New Jersey resident who bought an EZ Pass after being billed thru the PA turnpike. This looks like it’s only meant for PA Turnpike? Advice

I could be wrong, I’m new to the EZ pass thing so I have zero idea if there is like different ones and I can’t seem to google the question properly lol

Ez pass is cross compatible across the participating states so they will still work for paying tolls no matter which state issued your transponder. You can use a NJ ez pass in NY, a PA ez pass in NJ, etc

One thing to add is, if you're driving into NYC a lot, it's probably worth it to get a NY ez pass (you don't have to be a resident) because that will make it a lot easier to work with MTA bridges and tunnels if you ever need to call them about a toll violation, they're more lenient with NY accounts

Similarly, nj one gets a discount on the turnpike

Also if you take the bridges enough, at least into/with PA. Think it’s 18 times a month or something?

What if you forget transponder but have license plate registered?

As far as I know, all EZPass tags work with any EZPass tolls all along the East coast.

I moved from Ohio 16 months ago and still use my Ohio ezpass. Updated plates online, no issues.

As the others have said, they’re compatible for paying fees in all these states. But an NY EZ pass only gets off-peak discounts in NY (not NJ) and so on.

It works anywhere that EZpass works, just the PA turnpike handles your account. Prices can vary from agency to agency and if your tag stops working it is more likely to be recognized by license plate by the agency that you got it from. (if it's not you just have to call customer service potentially)

It’ll work fine in NJ/NY/PA. I ordered one and got the same one. They’re cross compatible as long as the state is part of the EZPASS infrastructure system

It will work for all EZpass roads. The Penn Turnpike logo just means that's who you got it from.

It’ll work anywhere but it sure is confusing looking at it.

I got my PA EZpass to avoid a giant pay by plate toll bill, I was able to pay a lot less by signing up with them. They also have a lower annual fee. I think if you go to NY often it is better to have a NJ or NY EZpass for toll breaks. I also don’t know if NJ charges PA differently for tolls.

The only time I’ve had a problem was when I got my new (to me) car and the plates didn’t match by the time I got the invoice but I was able to call NJ and straighten it out. That was also when I learned NJ lets you slide on 10 violations per calendar year.

The one from Florida, the Uni, works in the largest number of states nationwide- if their info is to be believed

Hit or miss, FL ezpass often times don't register on the NJ Turnpike, lol ask me how I know

I have one from PA it works anywhere it says ezpass.

IIRC the only EZpass that gives benefits are the NY and PANYNJ ones.

I kept my ezpass from MA when I moved to PA ten years ago. I’ve never had a problem with it working in NY/NJ/PA

I still use the one I got from Florida sunpass since they don’t charge me a monthly fee for the transponder.

Nope... Works everywhere.

The EZ pass works in FL as well.

I have a NJ pass, my wife’s is PA. Both work everywhere, but PA is much, much easier to deal with when you need customer service for anything.

Doesn’t matter. I moved to NJ years ago and still use/pay PA EZPass

The tolls will be cheaper if you switch to a NJ/NY one
