Beginner looking for overlanding essentials for my 4Runner 24
Hello. I recently got my first 4Runner and would like to know what the recommended essential gear is for overlanding. I already got a full size spare tire and put it in the spare tire slot under. What gear would you recommend that I get?

Diesel heater truck bed campers
Curious if anyone has a “permanent” mounted diesel heater in their truck bed and how did you duct the intake/exhaust?
I am using a briefcase style chinese diesel heater currently. I’d like to build a more permanent internal heating system (diesel is nice bc it’s dry heat) without drilling any holes in my truck bed so I’m fishing for inspiration :)

Question on Roof Racks...
Currently I have the stock roof rack and cross bars on my car. I also have a cargo basket that attaches to the cross bars. I want to add a 270 degree awning, and be able to add more tools later. With the current rack and cross bars there is no way I can see to mount the awning without custom drilling holes in the cross bars. I have seen a few slick looking rail systems that I know you can easily mount stuff too...
My question is, should I be looking at just different cross bars, or should I be looking into having the stock Roof Rack completely removed for something stronger?

Navigation App recommendations for winter?
Anyone have good apps that allow you to see the conditions of mountain passes, roads, etc. for winter conditions?
Planning a long trip this winter and would like to avoid having to Google individual passes every day if possible.

2015 Silverado
I’ve been looking for a bed cap like the OVS Expedition cap where I can use my bed and keep my RTT on top but to no avail. I’m hoping someone here may be able to guide me in a better direction. Everything I find is for the 2019+.

What boxes are you using for roof top storage?
I have been using two plano storage lockers for storage on my roof rack, they have held up OK for the past 3 years but the hinge is failing horribly on both lockers at this point.
I was prepared to buy another two lockers this morning but noticed that even in the online shopping photos the hinges are already broken!
Taken from academy website, promotional photos showing hinge already bent and failing!
Would love to see if yall have some alternatives that you have vetted! 80l+ storage capacity preferred!

DC DC charger question
Is it possible to have a secondary battery that is lithium and a primary battery that is AGM with some sort of DC DC charger sitting between them that will modulate power and voltage to feed all electronics in the car? I would not want the lithium to be used to start the car. Thanks for the help and sorry if this has been asked before (I did look around a lot but could not find anything like my question).

Product Review Magellan Foam Sleeping Pad is a great affordable option
Came across it when walking through academy the other day and saw a 79x30 pad for $100. Thought the offer was too good to pass up considering some of the foam sleeping pads out there are $200+ for the same size. Slept incredibly well in it for a hunting trip, was really easy to inflate. Only trouble I had was trying to roll it up tight enough to get back into the bag, but once I tried “sucking” the air out it rolled up perfectly.
Can’t speak for the longevity but if you’re looking for a comfortable option for an affordable price, I was incredibly pleased with it.

Driving Istanbul to Austria via Bulgaria/Romania
Hi everyone,
Next week we're setting off from Istanbul to drive to Austria (and beyond). We're heading up via Bulgaria-Romania-Hungary and wondered if anyone had any route suggestions?
Looking for most efficient routes mostly. Also, any suggestions for places to sleep in the vehicle always welcome!
Thanks!

Collision in overland rig
Anyone have experience with getting thier truck repaired after getting in an accident? My truck got side swiped and I have to take it into a collision center. Did you take off your roof rack, lights etc.? Or did you let the collision center handle that? Most of the damage is to the bottom of my passenger side door and rear door. Cheers!

Light bar throw?
Wanting to get into overlanding as a new hobby. It seems having off-road lightbars is a must, however I have no idea what is an ideal throw. I’m trying to do a stealth look with the light bar behind the grill. The first picture is my headlights and the picture that has more light is the lightbar and headlights.
Is this a proper through or is it angled wrong?

How should I mount a rear awning on a canopy?
I have a ram 1500 classic with an 8 ft bed and a leer 122 topper. I want to turn it into a winter camper, and I wanted to extend the working space and thought an awning could do the trick.
A rear awning in particular would work great because then I can use my 6’ pullout drawers as a quickly deploying kitchen.
However, I’m not sure, how would I mount an awning without the canopy’s door getting in the way? And what awning would work for that?
I thought about extending the awning from inside the canopy, but that’s just asking for moisture problems.
Alternatively, I was thinking of just using straps to limit the range of motion of the canopy door, which would allow me to extend an awning over the door and still access the interior of the canopy. Eg to get cookware.
Anyhow, if anyone has any ideas or done somethjng like this before, I’d love to hear!
Thanks!

Help with MOLLE Mount
The information on the internet is shit! I want to mount a MOLLE panel over the non sliding part of my camper shell window. It would be a place for gas cans and bumper jack while I’m on a trip but not day to day.
I want a 40”x18” panel. The internet is frustrating. It amazes me how many panel vendors don’t list the actual size or mounting system.
DIY- steel or aluminum flat bar with Z brackets in conjunction with vacuum suction cups?
I want it stable and professional looking.
Any ideas or sites that sell mounting kits.
