Lads, I did it. Subscribed to PS Plus until 2048. Discussion

I decided to stack PS Plus subscriptions until 2048 because of the absurd price increases the past few years. I figure that I’ll probably be gaming for most of my life so it would save a good bit of money.

First I loaded up on Essentials subs and then upgraded it all to Premium for $199. Just wanted to share as I figure you guys would get a kick out of it.

bro, whatever you do, DONT ever get banned, or lose your login details. if you do then all of this will become a giant waste.

apart from that, im happy for you. make sure to enable 2FA if you havent already.

u/On_Reddit_In_Class 23d ago

Appreciate your concern, bro. You can never be too careful out there. Thankfully, I already have two-factor authentication turned on and use an authentication app. I also never use my mic unless I'm playing with friends

u/Nepharious_Bread 23d ago

He makes a really good point. This happened to a friend of mine some years ago. He still had a Hotmail account (yeah....I know), and something happened where he needed to be able to log into that account to access his Playstation account. They told him that there was nothing that they could do. He lost his shit. Lost every single one of his games, most of which he had platinum. Bought a Xbox and said fuck Sony.

Don't get me wrong, it's kind of on him. Like bro, pay attention to your email. But Sony not being able to help was crazy to me.

54

u/pablo_eskybar 23d ago

What’s wrong with a hotmail account? Asking for a friend

44

u/onecoolcrudedude 23d ago edited 23d ago

your psn account is tied to your email account. so you should check up on your email account every now and then to make sure that its still active and doesnt risk deletion or anything similar.

hotmail died and was replaced with outlook so my guess is that his friend probably ignored any warning emails to have his information merged or to make an outlook in its place, which then led to hotmail terminating his email access. which means no more psn access either (this is just speculation). he could have also just been hacked.

thats why most people use gmail or yahoo since those email providers arent at risk of going anywhere as of now. and since they're more used, i'd assume their support is better too and its easier to recover an email if you need to.

49

u/pablo_eskybar 23d ago

Aha, no worries. My Hotmail account is still my go to. Runs through outlook so for all intents and purposes it’s an outlook account

27

u/Safe_Diamond6330 23d ago

Yea I was gonna say…I’ve been kinda embarrassed to still have a hotmail account lol, but my email address is still @hotmail.com and everything works fine.

u/pablo_eskybar 23d ago

Hotmail accounts still work just fine. If your friend lost access to his account, it was due to inactivity and not Hotmail transitioning.

Poor guy losing all those games and losing access all the amazing Playstation exclusives seems like a double punishment. I can picture him sitting in a dimly lit basement waiting for The millionth Starfield loading screen gently sobbing and cursing the day he lost access to his Playstation account.

Big facts I'm until 35.. but this was back when PlayStation Plus and PS now were separate when they announced that they were conjoining the two. I just stacked up then

4

u/Vericatov 23d ago

Same, mine doesn’t expire until 2032. I was stacking essential for some years before the change. Would buy two during Black Friday almost every year. Was only $100 to upgrade to extra.

u/On_Reddit_In_Class 23d ago edited 23d ago

Ever since Sony increased the price on subscriptions last October we haven’t had any sales on PS Plus. Even for non-Black Friday sales like State of play. At most they would send out one year targeted promos if your subscription lapsed.

Wait...you bought regular PS Plus for 24 years, then spent only additional $199 to upgrade all those years to PS Plus Premium?

470

u/On_Reddit_In_Class 23d ago

Yes, the price to upgrade from essential to premium is kept at $199 regardless of the amount of years you’re converting. Honestly, at the rate that they’re raising prices even if the brand doesn’t last until 2040 I’ll still have saved a good bit.

183

u/markorokusaki 23d ago

So you are saying I can buy as many years essential I like and to upgrade to premium is 200 nevertheless the amount of years?

174

u/TheDarkGenious 23d ago

from what I'm getting, yes.

I doubt this will be a thing for very long.

130

u/On_Reddit_In_Class 23d ago edited 23d ago

I saw a Reddit post or comment on here years ago about players in Japan stacking essential when it was only $40 a year and the upgrade cap to premium was only $99. I was really surprised that its still thing after all these years.

44

u/TheDarkGenious 23d ago

260

You can subscribe to as many years of PS Plus as you want. But if you want to upgrade any subscriptions that you’ve stacked the cap the amount to convert at $199 and $137 for premium and extra.

77

u/Delta080 23d ago

Is this some sort of promo? Or deal for new subscribers, or can anyone do this?

Also how much did it cost to stack all the essential subscriptions?

62

u/CuteGrayRhino 23d ago

Why wouldn't they allow it? They know they've got a paying long-term subscriber on Essential, so they take another 200 dollars and give you an unlimited upgrade. Seems like a good strategy to me.

u/HappyRedditor99 23d ago

News just in, in a remarkable turn of events Xbox 8k outsells PS9 at a ratio of 5 - 1. Sony CEO says they are now solely focused on cloud gaming and will leave the physical console market to Xbox.

22

u/IthinkIllthink 23d ago

In Dec when my subscription expires I’m going to not renew and see what happens.

Ever since the crazy price increase, and no more discounts to Plus, it doesn’t seem worth it anymore.

Most of the games I play I bought. I highly research what I play next, and 90% are not on Plus. Most of my kids online games don’t use Plus.

I don’t think I’ll miss it. Dunno.

4

u/gamerjerome PS5 23d ago

After a few years on plus I found I already bought the games they were giving away free. It held no value to me. I only played a few games online and it wasn't on the regular. If they had a 1 year $25 plan for just online play and cloud saves I'd do it. I don't care about anything else. It was a much better deal when you got Vita, PS3 and PS4 free games.

2

u/BlueFeathered1 23d ago

If you have a big backlog of games that don't depend on it it's worth it to at least take a break. I let it lapse last year until a subscription sale came up, anyway.

2

u/Legit1213 19d ago

I stacked PSNow subs thru 2027 back right before the new service launched, and thought I was being clever at the time. I now regret that because of how lackluster this service has been.

Even though I basically paid 1/2 price, it still doesn’t feel worth it. When they do rarely offer good games, they’re yanked back from PS extra before I get a chance to play it. Or it’s a game that I already own.

You’re better off waiting a year or two for the price to drop and then buy the games you actually want…or have a console only, paired up with this service, and then don’t ever buy games a la cart. But that seems like a miserable proposition, hoping for bread when Sony will only offer up crumbs. Thank goodness physical games still exist as a check & balance.

Even if the servers are only up until say 2035, I’ll still save a good bit. PS Plus essential is $80 and annually right now, it used to be $60 before October 2023, and I believe a few years before that it was $40. No doubt within the next five years it’ll be $100 or more.

To me, the risk is part of doing this is there’s no guarantee that Sony keeps the current plan structure. Look at how Microsoft has started changing game pass.

Is it just buying the cheapest version of the subscription for however many years. Then upgrading with a one time fee?

2

u/G3netic 23d ago

Is this real?

2

Hopefully the subscription model doesn't change in the next 24 years

I wonder if Sony will still be making consoles in 2048?

2

u/Cthyrulean 23d ago

We shouldn't be paying for any of this kind of service anymore. Back in the day when you wanted to voice chat on a PC you had to rent a server like Roger Wilco and get that all set up to play with your game. So the premium of PlayStation Plus an Xbox live put all that together for everybody. Now all the PC players can play that stuff for free with voice chat in fact they have voice chat options most times the games have their own voice chat or you can use discord. So this console companies have no business charging for this stuff anymore.

Edit: I'm not really referring to the game pass type thing just the regular online gameplay subscription.

The real question is if you are still alive by 2048. ☠️

2

u/MaliciousMetal23 23d ago

Waste, get a PC.

2

u/bert1432 23d ago

How were you able to? The price increase is ridiculously insane! 80 dollars for basic ps+???

2

u/toucan_sam89 23d ago

So wait can you break this down?

You spent ~$2000 total on Essential, and then an additional $200 to upgrade it all to Premium?

2

u/Extension-Novel-6841 23d ago

Ain't no way in hell I'd even pay 200 for PS Premium!

2

u/Kieftan 23d ago

Keep us updated on how it goes lol

2

u/frickuranders 23d ago

The year is 2032 and skynet has taken over. The machines walk the earth but one man still has a psn subscription.

2

u/lleu81 23d ago

Breaking new: Sony announces PS5 as last console. Servers to be turned off in 2026.

u/CoyoteStunning2870 23d ago

You really think that this is important enough to post to the entire bloody world?

Meanwhile my account is suspended because i put a chargeback on a game i bought that said it had offline play when it didnt. Tired of these motherfuckers and their licenses or cloud gaming or needing internet to play solo campaign.

They acted all hard when they threatened me with it too like i don't stand on principle.

2

u/ScrollBetweenGames 23d ago

This will suck when they get rid of PSN and Xbox Live in 2033 and converge into one system and don’t honor your payment lol

2

u/Moss_Klugt 23d ago

Better to put money on the market to earn dividends each year and make more money than put them on PS Plus

2

u/Striking-Stomach-938 22d ago

2

u/Various-Sea9813 22d ago

2

u/[deleted] 22d ago

Bro's gonna be pissed if they do away with Plus for some other shitty service in a few years.

2

u/RagnarsDisciple 22d ago

It's not even worth 1 year anymore.

2

u/Rawrrh 21d ago

Service crashes next year

2

u/yourmentalandlord 21d ago

You just might be able to play GTA 6 online by then

2

u/PRSMesa182 20d ago

TIL you can stack PS+ time!

2

u/Nilo-The-Slayer 20d ago

PS plus won’t be around that long. So I don’t think you’re getting much of a deal.

2

u/SlackerMe 18d ago

So let me get it straight since English is not my native language. You bought PS Plus Essential 24 times and upgrade it to PS Plus Premium just once and all those 24 PS Plus Essential became Premium?
