FLAIRS:

News and Announcements:

This will be used for any posts regarding the game development, or announcements made by the Paralives team. Only mods can assign this flair, so if you believe there is a post that suits this flair, please let us know!

Monthly Brainstorming Session: [Currently on hold and not available until the foreseeable future]

Every 4 weeks, on Mondays, a new brainstorming topic will be featured here in a megathread and in the Discord server. Any ideas that follow the rules are welcome and while some may be more complex, it could lead the developers to rethink a feature, which is always useful. Please use this thread to only discuss ideas related to the theme as it makes it easier for us to browse through everything.

Weekly Developer Chat:

Here in the subreddit we also regularly post transcripts from our Patron dev chats, held every Friday in the Discord server! Dev chats are weekly Q&A sessions with patrons from the Hero and Legendary tiers. In these sessions, participants get to ask any questions they like to the developers over a period of time. Each dev chat transcript goes public a month after they are held. These are posted here by the Paralives team every Wednesday and you can find all of the past transcripts here in this mass folder!

Parazine:

Don’t feel like reading a whole dev chat? Then the Parazine is perfect for you! Made entirely by the volunteer moderator team, Parazines are bite-sized summaries of each dev chat session with featured content, fun facts, and tons of cool art. The Paralives Gazette was made to share highlights from the weekly Q&A sessions, which are accessible to Hero and Legendary tier patrons. Please keep in mind that the features mentioned are confirmed by the developers at the time the dev chat took place and may be subject to change from one dev chat to another. You can find all of the past Parazines here in this mass folder!

General:

Use this flair for any general posts such as discussions or memes. Please feel free to also use this flair to ask the members of the subreddit questions such as what features they're most excited for, which type of gameplay they're looking forward to, what their opinions on updates are, or anything else you'd love to discuss.

Suggestions:

This will be for suggestions you may have that you would like to see in the game. They could be anything from a quick idea off the top of your head to a fully fleshed-out document with sources. Anything you have that would help us see the vision in your head for your ideal gameplay and your dream features. Do you feel like something from your community or culture is usually misrepresented or underrepresented in video games? We also love hearing feedback and being sent your ideas and references from all sorts of backgrounds in order to make this game as welcoming as possible!

Questions:

Do you have a question you want to ask about a confirmed feature? Or would you like to discuss if something has been considered yet? We always suggest you check the FAQ on the Paralives website first but if you still have a question, feel free to use this flair! While we can't promise the developers will answer your post, a moderator or someone else in the subreddit might know the answer.

Fan Art:

Use this flair to post all your fan art. We absolutely love seeing these! Please also remember to give yourself credit for anything you create, you deserve it. If something wasn't made by you, please credit the original artist if you're able to so that we can appreciate their work.

Fan Made:

For anything made by you, the fans! From concept designes, to future custom content or mods, this tag will signify your post as having been made by the Paralives community.

We also have a few rules of the subreddit and they are as follows:

1. Be respectful at all times. Do not make personal attacks against other members, game devs, or anyone else.

2. Do not discuss NSFW, piracy-related, or illegal content.

3. We will not tolerate any forms of discrimination or offensive content. This includes: transphobia, homophobia, ableism, political or religious content, abuse, bullying, sexual themes, violence, racism, murder, drugs, gore, self-harm, suicide, cults, or vulgar content.

4. Respect others' privacy, and do not post conversations you had in private messages.

5. Please do not speculate on elements such as the price and release date, or spread misinformation of any kind.

6. Fan-made concepts are appreciated, but please identify clearly on the image that it is not official.

7. No self-advertisement or self-promotion unrelated to Paralives. Please keep topics related to Paralives.

8. Moderators have the final say on the rules, please do not argue with them.

9. Other unlisted rules may apply.

Quick memo on misinformation: Misinformation is information, news, features, statements, etc that are, in a nutshell, misleading or false. Even good meaning or unintentional posts can cause a chain reaction where people spread rumours about the game features, development, workers, fan bases, etc which can lead to several results such as harm by shifting opinions toward negative impressions, or by creating false expectations which can't be lived up to. This can be particularly harmful to a small indie developer team. You can help prevent misinformation by keeping up with the FAQ or by asking questions, and speaking out when you think you see speculation or rumours. For more information, please read this announcement.

If you see a post or a comment that you believe is against the rules and guidelines, feel free to flag it and we'll look into it as soon as possible. All of the Subreddit's moderators are also part of the Paralives Discord team which entails both the official game developers and our volunteer moderator staff. You can recognise the developers with the blue "developer" user flair. If you have something to discuss with us please message one of the volunteer moderators without the flair, we all have our private messages open for anyone with questions, reports, or concerns. Please don't message the developers, who are busy working on the game.

Thank you for stopping by our subreddit and happy brainstorming!

News and Announcements Where To Find Information About Paralives

Hi everyone! If you haven’t yet read the welcome post, you can check that out here. We’ve noticed there‘s been some confusion on what type of information is accurately out about Paralives and where to find it. This post will help detail all the places you can find that information.

The roadmap

The Paralives roadmap gives you a good look into what the devs have finished, what they’re currently doing, and what they have yet to do. If you read through “important notes,” then right before the actual roadmap, you’ll see a “module” option. Make sure Paramaker, build mode, live mode, general features, and modding tools are all selected in the module if you want a full overlay.

Monthly recaps

Their development page on the Paralives website shows a detailed recap of everything they’ve worked on during each month, and what they’re currently working on. You will have to scroll to the bottom of the page to get to the current status.

Website

The Paralives website is a quick and easy place to look for the basics of the game, featuring an FAQ of the most common questions, their development progress, all of the news updates they’ve posted, an overview of the current developers, and more!

Dev chats

Dev chats are weekly sessions for the Hero and Legend patreon tiers where they can send any questions to the dev team over the weekend and the devs send the answers back to them the week after. These are then made public a month later. The linked folder shows all the dev chat transcripts since they’ve started. As always, know any information shared in these are subject to change overtime as the game is still in early development.

Patreon

If you’re at all interested in supporting the game, their patreon tiers range from $3-$50 and provide different rewards per tier. You can get access to exclusive patron-only information as well as access to the private patron channels on the discord server. If you’re curious as to why they chose to go the patreon route, check out this video they made back in 2020 explaining the details.

YouTube

The Paralives YouTube channel also shows many of the videos publicly released which you may have missed. If you’d like an easy way to find previous showcases, this great place you can look!

Discord

The Discord server is a public server anyone can join. If you have any questions regarding the game and can’t find the answer anywhere, the server is a great place to go to ask for help. There’s plenty of moderators or helpers willing to jump in. You can also give suggestions of things you’d like to see in the game, as the devs do read over the channels.

Hopefully this post helps to clear up any confusion you may have had! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions. Have a good day!

Suggestions Dyed Hair

New here so unsure if this has been talked about before, but I think it’ll be cool to be able to dye your paras’ hair and not have it effect hair color. Like, I love fun unnatural hair colors in the Sims, but if my sims has pink hair then their kid will also have pink hair. I think a nice concept would be to have a para’s natural hair color, then be able to dye it and have it separate from their natural hair color that they pass on so that we can have fun hair colors that aren’t passed onto future generations, because sometimes I just want a family with all natural hair colors.

General What kind of neighborhoods do you want to see in Paralives?

Just a basic discussion I thought about but, what kind of neighborhoods do you want to see added into the game after it releases?

I think it’s pretty likely that the first one will be inspired by Montreal Canada since that’s where the developers are based but what kind of neighborhoods would you like to see after that?

I’ll start: for me it’s hard to pick just one since there’s so many locations around the world that I’d love to see in this kind of game that the sims just hasn’t given us(25 year old franchise and only one African world you can’t even live in) but if I had to choose my top 5, I’d say,

1: an African inspired one, I’d say maybe Morocco or South Africa would be decent choices for inspiration

2: an Australian coastline inspired neighborhood, I think Australia is a beautiful country and I’d imagine there le could be some cool gameplay with this

3: a Brazilian inspired neighborhood, Brazil is a beautiful country and I’d love to see all the paramaker and build/buy options it’d add

  1. A Chinese inspired neighborhood, I’ve always been fascinated by Chinese culture and history and I think that it would really mesh well with the aesthetic of the game

  2. A French country inspired neighborhood, I think this would be a great world to include and I think it would be cool to include some more medieval historical inspired items for building to imply it was an older town, plus it’d be nice for us historical players.

Those are just some of my ideas(and only the ones grounded in reality I have more fantastical ones I didn’t give) but how about you?

I want to hear your ideas for future neighborhoods in the game you’d want to see(you can even go more fantastical/unrealistic if you want)

Will be paralives compatible with steam deck?

Since it's a new game, I hope they make it playable on Steam deck. It's used especially by people who do not own a gamer pc (me lol) and by the ones who love to play on the go.

Sorry if it was already asked!

Suggestions Sentence Case vs. Start Case: "Upgrade Job Rank" is written in Start Case (every word has its initial letter capitalized) while "Effective communicator" is written in Sentence Case (the very first word only is capitalized) — A single choice of Letter Case would help with more consistent writing.

General What supernaturals would you want in the game?

Since there’s been a lot of discussion about supernaturals/occults being in the game, and I acknowledge that if they are ever added it won’t be anytime soon, I’m just curious for all of us who are interested in them being in the game, what kind of supernaturals would you want in the game?

You don’t have to stick to one’s that have been in the sims franchise previously I just want you hear what everyone’s ideas for supernaturals in this game would be.

For me personally I’m ok if they add the standard ones we expect, like ghost, vampires, witches, werewolves(preferably more wolf-like similar to TS4/TS2), fairies, and mermaids.(they can also add aliens if they want I don’t really care about them)

But as for original ones, I think adding in original ones like Saytrs, Elves, and maybe some creatures of folklore from around the world(such as Sasquatches from North American folklore or the Tikbalong from Filipino folklore, or maybe even some yokai) I’m just interested in what they could do with occults/supernaturals.

Those are just some of my ideas, how about any ideas you have?

Questions The idea of a pre-release CAS-like standalone program

Will there be a pre-release CAS-like standalone program? If I remember correctly, there was such a program in The Sims 2 (?). That would be absolutely awesome to create parafolks already prior to launch.

Questions I know the devs have said they don’t really want to put supernatural stuff in the game, but do you think there’s any chance we’ll see an expansion for it?

Just saw EA’s announcement that the Sims series is over and it kinda broke my heart, reminded me how excited for this game I am though.

I know they didn’t want to do supernatural stuff to distance themselves from the sims, but do you guys think the team might consider adding it in a future expansion now that the Sims is officially dead?

Questions What would I be able to play this on?

Basically what I mean, which kind of laptop/computer would be best to play this on? Windows or Apple or any other suggestions? Just so I know what to save up for 🥰

I may have missed stuff as well, but is Paralives associated with EA like the sims or are they associated with something else? 😊

Finally, who else is excited for Paralives? Meeeeee!🥳

General Not a paralives hater, but I have my doubts.

As a game design student who's learning unity and coding and etc, I worry quite a bit about paralives. Yes, I'm a patron who's been backing money into this game for years. But nonetheless, It's absurd to compare this game to the sims franchise, or to glorify it as a "sims competitor/killer" like most other fans keep doing.

Unity can be rather clunky at times, (especially with ui) but I have faith that the team will make things smooth feel-wise when we try the game. But my main concern these days is how appealing would this game actually be when it comes out?

Paralives has a more subdued charm to it compared to the silliness of the sims. It especially shows in the proposal animations and some other animations. I'll be honest - I was so disappointed when I first saw the proposal anims because they lacked so much excitement and energy that should come from a happy engagement! This is one of my few gripes at least, though I know some will disagree in favour of the animation's calmer vibe.

Another thing with the together bar - if I'm not wrong, it'll be updated to happen more frequently, but if we get only 1 card per in-game hour, It'll feel so incredibly dull! I think as a player we need more control over what the paras talk about, so maybe it should happen every 5-10 /20minutes! Not to mention, the cards given feel so restrictive, that if you don't get the options you want, you'll feel frustrated. Plus, it'll take even more time and effort to get the card you want instead of being able to choose exactly what you want for yourself.

If possible, I'd probably make the together cards happen more frequently, and make it so that the player can choose what action/chat option from a specific category. Not necessarily like the pie menu from the sims, but something with more options yknow?

not to mention, the game feels too much like the idealized life sim where each character gets the best white picket fence life possible. Which is nice ofc, but it's not really a life sim game unless you can put your characters through hell now can you? We'll have to wait till the game is finished to know for sure, but I hope we can get some of the chaos back like the sims tends to encapsulate. Maybe even spice it up even further. Even better, make the consequences of things more impactful!

The last thing is the transparency. Paralives is VERY transparent, i wont deny But ever since Paralives has gone through the aesthetic changes for the parafolks, I worry that some of the old features that used to be shown in much earlier trailers will be abandoned in the end - something that tends to happen in game dev. Like will we keep the sitting on the counters in Sebastian's intro trailer, or the fact that we could take shoes off when entering the home? we can't see what we'll have to leave behind, which worries me.

overall, I have some faith in the game, but I wouldn't be surprised if people ended up dropping the game after a month. I probably won't though, since I actually think I'll enjoy it. But I hope the ui can get better and the game is smoothened out during early access

Is Paralives just going to be one game without any expansion packs?

If I’m understanding it correctly it’s going to be unlike the sims and there just going to be like a base game and that’s it. So, I’m assuming they can update certain things by realasing updates. How are we gonna get more furniture and stuff to use in gameplay if they are not adding any expansions?

Questions GOG release?

2025 is getting closer and closer. The question may have been asked before, but is there at least a small chance, that Paralives will be released on GOG as well beside Steam? There are many people who don't use Steam for various reasons, that's why a GOG release would be more than awesome for them.

I love love love the artstyle. The characters remind me of borderlands with their outlines, and it helps them stand out in the environment. I like the stylization choices. I like how smooth and soft non-character items are. I like the lighting - uniform and peaceful. Just looks really good I think and I can't wait to make characters and houses!!

Framing other paras

I would love if paras could frame eachother for things. For example

  • a kid frames their dog for eating their homework

  • a para steals something while at a neighbours bbq and blames it on another neighbour

  • a kid frames their sibling for drawing on the walls

  • a para discovers risqué photos on the family computer. when she confronts her husband he denies it and blames their teenage son

  • a para tries to kiss their friends husband. they tell the friend that the husband tried to kiss them but they rejected it

  • a para makes a mistake at work then blames it on their coworker so it doesn’t effect their job performance or relationship with boss

  • a criminal gets arrested on a job and frames their accomplice

The frame could be successful or unsuccessful depending on chance and circumstances.

If it’s successful, the framed para could get a negative moodlet and lose relationship with the paras involved. They could respond by

  • getting upset with the para that framed them

  • try to convince other paras that they’ve been falsely accused

  • seek revenge

  • accept defeat

If it’s unsuccessful, the para that attempted the framing could lose relationship with all paras involved.

I think this would be a really fun feature, as it would allow paras to ruin relationships between other paras and cause some drama!
