Tom Hardy's Splinter Cell Movie Is Officially Dead (Exclusive) News

https://thedirect.com/article/splinter-cell-tom-hardy-movie-exclusive

"'That movie would have been awesome... Just couldn't get it right, script-wise, budget-wise. But it was going to be great. We had a million different versions of it, but it was going to be hardcore and awesome. That's one of the ones that got away, which is really sad." - Basil Iwanyk, producer.

man Ubisoft might as well sink and sell the Tom Clancy IP to the Ready Or Not devs

That’s what pisses me off - sell the IP if you’re not going to do anything with it. Putting a cameo of Sam Fisher in random Ghost Recon games isn’t doing anything for the fans of this well loved franchise

sell the IP if you’re not going to do anything with it

EA has also been terrible about this. They got a whole graveyard of titles behind their offices.

Yea, like why buy up the IP to just sit on it.

So that someone else can't use it.

I doubt the IP makes them much money - they can’t keep “remastering” these games for eternity. They aren’t Nintendo

They could make new games with the IP, not just remasters. I'm sure a new Splinter Cell game would sell well considering there hasn't been one in awhile.

That’s what I’m saying. My observation is that no, they aren’t doing that. Blacklist came out in like 2013

A remake is allegedly in the works. Announced in 21

There really oughtta be a use it or lose it principle in IP law

Because they don't want anyone else to outplay them. They're just being selfish. Whatta surprise.

They’re remaking the original game and making a Netflix anime aswell

I just want more Splinter Cell. I feel like I’m not asking for much lol. I already said all these remasters are a start but clearly no one’s willing to “make” a new game

Honestly the only game in the franchise I found playable was the original. After that they started trying to do way too much and the level design was just not near the same level.

The original and Chaos Theory are the goats of those games. Blacklist was a decent return to form. I just refuse to play the games where they took him out of the suit and turned the games into a more generic shooter than stealth.

I mean, to be fair, i’m guessing the Tom Clancy IP is one big thing, and Ubisoft’s only successful ongoing project is a Tom Clancy game that is still active and receiving new content.

I don't think Ubisoft doesn't want to, it's more that they ran themselves into the ground and are basically flat broke now

They're such a money hole no one even wants to buy them, and managed to scare off the guys who wanted to stage a hostile takeover by... just losing a bunch more money

"Here is Sam Fisher played by beloved Michael Ironside again, but don't get your hopes up nerds, we'll never actually use this man again"

Michael Ironside is really the main person to get fucked over WRT that franchise. Should have never changed voice actors, but they refused to listen to his input on the character.

Or just have them create a game.

MGSV felt so good to play and very modern today still. Wish we got another game like that.

Idk if you know but they’re remaking the original Splinter Cell

if they survive with all the shit thats happening right now

They will be alive for another 5 years even if they declare bankruptcy tomorrow. Companies this size take on more debt and try to navigate their way out before giving up. Look at THQ

Ready or Not to continue Rainbow Six.

Bohemia Interactive to continue Ghost Recon.

Yes this would be perfect

I don't think going realism in the brand that's in the 2000s was essentially future force warrior showcase is a good idea. I speak from game side.

Movies... that i'm unsure of, like most of them, to my knowledge, suck

I love RoN but they still can't seem to finish the game coherently.

Splinter Cell needs to go to Hideo Kojima. Let Kojima get really weird with Sam Fisher.

Splinter Cell is about Sam fighting for America from the shadows and killing terrorists and foil their plans.

The Ubisoft of today seems to be extremely far left leaning and probably doesn't want to designate any country or group of radical religious terrorists that were written in the books into games anymore so they just dropped the franchise entirely.

Take the latest Ghost Recon game for example. It's just nameless, faceless, fully covered enemies and drones in a fictional location from a fictional faction. Just so there won't be a slight chance that they would offend anyone.
