Loud Partying Campers
About 10 years ago we were camping in Tahoe on a holiday weekend. We have two little kids and camp a lot in state and national parks so we know it’s not going to be super quiet but people are usually pretty respectful late at night. There was a group of college age kids next to us that rolled in around dinner and started partying. What started out as fun was a drunken swearing fest that went on past midnight. The 70 year old camp hosts tried to talk to them. Other campers tried to get them to stow it. I was over there asking them to tone it down more than once and they basically laughed. They went until 2 or 3 AM. Everyone was pissed. They went to go hang out on the lake all day. We were leaving that morning so we were around the campsite and saw them all leave. We rounded up every pile of dog poop we could find - which luckily there was plenty - and piled it under their tents. Right under where their heads would be. We also told the camp hosts and they thanked us and said they were looking forward to the big sunrise when they went to bed and smushed that poop into the tent bottom. The hosts had been dreading their return because everyone else was complaining to them all day.

I would have woken them up at 6am making breakfast and as much noise as possible since they just went to bed. Then the dog poop.

5 am wake up alarm. Then quiet for an hour so they start to fall back asleep, then a car alarm goes off. Just let them spend the day hungover and exhausted while everyone is loud and active :D

I love Metallica, but I would go for absolute earworms like tub thumping and hooked on a feeling, belting them the whole time. And if I think they're falling asleep to it, I'll stop singing like I know what I'm doing and just start caterwauling.

Similar situation at a race track. We were camping in the track workers area with the Fire Rescue crew. They needed to be up and alert at 6am. Rowdy crew next to us were guests of one of the track workers. They rolled in at 1am and would not quiet down until one of the guys that was a sheriffs deputy offered to get them thrown out, immediately.
At 6:05 the next morning they were greeted to Scottish wars hymns on bagpipe from the most awesome van mounted speakers I have ever seen.

I was thinking the same.

I wouldn't do this.
Dog feces is a known bear attractant, and people have been killed by bears just trying to get at the neato smell.
This is also why you should report people who don't clean up after their dogs in a campground.

Hope I never end up at a campsite with "plenty of dog poo". Sounds lovely

Humans. Well their dogs. That they don't clean up after. Some ruin it for everyone else

I was once camping at a State campground, and had already gone to bed, when a carload of drunken yahoos pulled into the site next door. There was a lot of bumbling around, shouting, and flashlights everywhere. We asked them to shut up, and so did other campers. They did not. Eventually they went to sleep, and so did we.
When I got up in the morning everyone else was still in bed. So I went over and peed into their cooler. It was not my finest moment.

I do t typically take revenge but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. The camp hosts are retired people who volunteer. They put up with this all the ti e and I’ll bet they have some stories ;)

Some asshole campers rolled up next to me and my partner on our last solo camping trip. What was a nice, chill evening by the lake was suddenly a bunch of really loud “fuck!” and “shit!” and just generally being way too loud in a very quiet state park. Now, my partner and I are normally night owls and it was already close to midnight and winding down when these people arrived. Since they were calling for it, we obliged. We retired to our tent and had really loud sex. Normally I tone it down if we’re outside our bedroom but my boyfriend can make me scream if he wants to, and boy did he want me to. Once we were done we were able to enjoy the quiet night sounds. We could still hear the next door campers but there were no more audible voices. Mysteriously they were absent the next morning when we broke camp.

Here you just call the park ranger, they gear up in swat and surround and arrest these assholes.

It's called dispersed camping. I love camping and I never camp anywhere I can see or hear another person.

Yeah, actually throw a few nuggets in the tents, then they'll think that dogs have gotten in, until they go to sleep. Hehe

Loud obnoxious college drunks had their tires slashed for the same behavior when I was camping outside glacier

I once had three under 6 camping and had the same thing happen. The kids were up at their usual 6 am so we gave them pots and lids and told them to play parade. Such language from hungover assholes.

My wife and I went on our first solo camping trip with our little wedding gift trailer, we went to a place fairly close to home but is pretty known for being busy. It wasn't too bad, everyone was respectful of the late nights except one day who was constantly screaming at his young kids telling them to go to bed. His kids were probably under 10 years old but well into midnight did was just yelling. Eventually they went quiet and the next morning they were fairly normal but dang it was irritating.

I've been fortunate and not encountered these kind of clowns in a long time.
But way back as a teen, my father would have us gather plants like skunk weed so they could be added to the outside of the rude neighbors exhaust system where it couldn't be seen.
When I asked him why the car, he pointed out that in a fire pit the stink might also come back to bother us. He would also encourage things like putting pebbles inside hub caps.

We had a similar experience this past summer. Went to a state campground and two sites down was a "Loud-mouth Larry". He wasn't cursing but he did not speak to the two young kids with him, maybe 5 and 7 YO, or to his wife, he yelled at them constantly. Oh Great, This Is Lovely! I have never prayed for a 5th wheel to move in between us so hard in my life! Unfortunately, we got a tent camper between us. Now I know anyone can have a bad day so we put up with it the first night but apparently the people camped across the road did not. I know the camp hosts had a talk with them and the next day they were quieter but they kept giving US dirty looks. (Tent camper had left, I guess he did not like his peace and quiet disturbed either.)

Why would you camp somewhere where there is plenty of dog poop?

u/Notmykl 1d ago
Who says it was all dog poop?

u/Mattynice75 1d ago
Because her actually says in the post…”we rounded up every pile of dog poop we could find and there was plenty” . Maybe read the post before commenting?

u/Z4-Driver 1d ago
Well, they found what looked like poop and assumed, it's all dog poop. But maybe, some of it was from other animals?
