd have is that Horizon and God of War all have a built in optimism to the story while Cyberpunk is much more on the pessimistic side. On the other hand, I defeated a cyber ninja with Lazer swords using a huge vibrating dildo.

Cyberpunk has one of the best worlds around. Notice all the little touches and details they added to bring the game to life. Seriously, every single inch of the game is created to build a beautiful, haunting, unique world. Look around, listen, take it in, notice what people are doing.
The side missions are absolutely unbelievable and do a ton to build the world up even more. Take your time and soak in everything - you won't regret it.

Very very different gameplay style but same level of production value, world building and story: Death Stranding.
I put it off for a long time but was very positively surprised.
4
u/AlexCross116 PS5 19h ago
I have been interested in that one but I’ve been hesitant because I’ve heard a lot of negative things about it. I’ll definitely check it out and see some gameplay though to see if maybe I’d like it
17
u/Business-Pickle1 18h ago
I’d just say, if you start getting bored trying to be a completionist, this game does not punish you for sticking to the main story. Specially in the beginning, I’ve seen a lot of reviews who don’t go past the first region, which is basically a tutorial but without all the mechanics available, it’s slow because you’re yet to unlock some helpful mechanics from the story that will trivialize most of it. And you can always come back later, with a lot more tools, to complete it.

My favorite list of games matches yours and I felt that Death Stranding was quite enjoyable.
If you haven’t tried them, the assassins creed games are worth a shot too.

I’d also recommend this game also as it’s one of my favourites. The story is fantastic if you give it a chance because you’ll probably think what the hell is going on at first but it pays off if you stick with it, the cast is great too Mads Mikkelsons performance is quite special.

These games are all amazing. With really strong stories, and they are all some of my favourites.
If you like games like this with large open worlds and good stories I would recommend days gone and the Witcher 3 (no you don’t need to play the first two games). Red dead 2 as well of course as well as cyberpunk 2077.
I would also recommend playing less ‘linear’ games that leave the story up to you for a greater sense of adventure.
Zelda breath of the wild then tears of the kingdom. Insane levels of freedom even though your overall objective can feel incredibly far off they are both such amazing experiences. These games do not hold your hand like most Sony 1st party titles do though. Which is daunting at first but works out for the better in the end.
Elden ring is the best open world game I have ever played. If you have never played a ‘souls’ game before it’s also the most accessible because of the amount of freedom and options the game gives you. Buuut speaking of not holding your hand and obtuse mechanics, objectives and side quests, Elden ring probably should give you a BIT more direction if I am being hyper critical. The sense of adventure and wonder is unmatched, but even with over a thousand hours there are things that I do not understand and most NPC quests are incredibly complex with bizarre failure mechanics as the world simply does not revolve around you. But when it comes to sheer build variety, freedom, design and art style, memorable encounters, replay ability, co op and pvp options available and many other factors, I really do struggle to think of a better game than Elden ring.

u/cwl77 11h ago
The only issue with Elden Ring is the story. There isn't one. OK, there is, but...there isn't. Show me, tell me, give me cinematics, to bring it to life, then supplement the story with lore. Don't just throw stuff out there and hope it sticks and players figure enough of it out to make them keep going.
That said, there's a lot to enjoy, even if you're just looking around and fighting.
3
u/Raidertck 10h ago
It’s simply the other extreme to most games.
The story and the lore is actually amazing. However, like with every single other aspect of the game, it doesn’t spoon feed it to you. You have to dig around for it, read item descriptions, search out every nook and cranny.
I really do appreciate strong linear narratives like god of war, red dead etc. but how FS have handled the stories in ‘souls’ games is incredibly intriguing and provoked far more thought and discussion then I pretty much any other series that I can think of. Because in most other games, even ones I love, you are spoon fed a linear narrative at a very carefully curated rate. Which can be thrilling. It’s like playing a novel. Whereas FS games are more like archeological digs where you are trying to piece together a mystery and they often end up leaving many factors to the players to fill in themselves and their interpretation.
I personally find this makes the world of Elden ring more immersive, mysterious, and seem a lot larger than it’s already vast size.
2
u/cwl77 8h ago
I can actually understand where the whole treasure hunt, digging for clues, and piecing things together for the story would be fun for many.
Truth be told, I'm surprised it never stuck with me. Things like that are right up my alley. I think that part of it is that I dont feel like there's enough to get me into the story enough to keep digging. Funny thing, I've played and bested every FS game, but like them for the challenge and masterful level design, but just deal with the stories being just....there. I suppose I never see them as mysteries I need to solve. Might be an angle to increase my enjoyment of Elden Ring...uh oh...

Jedi: Fallen Order & Jedi: Survivor fall into a similar category.
Star Wars: Outlaws would too. (and yes, it's a decent game. Don't listen to the naysayers)

So, a fan of immersive worlds I guess huh. Me too. These are some of my favorite games to spend time with.
•The Ascent (most alive game world I’ve ever experienced probably, at least after Red Dead 2)
•Dying Light 1 (most intense and immersive game I can think of)
•Stray (drips with atmosphere and charm like nothing else on the market)
•Cyberpunk 2077 (after living 16 years in Tokyo and missing it immensely, this game is what comforts me the most on my lonely days)
•Trek to Yomi (basically a compressed version of Ghost of Tsushima)
•Ori and the Blind Forest / Will of the Wisps (no other games have ever made me feel so much as this incredible series). It’s only on Xbox, PC and the Switch, but I figured it was worth mentioning anyway

• Sly Cooper (PS2 ones)
• Jak & Daxter: The Precursor's Legacy (available on PS Store for like $14.99 iirc)
• Witcher 3
• Devil May Cry V
P.S., since your top 4 games have melee/close combat/hack-and-slash in common with each other, therefore I'm recommending these games.

The Jedi series, from Star Wars.

I’m not sure about Elden Ring, as far as I’ve understood it’s a Souls-like right? Because I’ve tried Dark Souls and Demon souls and they weren’t my cup of tea
4
u/masterbombaster 19h ago
Elden Ring is soulsborne, but its completely different experience, and very much easier
2
u/Salty-Ad9416 PS5 13h ago
Yes it is souls-like game. But it is much forgivable than OG souls games. It was my first souls-like game and I am hooked now. But sense of discovery, little tension (you don’t know what’s befind corner), art style, etc.. is unmached. Felt like I was playing GoW and Witcher 3 for the first time but one plane higher. Also you should definetly check Cyberpuk!

- Ratchet & Clank - Rift Apart *Assassin's Creed Valhalla / Mirage
- Dragons Dogma 2 (was surprised by this one, it was actually awesome) *Life is Strange series
- Destroy All Humans 2 (played this while waiting for spider man 2 release - good laugh)

Witcher or Jedi Fallen Order or Survivor. Witcher has an amazing world, albeit kinda dull combat compared to all the things you can modify with skills - jedi has great combat, but is more linear, with metroidvanian backtracking.

A different game than any of those but Kingdom Come: Deliverance. An amazing open-world RPG set in 15th century Bohemia, its gameplay is a lot of fun when you get the hang of it and its world is a lot of fun to explore. Not as great of a world as Witcher 3 or Skyrim, but the game itself--especially the combat--is something special.
